I got this about a month ago. Using all the functions that it has to offer and I'm blown away. The design, quality, style and ruggedness are top notch. UI is very friendly and easy to navigate. I had Suunto Ambit, but now that feels like prehistoric to me. Things that I love most: 1. Smartphone notification 2. Step count (motivate you to move) 3. Vibration feature 4. Music control 5. Different downloadable watch beside built in ones. 6. 100M waterproof. 7. Smartphone app 8. Navigation and other fitness apps. 9.Wifi and Bluetooth 10. Garmin VIRB camera controls. 11. Can use different ANT+ devices. There are some things that could use a little more improvements i.e. like a lot more apps from GARMIN IQ. I have the regular black version (not the sapphire) and it's very rugged. I really don't see the reason for the Sapphire edition unless you're into metal bands.

I spent about two months looking for the right watch. A major concern I had was having to charge the battery every day. I definitely did not want to charge every day. I love how the watch is customizable to my needs. I charge the watch about once a week. It's a fast charge too. Only takes a couple of hours. Was absolutely the best purchase I have made so far. This is my third and last smart watch!!!

The Garmin Fenix 3 is an excellent device! No issues whatsoever with GPS, activity tracking, or any other function. Battery life is awesome. It is worth the cost.

Very nice product. The heat monitor is a separate belt attached around chest makes it inconvenient to use.

This works just as I would have expected. It's a great watch for runners. The external heart rate monitor is very accurate.

I've been wanting to get a fitness watch for a while, and finally splurged on the Fenix 3 Sapphire. I went with the Sapphire because being in the military, I'm pretty hard on my watches. And after looking up what sapphire glass is used for, I was sold. I haven't regretted the decision one second. The watch is very rugged, and has held up well. The GPS is fantastic. It has an UltraTrac mode that will prolong battery life, but your routes will not be as precise. You can turn it on and off as needed. For running, it gives you all the data you would need at a glance, automatically turns laps at your choosing, and can even give you a "ghost" runner to compete against. I've also used it for hiking and kayaking so far. The amount of data this watch collects is just unreal. As for the kayaking, I set up my own event to capture the data I want the most. It was a bit of a learning curve learning about the data fields and such, but there is wealth of info online to help you with this. It also has a step counter on it, which will remind you when you've been sitting too long, and helps you to be more active. Paired with the Garmin Connect app, it lets you compete against other people on the app in step challenges, as well as letting you connect with friends to share your activities. You do not have to have your phone with you during your activities, as it will sync with your phone and dump all the data to it when you open the app. There is also a feature that will let your friends follow your activity in real time if you so choose. The smart phone notifications are something I have become dependent on. I no longer have to take my phone out of my pocket to see my texts or emails, see who's calling, etc. You can set what notifications are sent to your watch as well. The battery holds up really well. I can go several days between charges on average days. When I use it on a long kayak trip, I charge it the night before, and I will charge it the night after just to be safe. There are several watch faces I have downloaded, and I like those that give me a percentage of battery left, rather than a bar graph. I have yet to even come close to the battery going dead. I haven't used the metal band that has come with it. I need to take some links out, and just haven't gotten around to it. The polymer band is excellent. The little loop that retains the excess strap is well thought out, and keeps the excess secured during all of my activities. The price tag on this watch is up there, but is well worth it, if it's something you will use. It takes some reading, and a little trial and error, to get the full use. I wear this watch every day, all day. I've owned it for about 3 months now, and it took the place of my MTM Spec Ops Falcon.
