    An amazing movie and Blu-ray!

More a story of Neil Armstrong than of the Apollo 11 mission itself, First Man is an amazing experience with great performances, cinematography, sound design, and a score that will stay with you for a long time. The Blu-ray A/V is fantastic. The IMAX moon landing sequence is especially impressive. There is a fair amount of bonus features as well, including an informative audio commentary. An additional featurette is available from some providers when you redeem the digital copy. My highest recommendation!

First man follows Neal Armstrong's life from his time as a test pilot through the moon landing. The story shows a lot of his character development / family life / interaction with other astronauts and doesn't just focus on the space program itself. I enjoyed the mix of character development and NASA content. The 4K set shows great picture and sound quality, especially during the moon landing itself. The IMAX ratio is preserved for the lunar sequence, which was very nice to see and looks great!

First Man - First Rate Film

First Man basically isn't just your usual bio-pic of Neil Armstrong (the first man to step foot on the moon nearly fifty years ago), but it's rather about what he and his wife went through leading up to the point. Neil comes across as uncaring, almost robot like which is my only fault with this film. That being said, technically it's a fantastic film. A good companion picture to see before watching First Man would be The Right Stuff which covers the ground prior to what First Man covers.

First Man was a pretty good movie overall. I enjoyed how they took a deeper look into Neil Armstrong then anyone did before them. The visuals were what stood out the most for me. It was really like you were on the moon with them. One thing I would keep in mind would be if you get motion, you might not like this movie. There are portions of this film that are very shaky.

An adequate story of Astronaut Neil Armstrong

It's a good story of the life of the First Man on the Moon, which has points of Neil's life I was not aware of. However I was disappointed with a number of factors in the movie. 1) At the closing of the story I had hoped there would be some written Afterword summaries on the film just before the ending credits; summaries like the fact "...Armstrong never went into space again...", how much longer Neil Armstrong's marriage lasted until he was divorced, and a summary on the end of his life. 2) There were no actual historic filmclips added to the documentaries of the disc. For example I wanted to see, in full, President Kennedy's goal of sending a man to the moon "...before this decade is out..." 3) Another filmclip I had hoped to see, but was not in the Documentaries either, was an actual TV-monitor-to-film footage of the real Neil Armstrong "...at the foot of the ladder..."; and I had hoped to hear his actual voice, unedited, describing the surface of the moon. Then saying it's "...one small step for man..."

I think that "First Man" was one of the greatest biographical/historical films of all-time and it was also one of my favorite biographical/historical films of all-time. I've read several books about the Apollo 11 mission and I was really excited to see "First Man" in theaters and I immediately enjoyed seeing this film. I also think that "First Man" had a lot of entertaining, exciting and enjoyable drama and action including an exciting and original personal/historical storyline.

A heartbreaking and inspiring film about the first man who landed on the moon. I don't know how accurate it is with it's history or the personal life of Neil Armstrong but they integrated the real Audio recording from Nasa during his landing and real radio/television recording during that time which was an incredibly cool touch and made the film have that much more of an impact.

I lived through the moon landing - we watched Armstrong take his first step on a TV right here in Indy. But I never knew he was a civilian astronaut at the time; he had been an X-15 test pilot, and had flown so high that his craft bounced off the atmosphere when he tried to bring it down; that he had lost a daughter as a toddler -- and much more. This is as much a biography of Armstrong as it is a history of the space program -- fascinating stuff. It should be better known.

"First Man" in 4K wasn't as emotionally impactful as I had hoped. Some of the in-flight scenes are good, if not a little overdone, in terms of trying to put viewers in the astronauts' place. They could be a little overdone at times as well, though. All-in-all, a good movie but I was disappointed it wasn't on a par with "The Right Stuff" in terms of raw, visceral appeal.

This is a poignant story regarding Neil Armstrong and the interactions between him, his family and friends during his transition from test pilot to astronaut. The pace may be a bit slow for some, but that is deliberate. The building off the space program from ground zero is done well, and the anxiety that the families felt is palpable. Definitely a recommended watch.

A slow pace story of Neil Armstrong and how his journey to be a NASA astronaut. It was slow paced at times but covered his trials and tribulations. The only part that was disappointing was not covering the planting of the US Flag on the moon... Also, a little more humor in the dialogue and kidding around that the Astronauts did...

Was not sure what to expect from this movie, but enjoyed how it delved in Neil Armstrong's life and the struggles he personally went through to be part of history. Seeing the combination of his work life and family life was interesting. Enjoyed Ryan Gosling in this movie as well as the historical aspects of NASA and the space program.

After the Oscar-winning two-punch of Whiplash (2014) and La La Land (2016), director Damien Chazelle brings us something entirely new with his latest film, the absolutely astonishing, gripping and experiential First Man. The picture is not only the story of Neil Armstrong (Ryan Gosling), the first man to walk on the moon, but also of NASA’s Apollo space missions leading up to the historic moon landing in 1969.

I missed this movie in the theater so 4K was second best. After seeing it at home I really kicked myself for not seeing this in IMAX. The visuals and some of the action are intense. I wasn't prepared for how stressful this movie was at times. Overall, I enjoyed it, though the special effects were more well done than the drama/script. Get it in 4K for the best home experience.

This movie will please both the engineering types and the people who want to see the human reactions of this monumental event. There's an authentic look inside the mechanics of NASA to put together the progress to and success of the 1st moon landing. Also anybody interested in the personal stories of the astronauts and their families in dealing with this even will see lots of coverage.

Not a triumphal representation of Neil Armstrong and Apollo 11. Armstrong is depicted as permanently haunted by the death of his young daughter. He is also driven to succeed at any risk. The Nasa brass are shown as desperate to win the "space race" at any cost. It's still a good movie, but far from inspiring.

This movie covers the story of what Neil Armstrong went through on his quest to the moon. The acting in the movie was well done and the best part is the Dolby Atmos Sound track. If you have a Dolby Atmos theater set up this is one of the must have 4k Blu-Rays to have in your collection for that alone!

I love movies, history, and grew up as an enthusiast of the space program since the 1960's. This movie met all these criterias and more with an honest and intimate storytelling of the human side of this historical event. Probably Ryan Gosling's best performance yet as Neil Armstrong, and as could be expected, an excellent job by Claire Foy as Janet Armstrong.

Fabulously shot and wonderfully acted. They departed from facts only a time or two. My biggest complaint: Much of the movie is shot with a hand-held "steadicam," which, as you probably know, isn't real steady. Directors like it because it gives their film an urgent, documentary-like feel. I hate it because it makes me seasick. But whatever. The movie succeeds despite this.
