Enjoyed the game a lot, loved the story as it progressed. You get really attached to the characters and they're development. I'd recommend especially if you're a fan of the final fantasy series

FFXVI starts strong with a first half full of great characters, an interesting narrative, fantastic combat, and tons of visual spectacle. As it continues past that mark though, the game begins to lose a lot of steam. By the end, it's a worthwhile experience but suffers greatly from repetition and pacing issues. Still, it's overall very solid.

Long time Final fantasy fan here, this one has earned a spot on my top 2 or 3, perhaps even 1, though I’m inclined to let IX keep that place. I’m happy the direction SE took in making this an action rpg. I’ve long wanted them to. The combat it FF7R and this one here are an absolute thrill. But the biggest thing here, and I think what’s at the heart of every final fantasy is a focus on story. A story that will tug at your heart, a story that makes you want to dive head first into its world and lore, and that is no exception here. Here we see final fantasy storytelling at its finest, with a cast full of loveable characters full of depth and an OST, and familiar “feels” that give you that FF nostalgia rush. It easily earns a spot on my all time favorite games in any franchise. In a time where I’m hesitant to buy new games at full price, this one was well worth the money.
Hint: pay real close attention to the last few side quests given before the end of the game and think about them when the credits roll.

I am a big Final Fantasy series fanatic. When XVI was announced, I couldn't wait for it to release. I followed every bit of news that was surrounding this game.
That all said, I didn't love the game as much as I had expected.
First off, I loved the story. It was incredibly good and is what motivated me to finish the game overall.
But, it was the presentation of the game that bothered me. the towns and kingdoms were lackluster with long periods of nothing to do as I wandered around to the next objective. And it was during these treks that the graphics took a hit. It was if Square dialed back the presentation for towns and their NPCs and went full throttle for the main characters and main areas where the graphics shine. When you compare the presentation to that of Horizon Forbidden West where that game looks gorgeous no matter what you're doing, XVI falls behind.
Again, I didn't hate the game. The story is worth the price of admission alone.

This game is phenomenal. Great gameplay, characters, and boss fights. If you love epic boss fights with huge scale, this is a must play. The story is also really interesting and engaging. Most of the side quests are mundane but they pick up towards the end.

Great game. I like the fact that they have a one player party. It’s a change from previous Final Fantasy and easier for gameplay to me when you have four or five party members in an active play combat. It seems too hard to keep up. Love the story so far it’s more of an action game.

A departure from past FF gameplay and similar to DMC series, but its a ton of fun with a gripping story and great cinematics. Ots not perfect and has some pacing issues in spots, but the great parts more thab make up for it. Highly recommend even if it doesnt get GOTY.

I have been a huge Final Fantasy fan since FF3 for the SNES. I pre-ordered FFVII in the 90s and got the t-shirt. Over the years there have been hits and misses. When the first trailer for 16 dropped I has apprehensively hopeful. When the demo dropped I decided I was going to get it but would wait. Then my wife surprised me with it as a Father's Day present. This game is gorgeous. I love the new combat style. I can make it easy if I want (no thanks). It is decently difficult without being too souls like. The graphics and sound are superbly crafted. The story is really good, I actually feel connection with the characters. It is far more mature than other entries in the franchise, but lets face it, most of the die hard fans are much more mature than they were when Final Fantasy 3 first released in the US. This game is a great entry for veteran Final Fantasy fans. Would highly recommend!

I love this game. I don't usually play the Final Fantasy games because there is so much lore that I just feel lost but this one is probably the most accessible of any of the games to new comers. Great story, action and graphics. An excellent RPG. Pick it up.

This is a great game. The story is great so far and I'm roughly 50% through the main campaign.
Combat is fairly fluid once you start unlocking eikons to expand things.
The large battles can be highly cinematic. While you do control Clive for a large portion of the fight, as you get near the end, it goes into a simple QTE style of battle.
As someone who intensely dislikes QTEs, these have never felt oppressive as some games in the past have.
Rather it's a simple color flash and instructions on screen. Either tapping Square to push back against something, a single Square tap in order to launch a heavy attack on your opponent, or R1 to dodge an attack they are launching.
The Limit Break is super nice, and honestly wish they expanded more on it, to allow an LB with all Eikons, not just Ifrit.
This is very much a Final Fantasy game and story, even if it's an action based title.

Let me tell you, this game is FUN. You know how video games are supposed to ge fun? This game is that. It’s legit a very fun game to play. There’s no nonsense. You get some sweet weapons and gear, you pal around with great characters, and experience a pretty magical story, all while pulling off some real slick as the other side of the spoon fighting moves. You got a cool weapon, slicing and dicing. You got oodles of magic powers. You can string ‘em all together and make the most lit attack combos. We are talking about a LOT of fun here! If you like games that are fun, you’re probably going to have an enjoyable time. No transgender characters though so like a 5/10.

FFXVI stands tall as an absolute triumph within the franchise, delivering a narrative that captivates and resonates on an unparalleled level. The gameplay, driven by exhilarating action, grips you with its unrivaled addictiveness. The breathtaking clashes against the formidable Eikon bosses offer both delightful enjoyment and formidable challenges. Clive, the enigmatic protagonist, claims the title of my personal favorite character in any Final Fantasy installment. What truly sets this game apart is the complete package of an intricately woven story, boasting a well-crafted beginning, a captivating middle, and a satisfying end. In an era where the gaming industry often fractures experiences with DLC, I am immensely grateful for this cohesive journey. It's undeniable: this game is an invaluable investment, worth every penny.

The Demo Convinced Me To Get This Game And A PS5

This game convinced me to get a PS5.
Within 5 minutes, the story is much better than Final Fantasy XV. It was clearly developed by the same people who did Final Fantasy XIV and a some of the gameplay elements from XIV did transfer to this game. Although that prologue...oof, they really earned that M rating. Let's just say they got a bit of inspiration from the Red Wedding in Game of Thrones.
I was a bit skeptical at first because of the DMC-style of gameplay, but it's fine for me. Although, don't be surprised of your thumb starts cramping after battling for 30-minutes and mashing the square button to attack. If you liked playing any of the DMC games, this will be right up your alley.
I'm a long-time fan of this series, and I can say this could be one of the best main series FFs since XII.

Given this is a Final Fantasy main entry it is going to be held to a higher standard, that being said, it is a good game with very high production value that shows in the presentation but the game is very much "on rails" which leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to freedom to explore and customizing your experience. FF 16 is a game that very much holds your hand and leads you where it wants you to go.
The combat is flashy but lacks deep customization, very minimal, linear and boring loot, equipment and skill/stat customization
The story is pretty good but lacks the array of memorable party members that older FF games had (20+ years ago) and it is a very linear playthrough with uninspiring side quests although some of the rewards for completing them are significant.
I feel like I want to give this game 3 stars because it is not what I want or expect from a FF game, but it is still a good game if you take it for what it is. Which is a story driven "on rails" game that is all about presentation with gameplay and character customization as an after thought.

Final Fantasy XVI follows the gut wrenching story of Clive Rosfield, a prince born with the ability to use magic. Sworn in as a knight to protect his younger brother, Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix.
While the story telling in Final Fantasy XVI is both heartbreaking and beautiful, the combat takes a page from Final Fantasy XV's book and ditches the tride and true turn based style for a real time combat system. While solid and firm, the control options take some time to get used to. But with many controller layout options and some customizing, you'll be able to find the right fit for you.
With a captivating story and a cast of well written characters, Final Fantasy XVI is a great addition to the main stay series from Square Enix and is a fantastic journey from beginning to end.

Great music, fun battles, and a interesting story. Definitly feels like the FF14 team got to make a bid budget single player game. Gameplay feels like a mix of the FF7Remake and Devil May Cry action gameplay.

Not an RPG, but actually a linear action/adventure game with side-quests. More of what I look for in a video game. If you're after traditional role-playing, this game might not be for you. But if you're looking for something straight-forward and/or action heavy, this is the game for you! Fun gameplay, interesting characters, engaging story, and well executed world building makes this game one of the best of the year. Does feel a bit "video gamey" sometimes with stale and repeated dialogue from NPCs and sometimes taking you out of the action to deliver the final blow on a boss fight with a cinematic cutscene. Still, small issues aside, this is a great and fun game that I'll likely come back to years down the road.
