The new model is way too thick and bulky to be worn 24x7. I don't care about the wrist HR sensor. Same thing with the new vivoactive, way too bulky. Garmin, don't copy Fitbit.

    LOVE IT!

After a lot of research - both online and in store- I went with the new Garmen ViovSmart HR band and I LOVE IT! It was hard to find a band that would go beyond steps - I do a lot of yoga and spin - as well as track heart rate and sleep. This one is a winner! The iphone app is fantastic, synching is easy, it's waterproof - so you can wear it in the shower and battery life is great - going on 6 days. I highly recommend! A winner!

I read many of the reviews - and ignored the warnings - shame on me! This thing is a piece of junk. Just spent over 2 hours loading the ap, reading and researching the online manual and can't even get it out of FRENCH! (And there is no help ANYWHERE) to make that happen. It won't pair to a phone nor the computer - FORGET IT! Sure it may be a "lemon" but there is ZERO support! And as for below question - i wouldn't even recommend this to an enemy..OK ~ there is ONE guy...

A person who walked 2,500 steps did NOT burn 8000 calories that day. I've never owned a weight loss band that has done this before. Fitbit and body bug all accurate, but this garmin says an hour after midnight I've burned 500calories laying in bed. waste of money read online reviews they all state even from 2014 that this has been a huge issue. 9000 calories once I reached midnight with 2,000 steps in and three stairs climbed. Waste of money!

Hello Mike, Thank you for taking time to reivew the vivosmart HR. While this device does have a water rating that would allow it to be safely used in the water, it is not designed to track dedicated pool swim activities or track heart rate while swimming. The vivosmart HR will track your heart rate during the day or anytime the timer is running. The device will is not likely to provide accurate heart rate data while swimming due to the water reflecting the light from the sensor. The vivosmart HR does have a MoveIQ feature that can detect a swim event. This is shown on your Timeline in Garmin Connect, but no metrics such as heart rate are recorded. For more information on MoveIQ please use the following Owners Manual link:  https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/vivosmarthr/EN-US/GUID-EB590DE3-6519-42AD-8F73-007950FFEBD8.html. Thank you for taking time to review the vívosmart HR. This device is designed to go about fives days in between charges. You may not get a full five days depending on the backlight or activity settings that you have set up. If you are getting lower than expected battery life, we would recommend that you reduce the backlight level, and perhaps disable the gesture feature, if you are noticing the backlight coming on a lot when you move your arms. We would also recommend that you ensure the software is up to date to ensure that it will track all of your activity metrics correctly. You can use Garmin Express (www.garmin.com/express) on your computer to ensure that the software is up to date. Thanks again for the review. -JFH Garmin

    Solid product...

I previously owned a first generation vivosmart that I brought from Amazon. Returned it within the 30 day window to purchase this. Before that, I owned an introductory pedometer, the jawbone up move. The selling point for me was the improved display as well as the optical hr sensor. I have always worked out with free weights, but I am now looking to also get into cardiovascular fitness as well. The knock on the optical hr sensors is their accuracy, but for what I'm trying to accomplish its sufficient. I find that strapping it snug right above my wrist produces the greatest accuracy. I find it comfortable, and not too bulky. I like that it has a watch style strap, as this makes it feel secure. I don't mind the garmin connect app. It provides what I need. I would like garmin to eventually come out with something similar to jawbones "smart coach" though. The sleep mode identification is good most of the time. Sometimes I have to edit the time I dozed off, not a big deal. Overall I am very happy with the purchase, and I only expect it to improve with each software update...

    Perfect for what I wanted

I was looking for a watch that specifically had a wrist heart rate monitor and would tell me how many calories I burned during my workouts. I was advised to go with Garmin, but I was debating between the Vivosmart HR or the Vivoactive (because of the swimming app). I decided against the Vivoactive because the Vivosmart has the two characteristics I wanted, plus steps, intensity minutes, mileage (but no GPS), and number of flights for a reasonable price. It also has weather and notification abilities, but I turned those off to conserve battery plus I always have my phone. The battery life is great! I can wear it for 4-6 days depending how much I play with it but I found that the only way to see my stats is to sync it with the computer so I end up charging it anyway. The app on my phone does not sync properly whether on wifi or LTE, which is a bummer when you're on the go but something I would like fixed. According to the description it says it is water resistant but DO NOT GET IT WET. Even splashes from washing dishes will cause it to malfunction. Overall I am really happy with this watch and I would definitely recommend it to anyone!
