Garmin: Doesn't get better

I've been a proud Garmin owner for acouple years now, and I've demode several other units as well as brands, and I must say, Garmin is, hands down, the most user friendly, most accurate GPS on the market.
I have nothing additional to say as everyone ele throughout the reviews has covered the obvious pointers on just why Garmin is the best navigation system. I've owned several Garmin units, and I can say that going from one to the other, I feel like I'm using the same unit because their layouts are all very similar and easy to use. Buy Garmin, don't waste your time or money on anything else. ;-)

GPS my new best friend

I named my Garmin Vanessa and use the British accent. My husband is pleased when he uses it in his car, but he usually knows where he is going. I have very poor direction skills, but I have found new and easier ways to get to my destination. I feel completely confident on back roads. I wish it had some advanced features, but it fit my price range and that was most important at the time. I got a great sale price around the holidays, and I have been using "her" daily for 4 months. I especially love to use her to tell me my arrival time. Even if I know where I am going now, I still plug in my route to keep me on schedule. Thanks

My husband gave this to me as a gift. His car came with a GPS already installed, but my car did not have one. I really never paid that much attention to it and was just fine with printing out maps from Yahoo or Google when I travelled alone. When I got this, I was so surprised at how useful it is. As an example, one day I was in an area that I was not familiar with and I lost one of my eyeglass cases. I decided to see if I could find a place there, instead of waiting until I got near home. I typed eyeglasses and found places that I would not have been able to find otherwise.

Good, but could be better

Before buying my first GPS, I made a lot of research. I wanted to buy a good device, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I was in love with the Garmin 200 since I first saw it. One of the features was my favorite: voice directions with street names (instead of: make a left in "point two miles").
So, when I saw the price in Best Buy during black friday, I ran to the store and bought my Garmin. When I first used it I thought something was wrong with it. No street names announcements. The guy at the store said the advertising co. made a mistake. Bad, bad, bad....
So be aware, NO STREET NAMES ANNOUCEMENTS!!!!

Great so far...

I finally bought this Garmin because it was on sale and I had a coupon. So far it's been great. My husband and I have used it a few times in the city and it gave great and accurate directions.
My only complaint would be it doesn't tell you the street name to turn on, it just says turn in .2 miles, etc... Someone directionally challenged like myself might benefit from having the street name announced. Some of the higher end Garmin do this but I just wasn't willing to pay $100 more for this I guess!
I would also recommend buying the wall charger since the charger it comes with is a car charger.

First GPS

This is my first gps, and I must say, I have studied and compared a few of them before deciding on Garmin. Alot of them have different features not needed for navigating to and from destinations. So the ultimate for me, was price, ability, upgradable, and quality. I've come to find all of that in the Nuvi 200. The final selling point for me was the fact that my buddy has a BMW motorcycle that has Garmin navigation installed from factory. If it's good enough for BMW, it's good enough for me! Definitely pleased with the product and BestBuy's desire to price match.

Don't Leave Home without IT

I recently moved from Iowa to KY (I know, culture shock), and knew nothing about the area. I had given a Garmin to my son-in-law for Xmas, and he raved about it. I brought it with me to KY for my house hunting trip, and found it worked wonders in helping me find such things as my local Wally-Mart, hotel, places to eat, and most of all house hunting.
Since the unit is so small, I can keep it in my center console and pull it out when needed.
I highly recommend this unit to anybody who is thinking about relocating to a new area. "Don't leave home without it"

garmin nuvi 200 - no nonsense GPS

Does exactly what its supposed to do : provide fast accurate directions.
There is no need for mp3 player or any extra stuff in the GPS.
pros:
- best part was I could set the mode to pedestrian or bicycle, load the metro maps and use it in the city for locating metro buses, trains etc
- slim design, so its easy to mount in front of the instrument console or AC vent
- very light, can easily slip in your shirt pocket
- quite accurate, I found it better than my laptop based GPS in terms of speed and accuracy
- battery life was pretty good
cons:
- none

Overall I am very happy with the product. I have only had it a couple of days, but I am very impressed with the accuracy and ease of use. I love the fact that it keeps track of your speed, moving speed avg; speed avg; distance; total trip time; moving time; and stopped time; I also like the fact that you can see the exact coordinates of your location by pressing on the vehicle and then safe the location as a favorite. The screen is a good size and fits perfectly above my rear view mirror (and does not obstruct my view of the road). I would recommend it for the price.

I am enjoying this little thing. It has taken mins off of places I go all the time, taking me through back roads and around all the lights. I plan on using this when I go to New England States this summer, and I will feel safer knowing I have this system at my finger tips. The only thing that has irritated me a bit is that when I have looked for certain POI's they are not there. These places have been there for years, although relatively new. I plan on calling Garmin and asking for an update. Will let you know how that turns out.

GPS was given to me as a gift. I can not travel any where without it! I have traveled to Florida, North Carolina, West Virginia and many long distance destinations right here in Virginia. Every trip I used the Garmin nuvi 200 and every time it got me to my destination with NO errors!
I love the preciseness. I also like the fact that the road/ route you are to follow during navigation is highlighted for visible view. Everyone should have one. I am going to purchase for Christmas gifts for family members!

Awesome Unit

Just started local driving job in major city after only living here one month. This unit is AWESOME! I use it to find 20-30 addresses a day and it's not failed me yet! Even in outlying rural areas. Some of the restaurants aren't updated, but I mainly use it for address locations. The speaking directions make my job super-easy! I can't say enough good about this unit. Worked perfectly right out of the box. Going to get another for the wife's car just for convenience. Highly recommend for any and all travelers!

Garmin has done it again

I've played with both Tom Tom and Garmin, and I have to say, Garmin is down right easy to use and more user friendly than Tom Tom. Garmin does not have the hard to access, specific menu option that you're looking for that in the Tom Tom and instead choice a menu that is understandable and direct without hunting for it. Satellite pickup is fast and re-route is quick and painless. Bright screen, stylish, and loud and clear speaker makes this GPS a bargain. I'll be picking up a few more before Christmas!

I received this GPS as a Christmas present. It is so easy to use. It's great that you can see street crossings on screen, especially when you can't see street signs as well in the dark. I bought the friction mount for the dash board and it works great. I can easily move the unit and it doesn't slide even with sharp turns. The greatest thing is I can use it in my car or my wife's. I purposely missed a turn and the unit recalculated immediately. Love it, Love it. Looking forward to using it on a road trip.

Excellent Buy for the Bucks!

This GPS is an excellent buy for your money. I have used several different GPS devices and this is by far the easiest of the brands to use. Battery charge lasts a long time and the onscreen menus are easy to use. I liked it so much I purchased the same one for my in-laws to use and they love it too! You can charge it at home if you have the correct USB cable, like the ones for Blackberry phones. You will need to download the software from Garmin so you can charge it and update it. Buy it, enjoy it!

Real time and gas saver

I bought this after going to Sacramento and getting lost for the umpteenth time.
The first time I used it, I was taken exactly to where I wanted to go, even when I deliberately took a wrong turn, it re-directed me back quickly and easily without saying "hey dummy you turned wrong" lol.
I like the area where it tells you how long it should take you to get there, and was pretty well acurate with that as well.
It saved me time, gas and much frustration
I would definetly recommend this purchase!!!

Good unit but...

The Nuvi 200 is a great unit, and I have had no problems with it, other than some at times strange directions. My problem is with Garmin customer service. When I downloaded the map update for the unit, it corrupted my computer hard drive. When I ordered the DVD backup copy instead, Garmin never mentioned that Canadian maps would not be installed, even though the DVD label says that they are contained. I now have to buy another update in the form of the SD card. It would have been nice to have been told that originally!

Great system

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
In a nutshell:
- Easy to use right out of the box.
- Touch screen is a blessing. The thumbwheel on the StreetPilots was fine, but the touch screen on these Nuvi's is much faster.
- Even this entry-level unit has a great database of points of interest.
- Excellent volume. Very loud.
- Very compact. Very portable.
- If you have vision issues, opt for a model with a larger screen.
- It would be nice if they supplied a carrying case. You might want to purchase a small, hard-cover case for it.

This is the first GPS we ever bought and we love it. Since purchasing this one we have added two more, but they have been different brands. Our family fights over the nuvi 200 because it is so easy to use. My husband loves it because when he is driving down the road it will show ponds, lakes, and rivers. Even though he isn't able to stop and fish he loves knowing he is close to the water.

Best Purchase!

Best purchase we've made in years! Affordably priced and absolutely changed the way we drive. We don't leave home without it and what a marriage saver. No more fighting about wrong turns or getting out the map and pulling over to decide if we're lost! Went on vacation and just typed in the name of our destination and GO! Love the points of interest and over the Tom Tom, the Nuvi reroutes you if you make a wrong turn, the Tom Tom just keeps trying to get you back on the other route. Great product, highly recommend it.
