over all great but one thing....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love mine but the only one thing that i don't like about it and that is where the heart rate scanner sticks out. It doesn't matter how tight or loose you make the strap it hurts after awhile. It does everything that I want it to do and more. I wish there was a case to put it in so that my wrist will stop hurting.

Returned it for now.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think eventually I will like it. It has all the features I want including being waterproof. I had it for 10 days and it would not stay paired with my iPhone 6 plus. I am not sure if the unit I had was defective or what. It was frustrating so I returned it. I step counter seems accurate as well as the stair counter, the heart rate and sleep not so much but those were not the main reason I purchased it. I may give it another try in the spring.

Posted .Thank you for your review. I’m sorry to hear about the sync trouble that you experienced with your vívosmart HR. I would like to take a moment to offer some troubleshooting suggestions that may help you with this issue.
It’s important to ensure that the vívosmart HR, Garmin Connect Mobile, and your iPhone 6 Plus are all up to date. The vívosmart HR can be updated via Garmin Express (j.mp/GRMNXP), and steps on how to do so can be found here: http://bit.ly/1I21mhx. Garmin Connect Mobile can be updated through the iTunes App Store (iTunes App Store > ‘Updates’ > If an update is available, Tap on ‘Update’ next to Garmin Connect Mobile), and the iOS on your iPhone 6 Plus can be updated through iTunes on a computer.
It’s also important to ensure that you’re following the pairing steps as they’re listed here: http://bit.ly/1HUU84d. The vívosmart HR periodically synchronizes data with Garmin Connect Mobile automatically, but instructions on how to manually sync your data at any time can be found here: http://bit.ly/1MESpg0. If syncing issues persist, please visit j.mp/GRMNSupport to contact Garmin Customer Care for additional troubleshooting and assistance.

sync issues with iphone
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am already a Fitbit charge HR user and decided to buy this garmin activity tracker because: it has all of the features the Fitbit Charge HR has plus one very easy to screen and waterproof. but after use it for about a day, I will have to return it because: - the IPhone App as I expected from Garmin is not user friendly at all, I personally feel like it is outdated. I have to dig through menu and sub-menus just to find a way to sync, once I find it, it does not work properly. All I need is a a simple view showing: number of steps, stair taken, heart rate, calories burned...I need no advanced view. - sync issues: the phone and the tracker are connected and never lose any connection, I try to sync from both the The App and the tracker and the message "Completed", appear numerous times but data in the phone and on garmin-connect website is not updated at all.

Do Not Buy for Lap Swimming!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start out by saying, I never leave reviews. If I could give this 0 stars I would. This product upset me so badly I had to set up an account to warn people about this product. I waited months for this product to come out. I'm a diver and a swimmer. I wanted this for lap swimming, which this hr monitor is made for. As many of you know, fit bits are not waterproof. So having something come out like this that doesn't require a chest strap, that has a swimming mode, is a pretty big deal to a swimmer. I waited 3 months for this to come out! I was so excited. It even has a swimming mode! To my surprise, the first workout was not accurate at all. I swam 1.5 miles and it stated I swam 500 yards. The second workout I took it on, it died completely after swimming 50 yards. For those of you who are not fimiluar with pool measurements, that's up and back the pool once. That's it! That night I charged it, and then it would not sync back up the next day. After trying about 20 times to get it to sync to my iPhone 6s, and comparing it to my husbands, (he just uses his as a pedometer. He doesn't have to work out) which hasn't had any issues, I threw up my hands and took it back to Best Buy. It's a paper weight if it won't sync up. It also, after charging all night, claimed the battery was still low. I had issues one day before where it wouldn't sync up but it reset itself. It always did it after updating and charging which mine had to do every other day. Best Buy was good about it, and swapped it for a different one. After getting the new one, and charging it all day, getting it synced to the phone, to the old ones settings, and making sure it will sync/work, so I could go to the gym, anytime you get to the notifications screen it shuts the garmin down completely. I tried over and over to get it to clear the notifications and to stay on, but it kept shutting off. I hadn't had this one more than 10 hours. It hadn't ever been through a work out. I was two for two. I took that one back and got my money back. I'm done with it. For 150$ these should not be so problematic. I'm going back to my Polar FT60 and will use the chest strap while swimming, and will just go without a pedometer. I'll just have to use my foot pod. I wanted to like this product more than anything. The options and everything this watch offers is great. However it's pretty useless if it only works for one workout or doesn't work at all out of the box. i'm beyond disappointed. For a company that makes such high end triathlete gear for swimmers, they should have this stuff down by now. They really don't have any excuse. I've used some of their other products. It's like someone tried to stuff too much into too small of a package or just gave up on this one. The connect app is not user friendly either. Oh and if you want to use a different app other than myfitnesspal garmin will not help you sync it with the app even though they have a 3rd party app tab. The myfitnesspal wants a 10$ monthly membership upgrade where there are many free apps that are so much better than it for the same features that are standard. I tried to get customer service to help and they said they couldn't because they're not "affiliated with them". I will never buy a Garmin product again. Ever...save you money, time, energy, and keep your blood pressure low. Skip this one and wait for the next model or wait for a waterproof Fitbit. Or check out the finis swimming watch if looking for a swimming aid. I may just go that route.

Posted .Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review of the vívosmart HR. I'd like to address some of the concerns you raised.
While the vívosmart does have a water resistance rating of 5ATM, it is not designed to measure lap swimming. As such, the distance recorded during a swim won't be reflective of what you actually swam. If you need a device that will accurately measure laps, we recommend using the Garmin Swim, fēnix 3, or Forerunner 920XT.
With regard to the aps, please note that each 3rd party has their own method for syncing to Garmin Connect Mobile. Because they manage that connection, it's always best to go through that partner to ensure you're following the steps as they designed them. You can find a comprehensive list of all our third-party fitness site/app partners here: http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId=%7bc0123c00-1e8d-11e4-eaba-000000000000%7d&kbName=garmin
As far as MyFitnessPal is concerned, please note that while they do have a premium version, Garmin Connect Mobile does not require the premium version to sync with MFP. All of the features Garmin Connect Mobile utilizes can be used in the free version of MFP.
For any other issues or concerns, I highly recommend reaching out to our tech support team for help resolving them. You can find the contact info and hours for product support here: http://www.garmin.com/us/support/contact

Great fitness tracker
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Garmin after reading several reviews and talking with fitness experts. I do the bulk of my training in the pool, walking or in the gym. I wear my Garmin through all of it and live it. I also wanted to track my sleep quality and quantity. This watch does both things well. I pair it with Fitness Pal and find both are easy to use.

HR disappointing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very disappointed in the heart rate monitor. It might work if you are thin and don't sweat, but I'm neither. While doing a 20+ mile bike ride, the monitor numbers bounced all over the place. At one point, it read 69 bpm. My resting heart rate isn't even that low. I really wish Garmin had opted for electronic contacts for the monitor instead of optical. Optical has proven for years that it's innacurate. Sorry Garmin. Long time fan and user (5+ variety of devices), but this device misses the mark.

Good as activity tracker; poor heart rate monitor
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really excited to have a heart rate monitor without a chest strap and the reviews I looked at suggested that Vivosmart HR might allow me to discard the strap. However it did not cut it. I got it for the heart rate monitor for my athletic work outs; strength training, biking and running. I was not interested in the activity tracker functions. It seemed to do the latter fine, however the heart rate monitor during regular activity was sluggish and did not always accurately measure my HR. The instruction in the on-line manual did not help. I did do a head-to-head test of the Garmin FR70 with the HRM chest strap to the Vivosmart HR during a strength training workout which involved a strenuous upper and lower body workout. I wore both watches on my left arm. The results were clear; while the FR70 did its usual gold standard job in measuring my HR, the Vivosmart HR was all over the place with HRs that seemed to be highly depending on the position and activity of my arms. My average and maximum heart rate with the FR70 were 109 and 148, respectively; my usual during a strength training work out. The respective numbers for the Vivosmart HR were 126 and 170. The pattern of my HR on the Garmin Connect site from the FR70 was smooth and had the expected exercise-dependent accelerations and decelerations, while the Vivosmart HR was very erratic and stacccato. I am glad i gave the Vivosmart HR a try, but it is not ready to replace a chest strap monitoring system yet. On its way back.

Great activity tracker
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only downside to the product is that my wristband broke after just three days - mind you I only took it on and off twice and it broke the second time just simply putting it on. I love the fact that there is an alarm feature and phone notification along with the rest of the standard activity tracker things.

Great Tracker
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had previous fitness trackers before owning this one. I love the features and wear ability of the Garmin Viviosmart HR. The step count is very accurate. I also like the use and ease of the Garmin Connect app. There are few flaws, I am a big girl and the band just fits my wrist so a larger standard band would be nice. Also the step/elevation count is usually off on my tracker. I have walked up several steps for various height buildings and it doesn't track it but it will track elevation if I am in my car driving up a steep hill. Overall I love the tracker and I love the waterproof feature so It's great for swimming as well!

Not reliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this a month. All was going exceedingly well, until last week. It stopped recording activity minutes at all. Plus, the heart rate during activities registers 70/71 BPM. I do the same workout, and it had always read 150-165 BPM. The machine I was using registered 150-165 BPM. Did some searching online, and many others were having similar issues. If it's not tracking activity minutes or measuring heart rate accurately, then I'm not sure the purpose. I was great. After 3-4 weeks, not so much. Pros: well built, solid device. I like the user interface. Cons: unreliable, bulky, ugly, ridiculous charger connection.

Garmin is great, but made a huge mistake w/BestBuy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the second time writing a review for this product. They seem to be removed if its negative. Love Garmin Products. I have been a loyal Garmin user, running watches and Navigation, since 2006. They are great at what they do, and the quality shows. But only allowing BestBuy to sell your products is a mistake. I havent gone to BestBuy since High School, before 2001. I searched everywhere in BestBuy store for this watch, but it was no where to be found. I finally asked for help, and it took 15 minutes for someone to finally showed up. When they did, they didnt know this product. I had to show them a picture on my cell, and they didnt even know if they carried it. Which BestBuy website showed them having the model and color I wanted (by the end the color wouldnt matter). Well after they searched for it on the database, and found out that they did carry it. They werent sure where it was located. We looked at 3 different locked cabinet and finally found Vivosmart HR. "Wow, we actually carry them" was the employees remarks. *Note, to get this product you have to go to BestBuy, but it's not even being displayed in the store. Might as well only make it available online, AMAZON! We didnt find purple. They had to verify it was in the store, and it was. We searched again. Finally found it. 45 minutes of wasted time. The BestBuy manager, and assistant couldnt help me with anything about this product. Garmin - Why use BestBuy, anyone that is really tech savy will know how to purchase this product online. You have to go online to view information about this product, and know its being exclusively being sold at BestBuy. So why? Why waste my time, a value user of your products. Why? BestBuy - if you are the only one selling this product. Make your representatives aware of the product, and make sure its being displayed properly. Or else just tell Gamin you can't adequately sell their product. --- Regarding my first impressions on the Vivosmart HR. Excellent display, easy to use (learn), and stylish. I will review it more once I have time to use it.

Overall happy, but needs some polishing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third fitness tracker after a Fitbit and Polar Loop. The prices are all similar but the Garmin offers so much more and I find it to be more reliable (besides sleep tracking which the Loop was better with). The HR monitor is spot on every time I've compared it with the Dr's office. The app has never provided full info for me but is sufficient in its recording. Unfortunately, after 6 months normal use, the wristband stabilizing fop broke - Garmin replaced it "one time free of charge" - which means in another 6 months it'll be time to move on to something built stronger.

Intensity Tracker Recommendation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, I really like my VivoSmart HR. My only issue is how it tracks when I play hockey. I think there is a correlation between steps taken and HR in order to get credit for intensity minutes. I will skate for 45-60 minutes and have an average HR of around 125 with a Max HR of around 180 and not get any credit. It will also only say I traveled a distance of less than 1/4 of a mile. It also does not measure distance that well when on a treadmill or an elliptical (I don't use the handle bars) I had a UP2 before and during hockey would get credit for anywhere from 2000-3000 steps. I do love some of the other features. It would great if Garmin could improve their accelerator algorithms to match movement in other sports.

Bad product, good product positioning
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good: 1. Price point: Best price positioning at 150 bucks, not as high as iWatch or as low as basic Fitbit 2. Great product positioning: HR, Sleep monitoring, steps, GPS, smart watch features etc., you cannot beat the features packed in this device. It is not a smart phone, it is a fitness device. Hence it does not confuse user with variety of screen faces, zillion accessories etc. 3. Just the right size of display Bad: 1. Usability (Garmin should fix this asap with firmware upgrade): (a) alarm cannot be setup directly on the device, you can to set up in app and sync up. (b) it takes multiple times to sync the device with phone (c) the run mode is basic (d) 2. Inaccurate: step count is always inaccurate 3. Cannot change the wrist band: Once you bought a device, if the band gets damaged, you have to buy a new device 4. Susceptible to damages: the band is not protected by metallic bars like Microsoft band 2 or Polar. 5. Low battery life: only lasts 2 days, that too without bluetooth on. Garmin can easily fix the usability issue and increase the productivity out of the device.

Posted .Thank you for your honest feedback.
With regard to step count accuracy, it's important to note that as any wrist-worn step tracker, longer periods of repetitive arm movements (e.g., assembly line work, vacuuming, etc...) will often register as steps. Likewise, activities where your arms are usually stationary while walking (pushing a shopping cart, walking while carrying something, etc...) will result in fewer steps tracked.
This is something to consider for any wrist-based step counter/activity tracker.
As for the band, please note that if the band becomes damaged you should reach out to our tech support team before purchasing a new watch outright. Some damage may be covered under the vívosmart HR's warranty, so discuss the specifics with support. Even non-warranty claims would allow for the replacement of the device at a cost much lower than buying a brand new product. Support's contact info and hours are located here: www.garmin.com/support
A 2-day battery life on the vívosmart HR even without Bluetooth usage seems a bit low. Other things that can factor into battery consumption would be backlight usage, broadcasting your heart rate from the vívosmart HR to another device, and having heart rate enabled in general. Adjusting these settings can improve battery life. The max life you will see out of a charge is about 5 days, but charging via your computer or an AC adapter should replenish the battery in two hours or less!
Thanks also for the usability feedback. Other users should check our compatibility FAQ to ensure that their mobile phone is compatible with the vívosmart HR: www.garmin.com/ble
Your suggestion for the alarm adjustment is a good one and I'd recommend submitting it formally through our ideas portal here: www.garmin.com/ideas

What to expect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have had a Vivofit 2 since May 2015, decided to try the HR. Keeping a charge is horrible (2 days) with just wearing it. Seemed pretty accurate, wanted for the Heart Rate feature. But charging every 2 days no way. No problem with getting weather data like some say. Taking it back to Best Buy, maybe I received a lemon. Have only had it since 12-25-15, today's date 1-13-16.
