Up front, I apologize for having so much to say about this game. I got this game because I love the musou spin off games. Hyrule Warriors, Fire Emblem Warriors, and I can not wait for Persona 5 S. The story in this game, if you’re not a fan of the anime, is just terrible. The presentation is nice which is what saves it. The static “dating sim” characters at least move their mouth and it is fully voiced in Japanese. But any time the main character speaks or just there are story elements to go over in narrative it opens up to just a wall of unvoiced text. Very boring and makes me feel like I’m playing a 3DS game at best.
Now the battles, oh my the battles! If you’ve played the other titles I mentioned they are slowed down by the fact that traveling across the map takes time and breaks up pace. Especially when things flank you and you have to back track and lose ground. This is less in Fire Emblem because you can better order your troops around. But in this game, you are whit knuckled running top speed jumping from area to area instantly in battle almost constantly. Even backtracking is fun as you chase enemies down. The maps are broken up into sections that allow you to zip around the battlefield very quickly.
The special moves are handled differently too as you can select the moves you want from a list that you acquire through playing and defeating enemies. And rather than putting together a combo or building up a meter through combat or collecting items, the moves are just tied to a cool down. And when you do build up the special meter everything goes hyperactive and you can essentially spam your special moves back to back until it runs out. It makes things more simple and I found it easier to use the right move in the heat of battle. Your characters in general are very customizable.
The game also encourages you to for the most part completely ignore the base level grunts. Go for the leaders and it instantly kills everything in the area. I know for the most part the other games listed do that also. But you previously conquered areas will never be over run by grunts. There will always be a big bad leading them if that happens. No beating up grunts until their leader shows up. The leader is there and very surrounded. It makes for some insane amounts of chaos!
Over all when I was done with a battle in this game I felt out of breath with my hands literally sweating like I had been constantly sprinting versus other games I mentioned where they seemed like a test of endurance like a marathon.
If you can get past the story you will find a very fun game here with tons of very individualized characters and move types that will keep you busy for hours. But because of the story being so... in enjoyable I would suggest watching for a sale unless you are really jonesing for good big battle fight.

This was a great follow up to the first entry. The gameplay has been tightened, but the visual novel element is lacking.

Extella Link brings everything you love from the first, and greatly enhances it. It runs and looks beautiful on the Switch. There is now branching paths in campaign, for multiple playthroughs. Skills were added, which was a lovely addition that the first felt lacking. Noble Phantasms can be used MULTIPLE times in the same mission now. Instead of like Extella 1, Link you defeat enemies to gather blue and golden orbs. The blue charges up Moon Crux mode, and the gold charges Noble Phantasms. Each Servant has an outfit to unlock by bonding with them, and there is also some nice but cheap outfits to buy with DLC. The biggest surprise of all is that the AI has been incredibly revamped. The AI allies are actually useful, and the enemies are more fierce. You can do duo or even trio combos now with other nearby Servants as well. There is a multiplayer mode, but be aware it is only one game mode. However, it feels like more of a bonus to the game, than a core feature. It's fun, but just know that's all there is for multiplayer, no co-op. However, the game is still worth the purchase for the single player alone. There is a lot of content in this game, and it is so much more fun than the original. If you enjoyed the original, it is worth it to upgrade.

I'm not big on either, but it went on super sale and I bought 3 copies, resold 2 and made my money back. I played it for about 2 hours and didn't see myself playing it again after that. Plays a lot like Hyrule Warriors, but I know who those characters are. Good visuals, awesome animations, but weird anime people I don't know and couldn't connect with.

This is a great sequel that I am glad they brought to the Switch as well. My favorite parts are the hub where you can talk to all your servants and the online mode where you can use any servant in the game without unlocking them yet.

First off, I’m Fate fan. This game is awesome if you know something about the franchise. However, it can really use some more plot and game mode. Character are excellent though.

While it doesn't fix the over simplistic gameplay, it does fix a lot of the issues the first game had, but it still only for those who played the first game and fate\extra

If you played fate extella, this is pretty much a robust version with a different story and more characters.
If your new to this, this is essentially a musuo/warriors game where the main thing your doing is hacking and slashing dozens of mindless drones that serves are meter building and progression, with some bosses thrown in that requires patter memory.
Whats changed is that you have more options on leveling your partners, and some tweaks on the combat mechanics.
For a fate musuo game its really good

Fun Dynasty/Hyrule Warriors-Style Game

I don't know anything about the Fate franchise, but I impulse bought it based on a good Nintendo Life review. It's the same type of game as Dynasty Warriors/Hyrule Warriors, which is a satisfying action game that's equal parts mindless and high-octane.
As a FYI, while the text is in English, there's no English voice acting - all spoken dialogue is in the original Japanese.
