Its great fun the first quick play. Fun to put in occasionally, but not a game I go back to very often

Me and my 7 year old play this quite a bit. We were both able to learn the different fighting moves quickly, and the game is pretty good at picking up your motions. You can work up a sweat on this game.

It was like playing a boxing game at an arcade, yet for console, and with unlockables. It's fun with the added benefit of having to move your body like a boxer using the Xbox One Kinect.

As far as a quick game to have a little fun this fits the bill. It's good for a moderate workout.

It's a pretty fun party game and good for a quick exercise. The arcade story mode could be deeper and the opponents could be more challenging.

The kindest has improved a lot from the previous version, but not enough to get actual real time responses for games such as this. The game is very glitchy and regardless how well you perform actions, the game is always delayed.

THIS GAME IS AWESOME!!! Fighting is definitely real time. The only issue is that cinematic re-enactments stop the real time fighting, which is actually a FEATURE, imho, because this game is incredibly intense. After a few matches, you will need to take a break, even with the mini-breaks in game. After several matches, you will wake up very sore all over the next day. Only non-intuitive issue is that I was pushing my hand from my elbow in order to select fighters, fight scenes, etc.... but we discovered that the correct way is to hold your hand still and then lean in with your ankles, or possibly step forward. There should be a training video that pops up before you're even allowed to select a fighter. Oh well...
This game is the bomb! But I think that Just Dance is slightly better. They're both 5 stars, but Just Dance is just more fun. Doesn't take anything away from Fighter Within, because they're completely different. Both require you to get off your butt and become in tune with your body instead of a couch. Fighter Within's method of selecting is actually better with leaning in, because it's instantaneous and doesn't cause you to make an accidental selection. Just Dance's selection is timed, so you have to hover over the song or whatever, and then you must wait a certain number of seconds. Fighter Within is definitely better in this regard. But the this really is the future of gaming. I've got a head start and will be having fun while using my whole body to game. Not even the Wii can compare to how accurate the new Kinect is. Watch this video to see why.. http://video.wired.com/watch/game-life-new-xbox-one-kinect-exclusive-wired-video

Have the critics even played this game?

After reading a number of bad reviews on this game I initially passed on it. Amazon recently sold this game for $25 so I thought I would take a chance and pick up a copy. After further review, this game is fun and much better than expected. I played all of the first generation kinect games and most of them were bad. This game is very responsive and easy enough to understand. Certain arm and leg gestures perform combinations such as dodging and counter punching or throwing your opponent.
Here's the problem as I see it. Just like the Xbox One's interface, you have to be patient and work with this new technology. Critics claim the Xbox One's menu system doesn't work or is unresponsive but that's not true. If you learn the commands and issue them correctly the Xbox One works quite well. This game is similar. You have to slow down and perform the fighting moves/combinations correctly and everything works. You can't just throw your arms around and get frustrated because you think Kinect isn't working. Also, the combination attacks are actually cut scenes. So you have to wait until the cut scene is over before you can expect Kinect to pick up your moves. I truly believe that's most of the critic's problem with the game. They are performing moves such as a kick during a cut scene and thinking it's not working. Do the kick after the scene and you'll find everything works. For example, using both arms if you push towards the Kinect it sends a command to pick up and throw your opponent. This starts the cut scene I'm talking about and you'll be tempted to want to kick your opponent while he's on the ground. But the cut scene doesn't end until you opponent stands back up. So if you start kicking while he's on the ground, your doing the kick motion during the cut scene and it might give you the impression it's not working. The cut scenes are seamless which is why it appears to be a problem with the game. After you figure this out, you'll wait until the scene is over and resume fighting. That's when you'll see how much fun this game can be.
Try it out...especially if you can pick up a copy for $25.
