The sword is a bit jarring but a classic must-have for any OG FF fans.

Final Fantasy goes pure Action Game

As a longtime fan of the Final Fantasy series, I have mixed feelings about the new title. It continues the trend of the last few games, moving away from the RPG style and toward the Action Game style. There are virtually no significant RPG elements in this game- it plays more like Devil May Cry or God of War, which will be good news to people who don't like spending time in submenus or balancing their party with various skills. The story is much more mature than most previous Final Fantasy games; it borrows a lot from Game of Thrones and The Witcher, but retains the White Knight protagonist trope of past games, so it's a bit more cheery. The visuals in this game are very impressive, although the combat can seem chaotic to onlookers since it moves very fast. The boss fights are probably the best of any Final Fantasy game to date, and were the thing that roped me in after spending 3 of the first 5 hours of the game watching cutscenes. It is very dialogue heavy, and the weakest part is the sidequests which are repetitive and tedious and most of the time do not yeild significant rewards. The game does distinguish between important and unimportant side quests with differentiated icons, however, so it is possible to skip a lot of the filler without missing out on important upgrades or story content. My second gripe is that there isn't much in the way of equipment customization throughout most of the game- you simply switch to the most powerful equipment available and move on. Still, to the casual gamer that doesn't love overcomplicated RPGs, this will be a welcome development.

Great game! I love it! I'm not a fan of turn-based RPGs but when I saw this one was action I had to get it. Love it!

Pre-ordering Final Fantasy XVI was a decision I'm delighted with, especially because of the fantastic bonus content. The exclusive in-game items added a special touch to my gaming experience, enriching the already immersive world of Final Fantasy. The bonus content, which includes unique gear and early access to certain features, not only enhanced my gameplay but also made me feel like a valued player. It's clear that a lot of thought went into these bonuses, making the anticipation for the game even more worthwhile. For any Final Fantasy fan, this pre-order bonus is a treat that shouldn't be missed, adding an extra layer of excitement and exclusivity to the whole experience.

Great Game, Difficult for Preorder Extras

This game has been unbelievably enjoyable. The extras that came with the Best Buy preorder are fantastic as well. It was a bit tricky to get them when I went in as managers were randomly giving differing information about getting the extra Steel Book. I just kept asking questions about how exactly I would have known that I would or would not be getting a steel book. Eventually the manager just gave me one because they couldn't actually explain why my order said that it came with the exclusive steel book but wasn't a line item. This seems to be a common occurrance with preorder extras at BB.

I have to admit, i had my doubts before i played the demo, but i ended up liking it so much i had to get the full game. Just because the gameplay is different than the rest o of its namesakes, don't be fooled. This is final fantasy through and through. I haven't lived a final fantasy story this much since 6. I loved the character development and world building. This actually felt like a fully realized and lived in world too. me. And Clive was such a great character to be. And let's not forget Torgal who really is the bestest boy. The only drawback keeping this game from perfect score status is the sidequest structure. With all that this game doesdo right, i wish the side quests felt less like total busy work, but the rewards were worth it with more character interaction and world building.

Its a different type of Final fantasy. I did like it a lot but some people have issues with the new changes and the long story. I recommend this game. not only is a good Final fantasy but it is a really good Game as it is.

Not Your Usual Final Fantasy Game

I'd give the story a 5/5, but I'd give the gameplay a 3/5 so overall it gets 4/5 stars. This has been my favorite final fantasy story since 7. I find the battles to be kinda boring, mashing the attack button with an occasional dodge and Eikon ability thrown in there. The battles aren't very hard either. The cinematics during the battles are awesome though. The Eikon battles are pretty epic. The graphics are great. The characters are very memorable. Clive has become my favorite main character from a final fantasy game. Overall, it's a great game and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes games with a good story. It's definitely not your usual Final Fantasy game but anyone who likes Final Fantasy games will enjoy this game.

There have been a lot of banger games this year, but this one takes the cake. The combat, the story, the visuals, the voice acting, and the performance are all master class. The side quests have pacing issues at times, but it does not detract from the overall enjoyment. After 60 hours through one playthrough i can say i will be playing through NG+ AT LEAST two more times. Also, this is one of the only games I've paid $70+ for and did not regret my choice.

A great FF entry despite the drawbacks

An excellent entry in the FF franchise. FFXVI focuses on more actiony combat and flashy cinematics (seriously they look amazing on the PS5) at the cost of more engaging moments in between all the cutscenes and fights. If you like DMC combat, this might appeal to you more but don't expect it to be as customizable or frentic. Likewise, if you love turn based RPGs, this one has battles that seem to drag on just a little bit too long so that will feel familiar, but the lack of customization in stats will be a turn off.

As the title suggests, the game is extremely polished with amazing voice acting, beautiful graphics and epic story elements that are hampered down with slightly shallow gameplay on first playthrough and some pacing issues a third of the way through the game. Some really extreme highs with some unfortunate lows, but never enough to stop me from enjoying the game. New Game + feels like what it should have been from the start. I definitely enjoyed the experience and still recommend a play 100%.

I was initially disappointed in the pre-ordered sword, for aesthetic reasons, but everyone has different tastes. It served to give a little boost to your main character during early stages of the game but is soon very much replaceable. The cait sith charm on the other hand serves a better purpose and is able to be utilized to well into near halfway through the game to ensure you're always flushed with Gil. Worth the pre-order.
