If I could give this cd a hundred stars, I would. I love every single second of it. If you like Bon Iver, then you must add this to your collection. The entire cd is amazing!

It may only be 9 songs but Justin Vernon sure knows how to pack a punch. Each song on this album is great, no junk, just great music!

If I recall correctly I think I remember reading that he recorded this album in a cabin in the woods somewhere where he spent 3 months alone. This is what made me pick up the album originally because I wanted to hear what sort of music would come out of something like that, and I also grabbed it because "Skinny Love" was always in my head, and it's an extremely lovely song. I talk about this a lot when it comes to musicians and bands that I love, but his voice is amazing. It sounds almost magical in it's high pitched soft-ish way. My favourite tracks are "Lump Sum," "Blindsided," and "Re:Stacks." Each one are AMAZING. Especially "Re:Stacks," which is the last song on the record. My favourite line is "There's a black crow sitting across from me, his wirey legs are crossed.." This is one of those albums that I often forget about, but it's not forgettable so there must be something wrong with me. It's not really one I can talk about, you just have to hear it. Beautiful, beautiful music, and I can't wait to hear more from him.

    Absolutely Stunning Debut

Bon Iver's debut really growed on me. It's become the only thing I want to listen to, because after repeated listens there's more and more depth revealed. His voice is a higher-pitched falsetto, which sounds unique coupled with the indie/folk instrumentation. It's guitar-based, but it's not boring; he uses some orchestral backings and subtle electronic additions/manipulations, but first listen invariably yields the response, "that's beautiful." Perhaps the most striking aspect of this album is the emotion in his voice, especially in "Skinny Love" and "For Emma, Forever Ago," ranging from frustration to sadness. This is an uneniably raw, empassioned work by this exceptional songwriter. My highest marks and recommendation.
