Scale woudn’t connect to the Internet

First, it requires an ‘ANT Stick’ that must be bought separately. (BestBuy doesn’t sell these, so I bought two from GPS4US, each for half the Garmin price.) The scale talked to my computer (through the ANT Stick) but could not connect to my WLAN and connect to the Internet. (I carefully checked the password several times, uninstalled and reinstalled the relevant app, rebooted my computer, and the scale still never worked.) I returned it, and for a bit more money, bought a Withings (Nokia) scale that worked perfectly and required no additional components. I still like Garmin products. Either Garmin QC/QA needs to improve, or the scales and their packaging need to be more robust to shipping and handling problems. I assume that this failure is a one-off, but I cannot recommend it from my experience with it. I do not understand the reason a scale has to connect to the Internet anyway, but all the current ones apparently do.

The Index Smart Scale could be set up using the Garmin Connect Mobile app on a smartphone. Not so much. It's nothing more than a $165 paperweight (the price I bought it for, as opposed to the $150 it is now). When it would connect, it was inaccurate to say the least. On the scale itself it said my weight was 213, but when it would sync to the Connect app, it would say that same weigh-in was 236 (this happened multiple times, but this was just one example). Most recently it has quit connecting to the app, or even the wifi. When I follow the steps to get it to reconnect...it says "device not found." I've tried nine ways to Sunday, and it won't do anything. Garmin knocks it out of the park on watches and GPS's, but I'm thinking scales are not really their forte.

Good Scale with a Terrible App

I am a very technical person, so fiddling with such a thing is something I will not do. I returned it for the Withings Scale and am much happier.

I went to Best Buy and picked up the scale thinking it would be great to help track muscle mass and weight. The instructions for setup and lackluster (a single page of push here and then use the app). I could not get the scale fully logged in at all. It kept displaying the setup required screen. The system has issues transmitting to the server and it does not directly connect to your phone. This creates a serious lag out when tracking daily weights. Their support on the website was non-existent. Once I knew where to look, I found plenty of reviews stating the same types of problems. I ended up returning the scale as it would not do anywhere close to what I needed.

I have had to sync it three times and it looks like it will be for the fourth here now. It looks great but does not seem to want to work all the time.

Doesn't Work

It won't connect to my phone, and all I see is a wrench icon. I had to go online and search for the manual to find out what it means. It says it means "setting up" but my phone says the scale is set up and connected to wifi. TOO much money to have so many headaches out there box.

It just stuck in the setup menu, and didn’t even turn off anymore! it just froze on us, still after several times resetting and removing the battery it won’t setup. It measured only one time my weight, nothing more and there’s no chance to see my data. We tried to call customer service and no one is available. After one hour, we gave up!

Customer service sent me replacement. Still no dice. I know it’s not my Wi-Fi, I have a different scale now that works great. This one doesn’t do it for me. Bummer because I use Garmin Phoenix and would love to be able to use the scale instead of manual input.

We contacted Best Buy and they replaced. When the replacement arrived it was under recording weight. Not by a pound or two, by 15-20 plus.
