To finally have this in Blu-ray and it not just be a transfer from a falling apart film was a huge thing for me. So many films are just direct transfers from films that were not digitally processed, cleaned up, sharpened/repaired, etc. to DVD. Then, they would take that version from the DVD, put it on a Blu-ray and call it special.
NOT SO with this! It has been cleaned up and fully restored to its original splendor! Well done.

Scientist Andre Delambre becomes obsessed with his latest creation, a matter transporter. He has varying degrees of success with it. He eventually decides to use a human subject, himself, with tragic consequences. During the transference, his atoms become merged with a fly, which was accidentally let into the machine. He winds up with the fly's head and one of it's arms and the fly winds up with Andre's head and arm. Eventually, Andre's wife, Helene discovers his secret and must make a decision whether to let him continue to live like that or to do the unthinkable and euthanize him to end his suffering...

1st, the great, fabulous Vincent Price. Guess what? He isn't the mad scientist or the bad guy. Wow! In fact, there are no bad guys, just a scientist trying to do good for mankind & it backfires. Does it cause him to turn evil? No! But he does turn into something awful. If you're looking for romance & a more physical movie, shall I say, with more up to date special effects, feel free to check out the remake. If you want a better overall movie with a taut script, less lulls that also creates more sympathy for its characters, check this movie out. I liked both, this one I bought.

We all know and love David Cronenberg's interpretation of this story but what about the source material? Films like this and The Blob helped the often overly campy science fiction genre of the 50s to transcend itself and reach new heights and it shows throughout The Fly's duration. The movie is well-directed, has great dialogue and acting (Vincent Price, anyone?) and even showcases a few moments of genuine horror. At the end of the day, really, what's not to like? Highly recommended.

Classic Sci-Fi Horror - The Fly

The 1958 B&W version of the classic sci-fi horror film is still the best, since it leaves out the gore and fills in with suspense. A scientist working on a molecule transporter doesn't see a common house fly is with him in the chamber when he tries to beam himself up to Scotty (only kidding). The result is the head and arm of a fly on a man's body. Oh, the horror!! Creepy 60 years ago, but good campiness today. Still a classic.

I picked this movie up from the $5.99 bargain Blu-ray bin and I am so glad that I did. I had never seen The Fly before, but I knew of it and had seen the great Simpsons Halloween parody of it. I ended up really enjoying this movie and recommend it to any fan of classic sci-fi or horror.
The Blu-ray A/V is alright, but it could be better. The bonus features, on the other hand, are great. I especially enjoyed the biography of Vincent Price and the fun and informative audio commentary. Don’t let The Fly get away from you, buy it today!

For a film of this vintage, the quality was outstanding. Fox's release carries a consistently high quality presentation with nicely a rendered grainfield and, again, surprisingly robust audio. The average bitrate is also particularly high which is always nice to see. I wish more classics received this treatment.

This movie is a must for sci-fi/ horror fans of the fifties and sixties . The first shot of David (Al) Hedison"s Fly body in the press is pretty graphic for the time period! And how many creepy jokes have been made to lessen the terror of the final scene's human headed fly crying "Help Me...."

The movie is a great sci-fi classic that has been colorized. I prefer the black and white, but they have done a nice job with color. I would say the Blu-ray format is unnecessary but I bought it on discount.

Its a classic movie from 1958 that you must see. The first version I saw of this film was the remake with Jeff Goldblum and i thought that was great until I saw this one on Blu-ray!

This original version is the standard of high science fiction. A thrilling tale of a scientist pushing the boundaries of the unknown only to be thrown in a realm very few dare venture into.

I've been building my Blu ray collection of classics. Each October I've been adding any new to Blu ray horror "classics." I'm not sure if this is the first time The Fly has been on Blu ray, but I happily paid this great price!

Classic movie with good practical effects, the reveal of the fly is a classic moment in cinema history. However the picture quality isn't the best for a Blu-ray release I don't think they did much to clean it up. It's worth picking up on DVD or Blu-ray

A great monster movie that makes you feel bad for the monster. An experiment gone wrong leaves a scientist horribly changed forever. A tragic end and wonderful subtlety makes this a great film for any horror fan.
