Every Star Trek fan (especially of the original TV series) should see this. It's a great fun-filled, self-effacing look at a legendary sci-fi show, long out of production, its actors trapped in their characters by their legions of fans and seeing no future in their careers but endless "Cons" and PR events... Until one day they're confronted with Thermians, extra-terrestrials who believe the actors to be the actual heroes they portray, and the their race's last hope for survival.
Action and Trek in-jokes abound as these actors find themselves aboard a real, fully-functional replica of their ship from the show and facing the Thermians' merciless enemy. One bent on obtaining the mysterious Omega13 device from the ship and eliminating the last of the Thermians in a single final assault.
This Blu-ray has some nice extras, BUT if you already have the 2009 Blu-ray release this edition apparently does NOT have any new additions, so don't bother "double-dipping."
Galactopedia (created by Michael and Denise Okuda of "Star Trek" fame) allows you to access info on aspects of the film during playback.
Historical Documents: The Story of 'Galaxy Quest' (480p, 18:13) features cast & crew talk about the film, the "Star Trek" and sci-fi influences (in reality & as entertainment) that influenced the film both as "parody" & "homage," etc.
Never Give Up, Never Surrender: The Intrepid Crew of the NSEA 'Protector' (480p, 23:27): Cast & crew interviews regarding their performance & their characters.
By Grabthar's Hammer, What Amazing Effects (480p, 7:02) A quick look at the makeup, sets & effects.
Alien School: Creating the Thermian Race (480p, 5:22) A briefing on the Thermians & the actors.
Actors in Space (480p, 6:09), a fun short focusing on the cast portrayals of stereotypical actors
Sigourney Weaver Raps (480p, 1:59): Yes, she performs a rap song with a couple of her co-stars...
Also, a collection of eight deleted scenes (480p, varied runtimes), a Thermian language audio track - try setting this up prior to a group viewing, with English subtitles turned on - it's fun - for a bit anyway. ;)
Lastly, and the film's theatrical trailer (1080p, 1:55).

Fun Sci-fi Spoof

I love this movie. It is really fun and funny, especially if you are a sci-fi fan. It follows the story of a group of actors who had their 5 minutes of fame on a sci-fi TV show in the 80s (think Star Trek), but now they are all struggling to hold onto their fame. At a convention, the Captain (Tim Allen) is approached by real aliens who recruit him and his crew to fly to their ship which is designed exactly as the fictional ship from the TV show, because he and his crew are their greatest inspiration. The alien society is being obliterated by an evil mastermind alien and they want the crew to help negotiate with him. Of course, being a spoof starring Tim Allen, bad things happen. Also has Tony Shaloub of Monk fame and Alan Rickman aka Severus Snape.
If you love sci-fi, especially Star Trek, please see this movie. Watch it over and over, because it is always funny. And, of course, Never Give Up, Never Surrender!
