I wasn't sure if I wanted to see this movie because I had read the Trilogy and could not imagine how it would be possible to make the story into a movie without it being rated "X". My other thought was how they would fit the Trilogy beginning to end in a 1 1/2 to 2 hour movie. Well, as it turns out, the movie ended at a point where I can only assume will result in the making of Part II. The nudity was mild and the subject matter was assumed, not actually showing what was clearly defined in the books. As for the actors themselves, I think the character of Christian Grey needed a stronger, more chiseled, personality and look, the Pierce Brosnan of 007 look. Dakota Johnson was okay, maybe not as beautiful as the book portrayed, but she did look like an innocent before Mr. Grey got his hands on her ;-) The movie ends leaving you wondering what happens next. Not a bad movie but it is missing one thing...Excitement.

Great Movie and followed the book very well. The blueray version is crystal clear and seemed even better than the theater version.

I read all three of the Fifty Shades books and was worried about how it would be translated to film, considering the amount of risque' material that is in the book. I was also concerned about the choice of actors to to play the main characters, as I had seen both of the actors in other shows. I felt that the actors did a great job at bringing the book characters to life and I thought that the movie was able to get the idea of the content of the story across in a tasteful manner. I paid a few extra bucks to purchase the Blu-ray version of the movie so that I would have the alternate ending, and I am glad that I did. I saw the DVD version with the theatrical ending and was happier with the extra few minutes of film at the end of the Blu-ray that left the ending on a different note.

50 SHADES OF GREY "comes bursting" onto the big screen. Get it? Coming and bursting? You don't? Alright, alright, I'll stick to my day job then. 50 SHADES shows us what we already knew about billionaire, young, rich dudes. That they're secret closet pervs with a penchant for perverse and kinky stuff. We all know that these guys have a lot of money AND if they're not spending it on weird, sado masochistic playrooms, then what are they spending it on?
Jamie Dornan plays the above mentioned pervy billionaire Christian Grey, who is a sado masochist because of a past incident. It's "who he is" he says. I won't reveal what it is so you can see for yourselves. One rainy and gloomy day he gets interviewed by the shy Anastasia Steele played by Melanie Griffith's daughter (who almost got into a mom and daughter fight at the Oscars red carpet) Dakota Johnson. She coyly asks questions from her notepad only to mumble and fumble and be "intimidated" by Mr. Grey. He notices her shy self and wants to get to know her more, at this point he's probably saying to himself that he wants to get to know her by slipping off her pants. So he gives her his business card and thus begins the beginning of their kinky relationship. I found it intriguing that he has her sign a contract that explains thoroughly what is and isn't allowed to be done sexually. Clearly, he's done this before. Will Anastasia accept the contract?
I haven't read the books but my girlfriend has and while we BOTH agree that the book is MUCH racier and perverted than the movie itself, the film does contain some steamy scenes filled with chemistry between both leads, some critics have been saying that their chemistry is mundane and inexplicably missing. Not true at all. I felt their connection and truly felt that Anastasia loves Christian. The pacing of the film went along smoothly even for an almost two hour movie, I was sucked in by all the naughty hijinks that ensued and didn't even notice I had sat in those very comfy theater seats for almost two hours. Compared to other racy films like BASIC INSTINCT, BOUND or the smutty cult classic SHOWGIRLS to name a few, 50 SHADES is much, much tamer. But alas, if SHADES would have followed exactly what happens im the book then the film would have been slapped with an NC-17 rating, thus stopping the film from making all the money that it's made so far. But all in all, I liked the film, the chemistry, the acting and the narrative structure of the film. Its safe to say that after the last shot of the film, I was left wanting more. Not in that way though, pervs.

I honestly don't see what the big deal was about this being "unrated". Maybe I'm a little jaded but the additional material was barely worth the ink it took to print the "unrated" label.
The movie itself is something that you have to decide on yourself. It seems to have stirred up quite a furor amongst those for whom a nipple might seem racy. It was interesting and well done but I'm not sure it was "really" extreme. But then, how many people remember what was supposed to happen after it was discovered that the abbey was showing "a grail shaped signal"?
Catch it on some sort of pay-per-view unless you just have to have it.

If you have already seen Sam Taylor-Johnson's blockbuster Fifty Shades of Grey and it happens to be one of your favorite films this year, then you will be very pleased with Universal's Blu-ray release. The technical presentation is excellent and the film looks terrific in high-definition. More importantly, in addition to the Theatrical Version, Universal have included a slightly longer Unrated Version of the film. The film is also complimented by an outstanding soundtrack featuring top tracks by The Weekend ("Earned It"), The Vaults ("One Last Night"), Skylar Grey ("I Know You"), and Annie Lennox ("I Put A Spell On You"), amongst others. The bulk of it is scripted to appeal to viewers who have a soft spot for romantic tearjerkers.the film is beautiful to look at too. the acting wavers at times , but still an awesome movie....also, check out the 80's film 9 1/2 weeks with kim basinger for more like this!
