    Good Sequel

No movie is ever perfect. Sequels are a gamble; they are either better than the first movie or they are worse. Mind you this a "comic book" movie; so anyone can pick apart the fact that it isn't real life and no one could be like these people; normal people would have died in the first one--so let's be "creative and imaginative" and enjoy the films for their designated purpose--ENTERTAINMENT. To make a long story short-- This is a "family movie"; you want an "adult" movie, go to a store that specializes in that. This was an entertaining movie about a family (dysfunctional they may be) that learned about themselves and how to work together for to save not only themselves, but everyone around them. This isn't the type of movie for "adults" who are looking for the hard core action of blowing things up or cussing. Want that in a movie? There are enough of them out there, go find them, you don't need to turn this franchise into that. If you don't like the material, don't watch it. It is a family movie that adults can enjoy when watching with children or just to unwind from daily stress. Because I like the characters and the storyline, I saw the movie twice in the theaters--once for free, then I went back and PAID to see it again. It isn't as good as the first one, but it isn't as bad as most sequels have been. I would have liked to have seen more of Von Doom's re-emergence and explored that angle a little more in depth; that is the only thing "lacking" in this sequel. The movie does what it is intended to--entertain. As of note, I don't know what the difference in the reason for the rating between first one (PG-13) and this one (PG)--neither one had strong language and equal amounts of violence.

The Silver Surfer has arrived on Blu-ray

The sequel of Fantastic Four, "Rise of the Silver Surfer" may not be the best film adaptation of a Marvel comic, however, it is still an enjoyable ride. I liked the fact the characters never took themselves too seriously. There was an element of humor, which made the film fun and fast paced to watch. When I purchased the blu-ray edition, I wondered how the film presentation would translate on my home theatre system. Well... let me just say that the picture quality was incredible. The colors were vibrant and the fleshtones were dead on. The film had a slight element of grain, which I felt was absolutely necessary to make the presentation real. As for the audio, I must also admit that it gave my home theatre system a great run for it's money. The dialog and surround sound was truly enveloping. I suppose you will also enjoy the film in the standard dvd format. However, if you really want to enjoy this film, the way it was truly meant to be seen, then I would definitely suggest the blu-ray format. If you don't own a blu-ray player, I must recommend the purchase of one, provided that you own a high definition TV as well, and a nice home theatre system with HDMI input and outputs, to enjoy the great benefits of high definition. Just ask one of the knowledgeable Best Buy sales reps. I guarantee that you will definitely notice a huge difference, and I promise, you will not be disappointed...

    Packs a Wallop!

Having very much like the first installment, Fantastic Four, I was extremely eager to see the sequel the day it was launched into theaters. Needless to say I did, and it vastly exceeded my expectations. The trailer for the film played mainly upon the Silver Surfer character, leaving almost little to nothing about Von Doom. And so his part in the film was a big surprise. Having only recently switched to Blu-ray Disc, this was a must own title for my extensive collection, and was one that has since become one of my favorites to watch. The film itself is short enough (running only 92 minutes so about 1 hr. and 25 mins. without credits). I cannot understand why so many people bashed the film the way they did. It presented itself as nothing more than an action popcorn flick and delivered on every level. Fox definitely took this film seriously to treat just about every shot with some sort of special effect and CGI technique available. The crispness of this title on Blu-ray was unbelievable. The Silver Surfer could not have looked more realistic, nor could the visuals of the human torch. The audio is equally as impressive and let me just say my subwoofer went into a frenzy during some sequences. All in all, this was a definite must see, and must own title for me and I was just glad to have Doom come back in his full glory. That was the icing on the cake for an already appealing movie.

    Good action, great FX

The storyline was a very good sequel, better than most, and the return of Dr. Doom was predictable. The name of the title character - Silver Surfer - is lame but fits (this is a comic book). The story premise - an intergalactic world-eating monster - is fantastic and the speed with which it moves between solar systems and galaxies is way beyond our present knowledge of the speed of light. Although there is one scene in which faster than light tachyons are used to defeat Dr. Doom and "knock" him off the Surfer's board. Overall, the movie strains the limits of physics and astronomy but it makes for a good story.

Fantastic four 2 was better in every way than the first.Even though it was rated PG and it only runs 1 hour and 32 minutes. Its still a great movie for the family and especially comic book fans. The special effects were spectacular and the new characters are great, even the Silver Surfer! The 2 disc set is also a good time with some deleted scenes and alot of featuretts about how they made the film.OWN THIS DVD!!

    Silver Surfer Slips

I was eagerly waiting to see this movie, as I am a long time fan of the Silver Surfer. I was rather disappointed. The action and special effects were good, but a lot was left to be desired. The movie starts with Mr. Fantastic - Reed Richards and The Invisible Girl – Sue Storm - planning their wedding. Their plans had been interrupted 4 times already, and Sue was getting perturbed. Reed was already working on a secret project when an army general came to see him to ask for help. It seems an Unidentified Flying Object was zipping around the earth and wherever it appeared, climate changes occurred with temperatures and snow falling. Also, large craters are appearing, one right in the middle of the Thames river by London Bridge. The movie does not say how deep the craters are, but the Thames river is drained dry. Against Sue’s wishes, Reed agrees to help, but the wedding is still on. Right in the middle of the outdoor ceremony, held on a New York rooftop, the UFO appears. A paparazzi helicopter has it’s instruments frozen and crashes onto the rooftop. All four members of the fantastic team are able to contain the wreckage and prevent any deaths. Johnny Storm, The Human Torch flies after the UFO to see what it is and why it is. As he chases it, he sees a humanoid, encased in silver, flying through the air on a surfboard. When he reports this to the rest of the team and to the army general, they are almost in disbelief. Johnny insists it was indeed a surfboard. The army general wonders out loud what this “Silver Surfer” is up to. Johnny says that it appears that the Surfer is getting his power from the board and it is agreed they must try to get him off the board. The team’s nemesis from the last movie, Victor von Doom aka, Dr. Doom is revived in his home country of Latveria and chases after the Surfer himself. His encounter with the Surfer leaves him powerless, his metal-flesh returning to normal and his magnetic powers gone. He arrives in New York and offers his help, but nobody really trusts him. Reed devises a tachyon pulse emitter and the next time they get close to the Surfer, they are able to separate the Surfer from the board. The Surfer is powerless without his board and the army takes both into custody. The Fantastic Four are escorted into a room and locked in. Sue, turning invisible, escapes after Johnny gets a guard to open the door for a minute. Sue finds the Surfer, who is restrained and begins to ask him questions. She asks him his name, but he refuses to answer. She asks him why he is on Earth and finally the Surfer says that he is but a herald for Galactus, who is enroute to the Earth to destroy it. The Surfer explains that Galactus is merely consuming the planet for energy. Sue pleads mercy for the Earth, but the Surfer is unmoved. But when Sue asks him if he knows what it is like to be in love, the Surfer answers gently, “Yes.” Sue returns to the rest of the team and they devise a way to smuggle the Surfer out of custody. Reed uses a remote control device, which activates the secret project he has been working on – a private jet for the team to use on their missions. It arrives and the team and the Surfer escape. When they are in the plane, the Surfer turns to Sue and says, “Norrin Radd. That is my name.” The military is in pursuit and they are shot down over China and Sue is badly wounded. As Reed holds her, she dies. The Surfer listens to the last love words spoken by the couple and sees Reed’s tears of grief. He uses his Cosmic Power to revive Sue and changes his mind about letting Galactus destroy the earth. He flies up to the cloud formation that is concealing Galactus and ---- somehow stops Galactus. The movie does not show or say how. The movie ends with the wedding of Sue and Reed. Now I will tell you why I am disappointed with this movie. As you may have guessed, --- where was the confrontation between Galactus and The Surfer? How did the Surfer stop Galactus? All they did was have the cloud formation dissipate!

If your a fan of the Silver Surfer, you won't be let down. He looks awesome in the film and the story never really drags. The film is only an hour and a half, but it's a fantastic hour and a half (no pun intended). I was a bit dissapointed that I wasn't able to see Galactus. Otherwise a must see.

    Excellent Popcorn Movie!

The FF series is a demonstration of how to make popcorn movies - movies you can watch, enjoy and then forget immediately after. Not on par with the first two X-Men or the Jack Nicholson or Christian Bale Batman movies as big-screen realizations of comic books, "Silver Surfer" still manages to bring to the screen the iconic character, well-voiced by Lawrence Fishburne, in a solumn but respectable fashion. This series, especially this edition, is heavy on the laughs, but the cast takes it seriously enough (except for Mr. Fantastic's take on Happy Feet) to make it work. Chris Evans as Johnny Storm, the never-take-anything-serious-but-the-pursuit-of-self-gratification Human Torch, is superb - you want to slug him at the same time as you crack up at his behaviour. Good family fun!

The second movie was a huge upgrade from the first one. The plot was better and kept you more entertained. The movie helps marvel fans understand better the complex character of the silver surfer. A good movie for super hero fans to have in their collection.

Good campy movie that explains how the group got their powers. Not a ton of violence so that would not be innappropriate for kids. Not a real twister in the plot so might be too light for some adults. Overall I enjoyed the movie and found it entertaining.

AND THE PLOT AND THE EFFECTS are great as well you just cant go wrong with this movie unless you don't like super hero type movies that are awesome.and fun! ...FLAME ON !!!!!

The special effects were spectacular. The movie would have been a lot better if we didn't have to go through the Invisible Woman moaning about quality time with Mr. Fantastic. Other than that stuff it was a great movie.

    Be Careful Uninformed Consumers

The studios are starting the bait and switch under the Blu-ray banner.. Bought this movie to update my vidoe collection to Blu-ray. Realized after the fact that the video is not 1080p HD. Specs says AVC @ 27MBPS. Video doesn't look any different than my standard DVD copy version . Studios are starting to downgrade Blu-ray quality without informing the consumer. Make sure if you are buying Blu-ray movies from 20th Century Fox to read the specs to make sure you're getting full 1080p since they seem to be the only studio downgrading at this point or just check them all to be sure.

The first Fantastic Four had the potential to be a great film, but that potential was never seen. With it's lack of action and goofy attempts at funny dialogue, it bombed. The second installment defnitely improves upon those two points where the first failed, but this was still not enough to make a good movie. There is more action and the funny parts are somewhat funnier, but the character depth, interesting plot, and action a comic book movie should have are still missing. Silver Surfer is not a bad movie, it simply lacks the things to make it a good movie.

This is a really good movie. Jessica could have done a much better job of acting though and the movie tended to throw in one too many jokes, but still didn't take away from the thrill ride.
