    One of 2018’s best films

An intimate, emotional look at an American hero. I’ve seen many things covering the Apollo 11 mission but none of them capture the moment in quite the same way this film does. Gosling and Foy are incredible as Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong. The musical score is stunning. And Damien Chazelle once again proves he’s one of this generation’s greatest working directors. 5/5.

More of a Biopic than a Space Movie

First Man is mainly a biopic about the experiences and personal qualities of the man who first stepped on the surface of the moon. Ryan Gosling gives a convincing performance of Armstrong's triumphs and tragedies. The 4K DVD presents the wonders of space with amazing clarity.

While the mythos of extraordinary human accomplishment is important as an ideal to aspire to, we are still only human and require a reminding. I consider this telling an honest attempt at honest representation of the humanity which is in us and necessary in our quest to realize more.

    Well made, but...

Overall, I thought the movie was well made. It captured Armstrong's test pilot point-of-view better than movies like the Right Stuff. The absence of the American flag on the moon, except for one long shot, has been noted before. The other big thing missing was any mention of faith, church, or God. Growing up during that time, those things were important parts of everyday life. Yet, they were completely absent from the film with the exception of token symbolism in passing. Armstrong's sons mentioned the wit and humor typical among servicemembers. Instead, he came across as brooding and humorless, never really getting over the death of his 2-year-old daughter until walking on the moon. So, the movie was great from a technical point-of-view, but could've been better.

Hi, This was a very enjoyable movie, certainly a bit of a roller coaster. The first 5 minutes were awesome. I certainly learned something watching this about what the crew and everyone involved went through. Very much an edge of the seat movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Go buy this, you will not be dissapointed! Looked fantastic on my new LG 65" OLED : )

Fascinating Insight into First Man On The Moon

The special effects and cinematography are outstanding, but that's not what makes this movie so engrossing. Getting a glimpse into the difficulties and challenges Neil Armstrong faced preparing to get to the moon makes this movie much more than the standard Apollo documentary.

I got more from documentaries, nothing beats "The Right Stuff". Overall a decent movie that shows personal insight into Neil's family life and a great re-imagining/visualization of the moon landing. Worth watching if you appreciate and respect Neial and NASA.

First rate filmmaking all around. Ryan Gosling's determined but cold and detached performance leads to an emotional wallop of a finish. The visuals and sound fully immerse viewers into the dangerous, fascinating career of space travel and discovery.

This isn't the best example out there for 4k, but it was good.I think it overemphasized a few things in armstrong's life. If you are going to dramatize something might as well go all in and make it exciting. Apollo 13 for example was a much better movie.

A balance that's rarely struck with historical films is bringing the characters to life without sanitizing or sensationalizing their flaws. A compelling story is told, while providing a glimpse of what enabled ordinary people to accomplish the extraordinary.

FIRST MAN is a stimulating look into the heart and soul of Neil Armstrong and all the stress, heartache and turmoil he experienced in losing his daughter and enduring all the trials of preparing to becoming the first man to walk on the moon. It's an extraordinary personal story told, and a real look into actual manned space flight.

Neil Armstrong. A very private man. A genuine explorer and American hero. This beautifully shot movie explores his life In and out of the command capsule of Apollo 11. Well paced, surprisingly engaging and brilliant performances all around. The 4k uhd release does not disappoint. Visually gorgeous, sonically wonderful.

I knew some of the background of Neil Armstrong trip to the moon but this movie gave us some insight into the astronaut himself and how this effected him personally. I thought it was well done and it kept my interest throughout the movie.

This film is nearly a masterpiece that recieved almost ZERO love from the film industry this year. Damien Chazelle directs the heck out of this incredibly intimate story of Neil Armstrong and his journey to get to the moon. Forget about the "flag controversy," because flags are everywhere. See it for yourself!

I think it's a little too long and there are some slow parts but the astronaut training and all of the build up to Apollo 11 make it worth it. It was one of my first movies on my new 65" QLED and the moon scenes sold me on my upgrade.

Since we knew the story pretty well, having grown up in the period, this humanized what we knew. What makes the film though is the amazing depiction of first manned space flight with all the danger and claustrophobia. It reminded me why my son and I had a love of all things NASA.

A look at the life of the astronaut, Neil Armstrong, and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man to walk on the Moon on July 20, 1969. It is a first person account basically told through the eyes of the first person to walk on the moon. Excellent film - don't miss it.

Great Neil Armstrong Biopic. Makes a good trilogy of American space program films when combined with "The Right Stuff" and "Apollo 13" (Add "Hidden Figures" to make it a quadrilogy). Excellent Dolby Vision picture and Atmos sound.
