I didn't enjoy this entry as much as the original. I understand that its primary focus is supposed to be Grendalwald, which is all well and good but it seems to leave little else for the other characters to do. They never really seem to have a reason to be a part of the story. Johnny Depp does well enough as the titular villain but he contradicts himself trying to justify his motives and by the end of the film, it all doesn't make since. I also had a problem with some of the character progression, a lot of which comes outta nowhere and ends up feeling cheap. Either way it can still be an enjoyable romp, if you don't get caught up in the semantics. The effects are still incredible, especially in the opening act, and aside from a few, many of the characters remain loveable and endearing. Shouts out to Jude Law, who does an admirable job as Dumbledore. I would save this one for Red Box unless you're a collector.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) is one of my favorite films. The filmakers (for FBWFT) were able to capture the same Harry Potter magic we know and love and incorporate it into a whole new story full of sinster plots, new settings, wonderful creatures, and an extremely amazing cast. Sadly, the Crimes of Grindlewald did not meet my expectations of a sequel. Creating a setting one year apart from the first film, the filmakers struggled to rekindle the same flame that once fueled the bond between the main characters, as well as strained to piece together all the events that conspired in a fashion that flows and keeps the moviegoer intrigued with the plot. As for the next line of movies to come from this saga, I hope the time is taken to consider what can be done better. I recommend to watch this to build your own opinion.

There is a lot going on in this imaginative film. The plot and characters are still being developed, even though this is the 2nd movie. It's no less interesting, and the story still draws you in, especially if you are the typical J.K .Rowling fan. Non-fans, or those who are simply looking for some magic, an array of new creatures, along with curious activities might also be interested. However, this film, unlike the first of this series, is simply not watchable as a stand alone. Video Quality (3D and Blu-ray: Video is relentlessly dark. Very dark in both 3D and the Blu-ray. And then there are the darker scenes. Good grief. The 3D effects are special in a few places and adds to the overall film most of the time. But, it's all very dark, in case you missed my earlier comments.

The Crimes of Grindelwald - 1st - Lack of Plot

This is the second installment of the "Fantastic Beasts" series. I really liked the 1st installment but this movie just didn't really do the trick for me. There was absolutely nothing to complain about visually - the movie was even more stunning than the first one. The problem this movie had for me was its plot, or rather, its almost non-existing plot. This movie just seemed to serve as background information for the upcoming movies in this series, like a setup for things to come. It introduced many new characters and revealed certain things about already known characters. This movie is definitely not a waste of money and is worth a look for the secrets revealed.

An ok sequel, but lacks the magic of Harry Potter

I like most of the characters in Fantastic Beasts, but even in this sequel it still lacks that special something that would make it feel truly connected to the Harry Potter universe. Depp is good as Grindelwald, but the overall tone just feels drab. If you keep up with the Harry Potter universe, go ahead and buy this movie–the special effects are serviceable and it does look nice in 4K, but that's about all I have to say about it. I barely remember the plot, and that's not a good sign of things to come from this series.

This one was a little too wizardry for my tastes. If you like the Harry Potter movies you'd probably enjoy this one. Seems the first installment of this franchise had a much more coherent plot and more humor. I found this movie hard to follow. If I read the book it might have had been easier to understand what was going on, but I'm not interested in doing that. I did enjoy the 3D though. Effects were decent enough. In the ever shrinking world of Blu Ray 3D if find myself watching anything that is released in 3D.

As seems to be the case with other prequels to established franchises (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings) the stakes just don't seem to be as high when you know where the story is generally headed. It's fun to return to the world of Harry Potter, but overall this is just kind of a little flat..worth a watch, but nothing that will compare to any of the Potter films. Solid picture and audio quality, a decent selection of special features, along with an extended cut of the film that is a digital only exclusive

I would like to say I have mixed feelings on this movie. I understand the fantastic beasts movies are suppose to be their own trilogy or series of movies. This one i felt was very misleading story line wise. I do not wish to spoil anything for people but this movie was ok at best. Hope if they make a next one it will be better story wise and not spend so much time worrying about casting controversies (I felt had no real effect on the film) ,etc and marketing.

For the second installment of the Fantastic Beasts saga, I wish there were a bit more of the mystical monsters than there were. Depp's Grindelwald was creepy in just the right ways but the story being told in this movie is clearly not over with such a cliffhanger of an ending which now has become the standard for Hollywood. Telling bigger stories that run across multiple films so it really is difficult to judge since there is so much more story to tell.

Far more entertaining than the first movie, this still feels like a middle chapter and, seriously, this saga could very well be a miniseries. Of course, JK Rowling would never allow such a thing, yet at the same time she's completely incapable of writing a script that allows this oportunistic saga to flourish and become its own thing, a proper movie. Still indebted to Harry Potter, FB: TCoG never finds its footing and the sad thing is that it probably never will.

The Crimes of Grindelwald is a visually impressive film that unfortunately lacks a very coherent plot. It's crammed with a bunch of characters, motives changing back and forth and often incomprehensible. Time is spent on characters never seen again. This is supposed to be a 6 film series so the film makers may be laying groundwork but these characters should have more substance and motivation. The film is still worth a view and is an excellent use of 3d.

I was so excited to get & watch this, well...u no what they say about sequels?! I'm still perplexed as to *what crimes of Grindelwald* they're talking about. Unless I fell asleep just at that part during both viewings? I have no idea. I did love all the *fantastic beasts* so, that said..I did enjoy it, just didn't see a connection between the Title & the movie. I would recommend it since it is in the fantastic beasts chronology, I think lol.

JK Rowling knows how to write well, no argument from me there. But she needs to take a step back when writing scripts. With Crimes of Grindelwald, working off of entirely original material, she makes character inconsistencies and plot holes that could have been avoided with a good editor. I'm hoping she does better on the next films. Nevertheless it is a good looking film on all technical aspects.

True Harry Potter fans will be interested in the back story on Grindelwald, and the special effects and wand wizardry was fun to watch, but the slow pacing of the story really dragged the movie along to a point that I was drifting off to sleep. Wanted more Dumbledore!! Need to watch a couple more times to appreciate it better. Still would recommend to Potter fans nonetheless.

If this entire situation was what they were setting up from the first movie, then fine. But It's like they were surprised the characters from the first movie were as liked as they were, and they had this other idea, so they jammed the two premises together like a kid smashing hot wheels cars together. It can be fixed in later movies, but it's not really working in this one.

Someone should have fired the editor. The movie can be very nonsensical but there is a story there somewhere. Apparently there are five movies total when all is said and done. So get this if you’re a fan of the world and want to complete the story. The video quality on this in 4k is quite good. As well as the availability of Dolby Vision. The sound is right up there.

As with most sequels, this one, in my opinion, is overshadowed by the 1st one. But expectations are also troublesome and can be blinding, so a rewatch is what I do. And often the second watching is better. So I will be watching it again. I do wish, though, that when characters are killed off......they stay dead. But again, will have to watch again.

The movie was ok. I had high expectations going into it and I felt it didn’t meet them. While I enjoyed seeing additional creatures I was disappointed that I didn’t get to see the showdown between Dumbledore and Grindelwald like the previews had implied might happen. I feel the first movie was better than this one but this movie was still good.

The Crimes of Grindelwald is a decent enough movie, but not as good as the 1st Fantastic Beasts movie. The plot wanders a bit the charm of the mythical creatures from the 1st is lost here. You would need to see the 1st movie in order to understand what's going on here. Unless your a big fan of the HP universe, skip this one.

Very disappointed in the second of the "Fantastic Beast" films. The actors are all top notch it just feels like a filler til the third movie comes around... Blu ray quality is great though. I would recommend only for the fact that you need to see this before the third or you may be lost if you choose to continue in this series.
