I purchased this item to find that the outer shell is plastic. I am assuming that it was damaged in shipping because the box was partially opened and the safe was scratched and dented all over. I returned it and ordered it again. The second time I ordered it, it arrived opened/unlocked. This didn't happen with the first order. I called the manufacturer and they advised that all of their safes arrive locked so the customer can follow the instructions to unlock it. Also the safe was leaking a cement/sand like material. This safe was also dented. I returned it as well. It should be a good safe but it needs to be purchased in store so it will not arrive damaged. Also, I didn't purchase a returned/used product so the second safe should not have been sent to me in that state to begin with.

This is my first safe to buy, so I have no way of comparing it to any others, but here are a few remarks: Pros: - looks very solid, heavy and robust, - big enough on the inside to store larger items, Cons: - extremely complicated number & moves combination to open the safe, there is absolutely no way to remember it - hence you need to figure out a way to securely note it down and store it somewhere safe, - smells bad (maybe only temporary...)

The safe is both fireproof and waterproof as well as a deterrent to theft. It is well made and has a lifetime guarantee.

The safe was dented right out of the box. Later, when dialing, it would open up even if you miss the exact number (within 1 # either left or right and you could feel you were in the correct spot) which would be scary if someone tried to figure it out. Didn't bring it back because of hassle. Not real worried so just deal with it.

This is a great safe for home use. It has a shelf and holds a lot.
