I purchased this movie as a Christmas present for my grandmother because she loves realistic movies, and this seemed to be pretty much based on real things, if not a specific event. We were surprised by the graphicness of this movie, as there was a sticker over the rating box, and the description on the back says nothing about that. Overall it was a good movie once you get past the drugs. inappropriateness and cursing. (I have nothing against these things, but they were very unexpected.)

Any movie with Denzel gets seven thumbs up, and yes, I have 7 thumbs. It's a birth defect. Anyways, the plot and direction of the movie was not what I expected when I sat down to watch it. I thoughts it would be more of an action flick than a drama, which turned out not to be a bad thing at all. Denzel, of course, steals the show with his amazing acting super powers. John Goodman, despite his limited role, was hysterical. Anyone who gave this 3 stars clearly was not watching the same movie, fact.

Denzel gave a stellar performance as an "in denial" alcoholic pilot. The film had a slight religious flair as he realized there was a power greater than himself guiding his actions during the mechanical failure that caused the plane he was flying to crash. He realized he could no longer control his alcoholism and admitted he had been drinking the night before and during the flight. The movie contains some nudity and foul language.

***SpoilerAlert*** or Public Service Announcement Beware surgeons and airline pilots have access to O2 Oxygen. So? If you've ever had a screaming hangover and the knowledge that those are brain cells suffocating and crying out with there last breath for air, better yet oxygen: So? If your surgeon or pilot over indulged prior to the time it to providing the service you're paying for they might huff some O2 and carry on unsmartly. Thus said, cockpit cocktails at 30,000ft, tested by an uncontrolled dive (plummet), leveling out inverted and follow with a steeple crushing glide into terra firma. That's the fun part of the film. Then an endless stream of diverse labels of beer and liquors maybe to avoid suit or endorsement of any one particular beverage company. It's about redeemption maybe or it parallels the state of the nation or the screenwriters were simply projecting something of their own lives. If you like Denzel, air travel, connecting flight with air medi-evac, every special price beer, NTSB, Dr. Feel good, mini-bars better stocked than actual bars, unions willing to go to Faustian heights to exonerate a Member you might be a frequent flyer.
