    A truly unique gaming experience

Folklore is one of those games that's hard to nail down to just one genre. The game has elements of both action games and RPGs and the two elements blend together well. There are two stories in the game. One follows Ellen, a young girl trying to find clues to her forgotten past and the other follows Keates, a reporter for an occult magazine investigating a string of murders and strange events. The action takes place in both the real world and the realm of the dead, called the Netherworld. In the Netherworld, you fight creatures called "Folk" and gain the powers of the Folk you defeat in battle. Combat includes some intricate puzzles as each Folk have certain powers and weaknesses and features effective use of the SIXAXIS controller. Which makes for exciting gameplay. The music and graphics are top notch and give a hint to the power of the PS3. The Netherworld is brilliantly realized and quite spooky in some parts. The background characters look very cool, by the way. The best way I can think of to describe the background characters is to imagine a cross between Universal Studios' classic monster movies and Hayao Miyazaki's 'Spirited Away', with a little 'Alice in Wonderland' thrown in for good measure. If you own a PS3, then this is one of the essential games to own.

Great Graphics, Good Storyline, Unique Gameplay

PLAY MORE THAN JUST THE FIRST 20 MINUTES.. At first, I didn't like the game too much, mainly because nothing was really going on, and there is a lot of text speech. However, I decided to keep playing, and I found the game to get more and more interesting. It has a pretty good story line so far (I'm only on Chapter 2), but the graphics and visual effects are pretty amazing, especially on a HD screen. I personally would recommend this game to RPG/Final Fantasy fans. But don't get it wrong, it's not entirely a RPG game. It has that RPG style storyline, and the fighting style IS NOT like the final-fantasy mechanics. This game isn't for everyone, and with that said, I would ask you to rent it first, because I personally think that $60 is a little overpriced for this specific title. It's a great game, and that's coming from someone who isn't a fan of Final Fantasy.

    Just like a wedding...

Just like a wedding, this game has something new, something old... and I forget the rest. It follows the standard RPG gameplay pretty consistantly. The appeal of this game is there are few RPGs for the PS3 so far, this one has a cool story which isn't set in the typical dragons and wizards realm and it has a "monster catcher" power up system that makes use of the Staxis controller, something that even most action games haven't really put into use yet. To top it off, you can get this game for $30 most places, so you can't go wrong unless you hate role playing games.

    A Unique Adventure

People will probably call this game an RPG when in fact it is an Action/Adventure...with some RPG elements. The gameplay is unique as you play as either Keats or Ellen, travelling through beautifully detailed realms fighting "Folk". The most interesting part comes from defeating and capturing Folks and then using those Folks "souls" as weapons. You will encounter numerous enemies and bosses. The game will also feature the ability for players to create their own dungeons for other to download and play.

    Great Game!!!

My initial reaction to the game is that it's going to target a younger audience. After playing the game, however, the game has a bit of a dark twist that links the characters' past to the present and every chapter in the game draws you more and more interested in finding out what happens next. It's very suspenseful for a video game and if you're the type of gamer that puts emphasis on a great plot as well as awesome gameplay, then this game is a must have.

Kouji Okada has done it again.

A definite must-have for the PlayStation 3 if you're a fan of action/adventure games or other works of Kouji Okada (creator of the Shin Megami Tensei series). Visuals, music and story are all equally stunning to provide a well-rounded experience while playing this very unique game. You will also be playing through the chapters of the game from the viewpoints of the two main characters; Keats and Ellen which further adds to the depth of the story.

This game is now release and I have bought one from Bestbuy. This game is a good collection for RPG fans although this is a action/adventure game, it contains the element of a RPG game. The sixaxis is really useful in this game and the gameplay is so awesome. The best part is....... a secret until you buy the game.

    Fantastic Game

It begins with the feel of Resident Evil only instead of zombies you fight fairies. It has almost a Legend, with Tom Cruise, feel to it. The choice of the two characters adds depth to this game. A great buy!

    Disappointed

The storyline and idea behind the game made me want to purchase it. I read a few reviews and had semi-high expectations. After purchasing and playing the game, I started to realize that the story and the game was not for me. I played a level as Ellen, then a level as Keats, with each level being a mirrored. (Even though I like my share of RPGs), I thought that the game was very repetitive and it did get boring after a while. I eventually lost interest in the game, and would suggest that others interested in this game should download a demo first before making the purchase.
