I bought this air conditioner to replace the 6,500 btu unit I had bought last week, because it was just was not enought to cool off my 260 sq ft. living room. When I got it and installed it I didn't think I was going to work so well it only took about 20 min - 30 min to really cool the whole room. Even though it is kind off noisy at the high fan speed, the cooling is great and being that it is small size air conditioner it does a the job with great potential at 8,000 btu. As soon the room cooled down, I turned down the fan speed to medium and the noise wasn't bad and it did it's job. I recommend this for a mid size room!

Always can depend on the Frigidaire brand. Shopped around but returned to Frigidaire for confidence and value. Bought two. No complaints.

    Best AC for the money

I am really impressed with this little air conditioner. And I do mean little it was the lightest weight AC I found for 8000 BTU's and was a piece of cake to get in the window. It easily cools my 850 sq ft apartment, it is placed in a bedroom that gets a lot of sun, and it still has cooling power left over. I have it set in the eco mode where it maintains a constant 68 degrees with the auto fan, so if it needs a little adjustment, the low fan kicks on, and if really hot the high fan kicks on. It is not so quiet you can't tell it is on, like some models claim. But it is not that noisy either, definitely fine for a bedroom. (I can still hear the tv over it.) The clean air filter is great, I have asthma, and I have found this to significantly cut down on pollen inside when I have it set on. The remote does not have the temperature sensing that I have seen the higher up frigidaires come with. But, every feature can be accessed by the remote, and it works from far away. Warranty $30 for 2 yrs, not bad either :)

    Great AC for a bedroom

This unit replaced my 7800 btu Panasonic unit which still works good but it was making rattling noises internally and was HUGE compared to this unit. Frigidaire is smaller and more powerful. Great for a small attic bedroom, keeps the room at the desired temp without breaking a sweat. I love the 24 hour timer (0-10 in 30 min, 10-24 in 1 hr increments.) Fan on medium and high is pretty loud but low is just right and it still blows alot of air. I havent used the sleep function but I'll have to test that, also there is a button for "clean air" but i didnt notice much difference when it's on. The AC also has 3 modes, Auto which adjusts the fan speed according to how it senses the inside temp, fan only, and economy which comes on every so often to check the temp and either turns off or turns the compressor on and cools until auto shut off again which is ok.. My only gripe is when it wakes up from timer, it automatically turns on with fan on high which is loud! Also, the control panel buttons beep really loud each time you go to make an adjustment, there might be a way to turn the sound off but i havent read the book.. Also, if it's not that warm out, the compressor kicks in for a little while and then shuts off and ac is on fan mode, it blows in stale air, I should see if I can mess around with the sleep mode and so when it comes on, it's always with compressor on and when the compressor shuts off, the unit shuts off too. If you only have the fan on and compressor hasnt came on, it blows in normal air, only when the compressor has been running and it turns off, then the fan air is stale.. Over all, I give it 4/5 stars, nice AC for a small room, doesnt weigh much, looks good, comes with a remote and is somewhat quieter than other units i've had. It's a good deal if you can find it for under $200 bucks, competitive price @ Bestbuy, same unit was $50 more at S**rs.

I'm very happy with this air conditioner. It was very inexpensive and it was worth the money. It was light, easy to set up and cools the room well. My only disappointment is that it doesn't have rotating fans, so the air only blows forward, but it's not the end of the world. Still a good unit.

When buying an air conditioner, the BTUs or the space it will cool is provided for a reason. Most people are under the impression that bigger is better and think to themselves, if I have a 10x10 room that a 5000 or 6000 BTU will cool then an 8000 BTU will turn my room into the Arctic Circle, but sadly this couldn't be further from the truth. Buy the unit rated for the space you are trying to cool. If you have a 10x10 room for example, that is a 100 sq ft room and a 5000 BTU will do the job just fine. The only adjustments you will need to make are depending on the type of room. For example a 10x10 kitchen area will require something bigger like a 6000 BTU since when cooking it gets hotter in the room. If you are trying to cool a man cave with computers, gaming systems, TV and such then you will want bigger because of the extra heat produced by your stuff. Here is a good way to look at this. If you take a No Doze to stay awake and follow the directions on the bottle, you have an excellent chance of staying awake, however if you think to yourself the bottles says take 2 so if I take 6 I'll be even more awake it won't work because after a certain point it actually has the opposite effect and you will feel sleepy. This is the same principle I see so many people reviewing and knocking stars because they have a beast of an air conditioner not designed to cool smaller areas.... which leads me to the next complaint I see. Noise. Come on people... it is an all in one unit! What is everyone comparing to? Their central air system? Again if you are not buying the right BTU then you are going to have more noise. Buy an 8000 BTU unit for a 10x10 room and it's going to be a noise beast compared to a 5000 BTU unit you should have bought. Last bit of advice... when installing, if you did it right, your unit should have a slight downward slope on the outside part. This slope is what causes the condensation to drain off and away from your unit. I think I saw a review with some pictures of water in the vents. This is simply because the unit was not installed properly. You need the slope or it won't work. Anyway I'm cooling a man cave and I'm in a 10x10 (100 sq ft) room. The room is rather smallish, but I have a beast of a computer, Xbox 360, PS3, Monitors and my 47 inch TV wall mounted and most are going all at the same time depending on who and how many are in here. Let's put it this way, on the colder of winter days I do not need any heaters running as it takes about 20 minutes and it's nice and toasty in here. This is what a bigger unit in this situation is better. Hope all this helps!

I purchased the 5000 BTU Frigidaire unit but returned it because it only cooled my bedroom 2 degrees in 6 hours. I exchanged that unit for this AC and within 30 minutes my room was cooled by 8 degrees. This thing is a champ! I like the remote control that comes with it too. It is a bit loud at the highest fan settings, and I noticed that there was a Styrofoam-like rubbing noise (almost like rubbing styrofoam against styrofoam) when the compressor is on so I just tied a string around the perimeter of the plastic face plate and the noise is gone. I wish it pulled a little more of the humidity out of the air, but it does a decent job. Other than that, this unit cools fast, gets it cold, and definitely gets the job done.

Purchased this model because they were out of stock on the 6,000 btu model, maybe that was a mistake because this was for a bedroom, and the unit is amazingly loud in a 13 x 13 room, even on the lowest of the 3 fan speeds. I wish they published db (decibel) levels for all A/C units but these numbers are almost impossible to find. I believe Consumer Reports is about the only organization that does use a db meter when doing their reviews. The first night in sleep mode, it kept my daughter awake most of the night because it switches on every 10 minutes and runs for about a minute, apparently this is really annoying. Many of the features are very useful if you can live with the noise level, economy mode turns the whole unit off between cycles. The unit cools the room very well, from 77 down to 72 in 25 minutes in Auto fan speed mode, with high 90's outside. It cooled the room from the original 87 down to 77 in less than an hour too. The second night we cooled the room down to 72 for a couple of hours before bedtime and then turned it off and set the timer to come on 8.5 hours later, which worked quite well and may be the only reason we don't take it back.
