I was told that this was what I needed

I was told by an employee this was what I needed. It got programmed to my iPhone and I was happy. Very easy to use. But I had trouble with it. Tried a second one, had trouble with that too, and gave up. I really wanted it to work because it was waterproof and I needed waterproof. I had to go with something else, unfortunately it's not waterproof.

I went from using a Samsung s2 to purchasing this. Maybe I was spoiled from the previous smart watch but it didn't have very good functionality and was difficult to read on my wrist. It was also extremely frustrating responding to and reading text messages and sometimes they wouldn't even open. After 2 days I couldn't take it anymore and took it back.

Needs work on HR and syncing

Was looking for a product that was water proof for that occasional dip and that had continuous and accurate heart rate monitoring. Consistency on all stats was very important since anything other then that was useless to me. So lets start with heart rate. OK for resting (Garmin showing 88 with chest showing 81-83) but once you start moving you get latency. In some case where I do a quick peak and then recovery the Garmin never registers this so that I have to suspect the calories burned are low which for me if it is going to be wrong at least that's the right direction. Steps: It does a very good job on this for me at the normal setting and I did not have to customize it but you do have the option if needed. Where it fails is the sync. I just synced and the app shows 586 steps and the Garmin shows 1921. Multiple syncs while writing this and no change in the app number. More on this later. The screen offers a lot of function (I really think the concept was on target) and is readable but might be a problem if you have weak eyes. The light option for me is almost useless it is so dim. The Fit HR kills it on this. Floors counted is accurate for climbed but descended goes both ways. To be fair this is a very small sample since I have only had the Garmin for three days so I hate to judge it just yet since I might be doing something wrong. Again the sync is a problem with it never being accurate on the first sync, sometimes taking hours to finally show up in the app what I have done to the point of getting the results of my morning stairs finally registered after I have done my lunch run. You would think if anything both would show up at the same time. This seems to be the pattern so far where there is always a delay. I work in a three story building and have started doing sets of stairs at break, lunch and afternoon so I know the exact time and number of the activity. Again the Garmin itself shows the correct number of floors ascended immediately. (As I type this my heart rate on the Garmin has jumped to 106 with an average resting of 49. The chest strap which I have verified as accurate is showing a range of 76-82.) I do find the app useful and really have no issues with it. Where the product fails is the synchronization between it and your phone (Just synced again an steps are showing 586 on app with Garmin still showing 1921 since I have not gotten up.) App shows you when the Last Sync was in the upper right hand corner of the the Snapshots screens so it thinks it is current. I really wanted to like this item but I am starting to wonder if they pushed this out for the holiday buying season when they should have waited. Returning it today and purchasing a Fitbit - Charge HR which is not waterproof but at least seems to be a mature platform. Hope this helps, Ron

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review.

The vívosmart HR requires input over time so it can get to know your movement, average resting heart rate, etc. Although it is recording your heart rate constantly throughout the day, samples are taken more infrequently when you are not active and the sample rate increases when you are more active. Please keep in mind that tattoos, hair, dirt, sweat and other hindrances can affect the accuracy of your heart rate readings. Your total calories burned reflect both active and inactive calories.

In regards to the sync issues you experienced - Garmin Connect underwent scheduled maintenance last week which resulted in residual complications with user data, specifically for those who attempted to sync during the outage. Some of this affected other users and it may explain why your data was not syncing properly. This has been resolved, however we do apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you again for your feedback! -LB Garmin

    Heart monitor didn't work

I bought this specifically for the heart rate monitor, unfortunately it didn't work right. My mom has one as well and I would put hers on and then mine and the rates would be completely off. I wasn't a fan of wearing it either, I have a really small wrist and I didn't find it very comfortable. I ended up taking it back for a refund.

    Best in class!

I have had a number of these fitness trackers and really think this is the best one out there. There are a number of great features that are not listed on best buy's site too. Auto Sleep is a feature not mentioned. If you are actually looking to track your sleep habits this is a must. I have tried using others that require you to put it into sleep mode, but most of the time would just forget, or fall asleep before. Running Mode works just like some of Garmin's more costly watches. In addition to tracking your heart rate during workouts, it will also track your resting heart rate. This is a great way to get a feeling for your overall fitness improvements. Fit file format. So depending on where you want to share your data (strava, training peaks or other traditional fitness/ training program) Garmin's file format is more often compatible with them over other fitness trackers. Overall, I love it!

Too small for me to read without glasses. In walk mode get a constant reminder my heart rate is to low. When I look at my heart rate mode my low for the last three hours is 57. The buzzing every 10 steps drives me nuts. The geek could not demo the sleep mode. So hard to use I can t think of all the things wrong.
