Great channel a-la-cart offerings

Sling is a great product and alternative to the super expensive cable providers. You can add and remove channels and packages to your liking. The app is available on many devices and is very stable. They're always making improvements to the app and they do take customer feedback and implement it in the app - which is great.

Good Performance that requires tweaking

The LG - 65" Class - OLED - B8 Series is a good performer that requires a lot of time in the setup menus to get very good performance. This TV sits in a moderately lit room with skylights and faces a south window. Reflections are muted but still visible during the day. None of the preset picture settings were suitable for this room. Some presets were terrible. Even after optimization for the room, Blue colors are over-saturated when compared to the Reds and Greens - especially for broadcast news channels. Movies, on-demand and DVD sources provide better balanced colors. The black levels are impressive yet many sources have noise in the blacks that are rendered as dark gray (such as movie format black bars). The sound is adequate from the built-in speakers for general viewing. The screen is thin and easily warped, so adherence to the setup instructions is crucial. The packaging is outstanding and provides great protection during shipping. I found this model easier to assemble than previous year's models due to its one-piece stand but it requires two people to lift the TV due to its weight and size. Connections are easily accessible. The remote is comfortably small and only needs direct line-of-sight for on and off. Other remote functions are wireless. Most menus are intuitive although the "back" button seems to have different functionality for each menu mode. Sometimes it goes back to the previous menu item and other times it cancels the menu altogether. Overall, I don't think LG's OLED capabilities exceeds other brand's QLED technology enough to warrant a 20%+ increase in price.

TCL tv....very good buy for the money

I was sold on trying the TCL tv after reading an article in the Aug. edition of my local paper and reading a review in Consumers Guide.
It is considered on par with Samsung Q6 series but much less money and less well-known.
My initial purchase (55") proved beautiful picture and sound but kept turning off at random ( I could turn it back on immediately with good results but 20 min, later, sometimes 4 hrs later it would again turn itself off, Talked to Best Buy who gave me "re-setting" instructions, also offering a return and exchange. I chose to try resetting. Still same problem existed. Called TCL and got resetting instructions...still problem...called TCL again and tried another approach (wanting to rectify the problem because everything about this tv was otherwise perfect and cost was good) still no solution.
Decided to do the return and exchange offered. Have had 2nd TCL for only 2 days but have kept it on for hours at a time with no problems. Am very happy this time so far but have until Jan. 12th to return it if anything negative shows up. Evidently just got a defective TV which can happen with any product. So satisfied with BEST BUY from the initial salesman through to the"problem solver", to the delivery men, all so willing to work with me toward my satisfaction with my chosen product. Beautiful, clear picture and good sound... so far, so good ....with more money left in the bank than if I had gone with a more popular but more expensive name brand. Only giving 4 star rating at this time because of previous problem but if all goes as is so far I would upgrade to 5 stars.

It’s good. We have tried many options for tv. We have a roku, a fire stick, PlayStation Vue. Figured we would try Sling- it’s good. Cheap. We will probably stick with PlayStation though.

I like the option of having multiple subscriptions on the account, but the app is not very slick. It does not allow you to use third-party app like HBO GO for HBO subscription

Do Yourself a Big Favor & Look At TCL-Roku TV Sets

I have only had Vizio the past six years (total of 4 sets) and hte models are either M or P Series and the sizes were 65" and 70". The reason for 4 sets is 2 of the Vizio sets failed and were replaced under warranty. The latest failure was only two weeks ago and so I decided it was time to switch brands due to reliability.
Naturally I did my research and was wondering whether it was worth awaiting the 2019 models and learning more about 8 k, etc. Well, early on in my research efforts, I discovered there wasn't any reason to wait since 8k is a long way down the road and the 2018 sets are just terrific already.
Once you get over the marlakey with refresh rates of 60 vs 120 vs 240 vs whatever the heck name a manufacturer likes to assign to ike True Motion, etc., you'll conclude that 60 is really all you need, unless you stream really advanced video games and then 120 is what you'll want. Absent that, 60 is all you will ever need and once you settle on that feature, selecting a set becomes easier.
I chose TCL-Roku because of its unique platform, picture & sound quality. Obviously a home theater system is what you'll want to also have with a great TV but the speakers on this set have a lot of cranking power. The picture quality is friggin' wonderful.......Nuf Ced about that......and the controls are easy to use. I'd prefer a sturdier remote than the one that comes with the set but for under $1k, it's not a issue.
Set-up is really simple and the screen walks you through the process. I went with the 65" andI wish it came in a larger size but 65" works for now until a larger version becomes available. And why would I say something like that? Great question.......because this set is 1/2 the price of others I was considering.
Unless you're willing to spend almost $4k on a LG OLED 84" set, which a lot of us aren't prepared to do, then for under a grand.....yes, under a $1000......you can have the best TV set made, If you doubt my review, go lookup CNET's review of 2018 sets under a $1000.......TCK-Roku Series 6 - 65" TV was rated #1 and it really blows away sets costing upwards of $2k.
And with Roku, if you cable service goes out like mine did last week, you can still stream on your set by just turning the set off and back on. The Roku platform separates the cable TV box from the other streaming apps so when your TV cable is temporarily lost, as long as you have Internet connectivity, the TCK-Roku set enables you to still pull down streaming TV shows and movies etc. even when your cable service is temporarily lost like happened with me last week.......it's a really cool feature.

It’s a good service, like the title says. Only thing that needs to seriously be considered by anyone looking to cut the cord and go this route is how robust their home network is right now, because if you have a household where your WiFi capability is currently about at its limit and you’re used to watching live tv through a cable/satellite service, then you really might want to invest in some equipment upgrades beforehand to avoid any future headaches that could have been completely preventable with a little more preparation, because if you go ahead and jump onboard with Sling without the necessary updates you’ll need to meet the new demands being put on your network because you’re thinking that it won’t be that big of a deal since it’s “just once more device” among all the several other various devices that are on it at any one time, then you’ll probably only wind up with some raised blood pressure at the least and out of a good chunk of change at the most if you go out buying random routers on impulse that turn out to be junk and/or still inadequate to suit the amount of data throughput you’re needing to support a service like this one.

This is a fantastic TV for the price. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the legs do not install evenly on my model. My TV leans just a bit to one side. It's really minimal (about 1/8") but the OCD in me makes me a bit uneasy. Plan to buy a stand to replace the legs. They're cheap.
Anyway, the picture and usability is phenomenal. Be sure to take and use expert video/picture setup codes from Consumer Reports or Rtings.com and your picture will be awesome. You can tweak them from there to suit your personal preference.
I use Roku and Playstation Vue and it is awesome! Easy to use, every channel imaginable, and really affordable. Able to watch so much content there is not enough hours in the day. 60Hz motion rate does not seem to be an issue as I watched Super Bowl on my local CBS affiliate an never a blur. Colors really popped. And, my Playstation 4 in HD is eye f'ing popping. Wow!
We were able to cut our cable cost, purchase this TV and SAVE $100/month. The 55" is perfect for my living room, and this TV looks great during the day or night. UHD content is amazing.
You will not be sorry. Used to have an LG and was fixated on a known brand name, but why pay for that? I'd have to pay at least $800 for a smaller TV to get what we have now.
Really satisfied.

Sling is one of the more common streaming apps you have out there, it's got a great deal of sports, movies and tv shows as well as live tv, it's %100 cheaper then getting cable or a tv service with a box or an antenna, I highly recommend this to anyone who's trying to save money but still get a good live tv provider

Good value

Overall good value, just take note this tv (like most Samsung t.v’s) are not truly compatible this Alexa. Even when connected to SmartThings hub the only function that works via Alexa is to turn on and off the t.v.
I Called Samsung tech support and they confirmed the features that Alexa can control varies t,v model to t.v. Model and that price or the fact they they may or may not have have Bixby doesn’t make a difference, Samsung t.vs are NOT 100% compatible with Alexa.
E.g. with this model Alexa can turn tv on and off, in other models just on and not off, in other models just the volume. So basically making Alexa useless.
Another concern is that there is no analog output nor headphone jacks. So connecting to an older home theater with rca type plugs is impossible unless you use an optical to rca converter which will not give you volume control via tv remote you will have to Control the volume via the home theatre system. I initially tried to use the Hdmi arc connection ( which should provide volume control via tv remote) but it did not work when connected to a hdmi to rca converter. All in all like I said it’s a decent tv and a good value. You’ll be happy with it if the above mentioned doesn’t bother you.

Absolutely Awesome 4K TV

I had a TV that got hit during a thunder storm on the 4th of July, it was 11 years old. TV'S have changed a great deal since I shopped for one, so this was a learning experience. It took me a little under 6 months to decide on a new one, after researching every TV out there. I didn't want to spend over a thousand dollars, and of course everything I liked was over 2 thousand dollars. I made up my mind, and decided on the Sony x900F 55in, so I was waiting for it to go down to at least one thousand dollars during Christmas, but it was not happening.
So I started shopping again and saw that LG was have a December sale , and decided on the LG SK9000. It was on sale for $899.99 which was $300.00 off. I couldn't have made a better choice, this TV is amazing!! In spite of the reviews from the big guys that say the Blacks are not Black enough but look grey, I don't find that to be true, they are very black. The picture was nice out of the box, but after 2 days of calibrating I found the perfect picture for me, We are all different but there are so many ways to calibrate, everyone will find their perfect picture.
All the TV reviews aree very bad on sound, but not this TV, the sound is excellent for TV speakers, It does have a bass boost setting, which I am using, it is not a deep thumping bass, but good enough, so a sound bar is not necessary.
I have XFinity cable and it hooked up to the WiFi with ease, and works just fine, The apps are good for my needs for me, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Vudu, and You Tube, are all very fast and work well, I only has a couple of streaming shows that were a bit grainy, but it had to be the movie itself because everything else is crystal clear. This TV has a magic remote, that I really like, it is voice activated, so I use it along with my XFinity remote.
I have the TV In a bright room during the day, and the Picture is perfect with very little reflection, at night in the dark or with the lights on the picture is amazing, and this TV Picture does not degrade when looking at if from an angle.
My seating is 9ft away from the TV and the 55 in is more than enough, however I would have gone for the 65in if it was affordable, for me, it may have been overpowering, but I would have anyway!
I can't say enough about how happy I am with this TV, even the design and the stand are very modern and sleek looking, there is no bezel, I would suggest 2 people doing the set up, I did it myself and it was fine but very risky, because there is no frame the glass can crack very easily.
The stand has a bit of a wobble to it if the floor shakes when walking, not a problem for me. The screws that go into the foot of the stand don't sink all the way in, which causes that. The short screws that go into the back of the TV are tight and perfect!
The reviews say because of the stand, a sound bar can not be put in front of the TV, not so on my TV stand, there is plenty of room for a sound bar, if you have to have one!

Replaced a LG magnolia super uhd hdr 4K just over a year old. had a line thru panel. This Samsung QLED C7 was the only Hi line tv in our price range. went in to buy a Sony, Samsung or LG. after reading all reviews and wanted the 8 line not the 7, but didn't want to pay more. all that being said. So far very happy with this Samsung TV
Pros. Great pic!, Love the hi dynamic range. Great sound on amplify! don't even use sound bar any more. Love the ability to fine tune picture, and fine tune sound, ease to get to apps. not as easy as my other tv's, since Netflix, Hulu, ... are right on remote. Remote has it's positives: i love the mute button and ease to change volume, ... including finding buttons in dark, size of remote is great.
Cons. poor instructions. TV is wobbly (obviously not wall mounted), remote turns on other cable box, dvd, ... but doesn't turn them off. side angle view is not as good as in front. it's not bad just not as good. the LG was same anywhere i sat.
So, over all, we are very satisfied and happy with our choice. if you are considering this tv and don't want to step up for an 8 or 9 don't hesitate to buy this TV

So my 3 year old 58in Samsung tv went black but the sound still worked. Which prompted me to unexpectedly get a new tv. I returned 2 TVs in a week in a half and settled on the Sony. First tv hisense 60in do not recommend terrible for watching sports ..second tv lg a1 55inch ..looked great in the store but completely different when I got home it was dark and the colors didn’t appear right ..I tried to adjust the picture and everything but still didn’t look right to me...by this point I’m fatigued of buying and returning TVs. I decided to step up and get out of the “entry level” tvs and I decided on what I trusted the most and that was a Sony. This tv is great I love it. Personally do I think it’s worth almost 1400 bucks no. Maybe once I watch a 4K movie or get better cables it will be worth it. I mainly watch sports and it’s better than the other two TVs but I just thought for all that money it would blow me away and it’s just really good. I would still recommend this tv though it just doesn’t have the wow factor that I thought it would. Overall I am satisfied with the purchase.

dazzling picture and a few small quirks

I love this TV and highly recommend it to others. Let me mention a few small things in the hope to make it easier for others.
1. When you start the Tv a screen appears telling you to go to roku's web site enter the code on the screen and when the activation is complete this start screen will disappear. I went to the web site enters the code and started enrolling with a free roku account and credit card info (you can skip this) and personalizing your new TV. Before I could complete this, an error message pops up on the TV effectively telling me I can retry or test my internet connection (I used an ethernet cable) and then retry. I went through this a half dozen times, Completing the online process, but the screen on the TV with the error message remained. I called TCL got the standard please be patient message. About 5 minutes on hold the the screen on the TV disappeared and I was good to go. I suspect it takes a while for Roku to activate the TV and you should just ignore the error messages.
2. The TV has wifi. Maybe it was my bad luck but after hooking up the TV, my laptop internet was slow. I switched to the 5 GHZ connection on my router and all was good.
3. The best buy version of this tv has a RF remote. Any physical obstruction blocks this. So my center speaker blocked this. I had to place it off center. If you can't see the TCL letters at the bottom of the TV, your remote probably won't work. If you have a soundbar, this may be a bigger challenge. Come on TCL move the location of the RF receiver off center!!
4. The TV and my Denon receiver have an ARC connection to pass sound from the tV to the surround sound receiver, but I could not get the TV to acknowledge it. I found an optical cable and that works fine.
5. My center speaker is 4 inches tall but the TV screen starts at 3.75 inches. I'm fine, but it's a trivial blockage.
Now about the TV. The picture is amazing. The sharpness and detail is night and day better than the 7 year old Vizio it replaced. I know all tv images are 2-d, but It also gives people and objects a volume rather than a flatness. I say this even though I am drawing from comcast and netflix which do not have 4k source material. So I assume it is upscaling. Finally, the blacks are finally really black. Before I has trouble seeing detail in dark night scenes but no longer
A number of people who bought this TV complained of banding, but I studied my TV images and see none of it. Also I see almost no bleeding in the corners.
I'm sure if you spend considerably more, you can get a better TV, but I can't imagine a better value with a great picture than the 6 series TCL.

We decided to try the 30 day trial that came with our tv since we had gotten rid of cable months ago and wanted to see if this was a good alternative. The channel offerings in both blue and orange packages seemed decently varied, we went with the one with the NFL network. It's great that you have a variety of different add ons to choose from as well for your subscription, but we opted against those since we didnt want to pay during the trial. The interface takes a little getting used to, it has the traditional looking guide option, but you can also browse by channel to check out to on demand offerings. One thing I've noticed that seems pointless is that on some channels they will have a recently aired section that will show you recent shows but they arent always available as on demand options so they are showing you what you missed and cant watch? Other than that it seems like a good alternative to the high cost of cable without losing too many channels
