Customers are saying

Customers admire the Sport XL Portable Bluetooth Speaker's sound quality and long battery life. Many also appreciate its waterproof design, perfect for outdoor use. However, some customers felt the volume could be improved for larger spaces or louder environments. The speaker's audio performance may not be sufficient for all outdoor activities.

Awesome sounding, looking, waterproof speaker. Had tried this and the Jbl xtreme and hands down this speaker sounds the best. Not to mention all the rest of the perks that go with it. 35 hour battery life, floats, 360 degree sound, etc. You will not be disappointed!

This speaker has better volume than the smaller version, but it will still sometimes crackle or sound funny when it gets loud. It could still be louder though. But overall it's got a good enough volume and sound for my purposes. It does sometimes also have issues switching sound connection between different programs (i-tunes to Youtube or something like that). However...it IS hardy! It got tossed across the room once and is perfectly fine. No problems there. I also LOVE that it has a remote that you can buy. There is a delay in the remote sometimes, but it has one...I couldn't find any other speakers out there with everything I needed, so this was it: remote, loud, throwable (and not breakable) and pretty good sound.

For the size and weight of this speaker, I was expecing for it to play louder. For a decent sound level, I need to have it turned up all the way while bike riding. It is a bit big to tag along for a bike ride. I see more people on bikes with speakers that are about half the size. However, the Fugoo Sport XL has significantly better sound quality with a bit more volumn that smaller speakers. So, other than wishing that it could go louder, I am satisfied.

Bought this so I could listen to music while working in an assembly plant. Very loud environment, but I'm still able to hear my music clearly. Very happy with sound quality and volume plus it fits in my backpack easily.

Sounded pretty good...wasn't as loud as expected for the size. Cant get any accessories for it (like the carrying strap or shells) even though its advertised as being able to change the skins.. you cant buy them.

I came home today and was excited to see that my Fugoo Sport Xl had arrived! After many months of waiting for this speaker to hit the stores due to all the hype Fugoo has boasted, I couldn't wait to open it up. Earlier this summer I purchased a UE Megaboom and it was fairly decent sounding but the clarity wasn't quite there. So after reading many reviews, it sounded like the Fugoo XL was going to be the solution. So I just opened the Sport XL up and plugged it in. Before I get to the sound I have to say the owners manual is mediocre at best. Although it doesn't take an in depth novel to describe what this thing can do, a list of all the functions, battery life, etc. would be nice. Pretty much its a quick start guide which is 33 pages with 1 page in English with a bunch of pictures and a diagram of the speaker and bullets on which each button does. For $300 put a little more effort into the manual Fugoo. Now let's get to the sound. Although it has 8 speakers this thing sounds like it maybe has 4. The bass is decent, by no means is it a deep bass. It has good mid range sound, however the highs are nonexistent. I turned it up all the way which I was expecting to be loud and fill a room. Unfortunately it sounds muffled and underpowered. Also you are unable to adjust the bass or treble to your liking. Come on Fugoo! It's 2015, I had that feature on my 1985 boombox! You can switch between indoor and outdoor mode, which I guess outdoor mode is suppose to be "loud" mode but they both sounded the same to me. I feel that if you were able to turn the treble and bass up and if it had a few more clicks on the volume then this speaker would sound great. Even after hitting the volme up button repeatedly, sadly all I did was find myself wanting more. A big let down Fugoo, I expected something better after the way you built this speaker up. Unless there is a firmware update which makes this thing sound like it should, I will be returning it.

    Feature Set vs. Volume

After my gen 1 UE Boom started to fail, I needed to find a new speaker for poolside use. I wanted a balance between audio quality, water proofing and portability. I tested the Megaboom in store and found it too be harsh and bright. I also tested the Xtreme and preferred it's sound but didn't like the lack of 360 sound. So, despite some concerns with volume, I picked the Fugoo XL. The feature set was perfect and I figured we could always keep the speaker beside the pool if we needed more. We immediately tested it and all 3 kids thought the gen 1 UE Boom was louder. While the sound of the Fugoo was probably technically better, they were right. You simply can't hear that good audio in a medium sized outdoor space where kids are playing. Given the $299 price tag, I have decided to return it for something louder. I couldn't live with the fact that it took $300 to get almost the same volume as a 2 year old UE Boom.

I was expecting really impressive sound. It's sounds good at moderate volume, low on the bass side though. Where it struggles is in the upper range, turn it up and the higher pitch voices start crackling, the bass never goes up with the volume. I was disappointed. I compared it to the Jbl xtreme that I bought too. It's a much better sounding speaker, I just hate the zipper thing....
