    Love it!

I love that it vibrates when it displays text messages & also gives you notifications of phone calls. You can quickly glance at it when in situations where you can't grab your phone. It tracks activities and sleep, sets achievable goals and seems to be pretty accurate. The app allows you to track even more. The only negatives are that you need to enter the time you actually go to bed and wake up and sometimes it bothers my wrist if I wear it a lot so I need to take it off.

    One of the best

After reading many reviews I bought a jawbone Up3, only to return it to get the Vivosmart Hr. The main reason it is water proof not just resistant, but it also has a screen something I found lacking in the Up3. I have now purchased a Jawbone Up2, and wear the Vivosmart HR & Up2 together. The reason...the Vivosmart is a superior piece of tech with great features , but the Jawbone app and cross platform integration are great. Together they cost less than the fitbit blaze, but offer much more!

I exchanged a jawbone up 3 for this band and absolutely do not regret it. The heart rate tracker is super accurate and I love all the added features. Battery life is a huge plus too. Would definitely buy again.

    Best Available Right Now

Best health tracking "watch" available right now. Garmin tends to make better products than fitbit and they are easier to configure and use now matter which product you use (and I own virtually all of both lines). Notifications can get a little annoying if you get a lot but you can turn that off. You can also program it for custom workouts/activities which is nice. The heart rate monitor is the best right now (reliability) without having to wear one of the annoying bands.

    Doesn't Stay Paired

The unit has promise and the HR monitor is accurate most of the time. Unfortunately, the device like's to unpair itself from my HTC One M8 phone several times per week and I have to remove it and go through the whole pairing exercise again. Paring the device wasn't the exercise I wanted to track.

    Excellent for this beginner

I bought two of these, one for me and one for my husband. Neither of us have had an activity tracker before. So far after about a week, it's excellent. Ease of use is great. Loving how it keeps me motivated to keep getting more and more steps in (by viewing the display often, but also with it prompting me to "Move!"), very important for someone who's older and admittedly out of shape. The only thing I might be concerned about is using it in a pool for an aquacize class. It says it's rated for water resistance up to more than 160 feet, so I'm assuming it will be like my old water-resistant watch, but I'm nervous. Has anyone tested it who could allay my fears? TIA!

    Doesn't really do anything well

I was contemplating between this and the charge HR. I have an iPhone and liked that you could get smartphone alerts and that it was waterproof. Fit - it's not very comfortable at all, the ideal place to wear it for heart rate is above your wrist bone, so if you're active and sweat even a little, it will fall to your wrist - this got annoying rather quickly. The heart rate was +/- a few BPM at resting heart rate but as you get more active, the more unreliable this tracking became - combine that with the wearable continually sliding up and down your wrist and it renders the HR function all but useless. The smartphone notifications were sporadic and hard to read. The music playing functionality only works with the native iTunes app - no third part support for spotify or the like. For being a new best buy exclusive product with no real reviews - literally no employees at the store had a clue what it did or how it compared to other products. Wearables are getting there but are still very far off.

Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with this product!

Please be aware that the vívosmart HR is not 100% waterproof. It has a water rating of 5 ATM, which means it can withstand pressures up to the equivalent of a depth of 50 meters. Please see the following link for more information: https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7Bb60ebc00-4cdb-11dc-4733-000000000000%7D

Although recommended to be worn above your wrist bone, it can be securely fastened elsewhere on your wrist (it can even be worn on the inside of your wrist). Give it a try and let the data reflect the reliability of that particular position. If you'd like to wear it where recommended, it may be necessary to tighten the wristband. If the device is sliding up and down your wrist, the accuracy of the heart rate readings will most certainly be affected.

Smartphone notifications are controlled by the notification center in your iPhone settings. Unfortunately the screen size/resolution cannot be altered, however you can adjust the orientation of the screen from your Garmin Connect account.

The music player feature allows you to control the default music player on your phone, which in the case of the iPhone, is their native Music app. This differs on other platforms such as Android, where you can select the default music player for your phone.

If you have any questions regarding the functionality of the vívosmart HR, please contact us via http://www.garmin.com/us/support/ and we'll be happy to address them.

Thank you again for your valuable feedback! -LB Garmin

I researched this product for weeks on you tube and read any review I could find and no one ever talked about the problems I am having with this item. There are good things about this product. The band is comfortable and it is waterproof. Also the heart rate monitor is pretty accurate. Now the items that did not work properly. The steps were not very accurate and It would show that I took a lot more steps on an average day than my Fitbit. The notifications were an awesome feature when they worked properly. For some reason some texts would show and others would not. Some phone calls would show up and others wouldn't. The music controls would work and then if I scrolled to another reading they would no longer work my music again until I did an complete reset on the vivosmart. The weather would not show up at all. When it did appear it would show the weather rarely or it would give me an error message. I contacted garmin about my issue and all they told me to do is reset the vivosmart. I am currently using it with an iPhone 5 with all current updates. I thought it may be a defective unit so I exchanged it and had all the same problems. This unit will be going back to the store ASAP.

So far I like it however it may have to go back. I purchased it on Thursday night, set it up and starting wearing it. I take it off to shower and get ready in order for it to stay clean. Today is Saturday morning and a rash has started on my wrist at the site of the heart monitor and under my wrist at the band. It is to the point I am going to have to remove it for a few days for the rash to go away it is painful at the site of the heart rate monitor. Hope it does not persist as I really do like it.

    Good but HR is lacking

This is a nice activity tracker. The only tracker that I had before was the Vivofit 1. I bought this model because of the HR function. Unfortunately, the sensor is not very accurate. I saw previous posts here where there are tips regarding HR accuracy. I applied each tip, but accuracy is still off. Customer support was very polite (answered on the second ring!), but told me to wait a week and if I am still experiencing issues, to call them back. Not too excited about my purchase at this point.

    Don't expect too much

I bought this with great hopes that it would be somewhat close in its ability to monitor heart rate. It does a good job and is within 4 bpm or so of actual heart rate "When it Works". I have found that when you are working out it works about 30% of the time. The problem is not only can you not see what your actual HR is (it will show something way low like 74 when you have been lifting or working out hard) the Intensity Minutes which is one of the things it tracks doesn't work because it requires it to be able to monitor HR along with movement to come up with it's calculation for how many intensity minutes you did. Very disappointed to say the least. I do like however the notifications it displays from your smart phone. The display is easy to read and seems to be pretty accurate on steps tracking. Thing is there are a ton of other activity trackers out there that are way cheaper that will track your steps. I bought it for the HR monitoring and it has failed to work consistently. I have wore it tight, loose, on top of my wrist (like it should be worn) even on the bottom side of my wrist and nothing seems to make it work consistently. The manual says to wear it up and away from your wrist bone which i have done and it doesn't seem to help. Maybe it is just a defective model and others are not having the same issue. I hope that is the case but for me it just doesn't work as advertised.

The tracker itself is great. All the features work well, fits nice on my wrist and is very comfortable. The first day i wore this to the gym i must have bumped something and got a crack on the the screen. Now i dont even recall hitting the garmin on anything so it couldnt have been all that forceful. While everything still works on it, im sure the crack is only going to get worse and finally fail.

    Screen issues

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I like the app and the options heart rate monitor, sleep tracker, timer, smart notifications and others. The only issues are the screen is so hard to see at times , even with back light set high, it depends on the lighting. I have had Vivosmart HR 3 days and noticed there is a chip on screen, I have no idea how it got there. The watch is bulky for a female. The HR monitor causes a slight pressure on wrist that after time can be uncomfortable even when loosened. Debating on returning, I returned a Fitbit Alta to get this based on a recommendation. If they know the screen is not durable they should include a screen protector. It is made for athletes.

    Vibration very weak, otherwise OK

If you're counting on your smartwatch notifying you of calls and texts, this is NOT the right one for you. My wife keeps her phone in her purse and often misses calls, so I bought a VivoSmart HR for her, paired it with her phone, put it on her wrist, and then over a couple of days called her 10 times. I went right to voice mail 9 times -- the call showed up on the screen, but she said she felt nothing. Then I asked her to sit quietly, not move or breathe, and concentrate on whether she felt anything on her wrist. I called her a 10th time, and she said she felt a tiny shake. I searched the documentation and Googled, but found no option for increasing the vibration intensity. Bottom line: if you move or breathe, don't expect this watch to notify you of calls.

Wanted to love this, but ended up returning

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I wanted to love this, I really did. I thought I would be at an advantage purchasing this over a Fitbit Charge HR because this one is waterproof, but unfortunately, this just didn't live up to the test. I bought it last week. From day one, I had problems with the tracking and syncing, but figured it was just a fluke that would work itself out. Today is the 9th day I've had the product, and it was returned to Best Buy at lunch. The device never properly synced up my sleep. I had to manually enter my sleep time in every night which defeats the purpose of having a sleep monitor. In addition, the last few days when I tried to sync it to the Connect app, all I got was "device failed". It consistently kept telling me the bluetooth feature was off even though when I went to the settings it said it was connected. And finally, every time I would get a notification and try to open it on my device, the device powered off and restarted, which got very annoying. Maybe if Garmin updates their software this product will work better, but for now... this is too premature, and I would not recommend this product. I am now debating over purchasing the Fitbit, getting a Jawbone UP 3, or getting a Microsoft Band 1.

During the time you mentioned seeing an error message, I know we were conducting maintenance on Garmin Connect. However, you mentioned issues syncing before that, so that wouldn't account for all your troubles.

One thing that may have caused syncing hiccups could have been phone incompatibility. You can view a full list of Android and Apple phones that are compatible with our Bluetooth Smart products (like the vívosmart HR) here: garmin.com/bluetoothsmart

Purchased it and with in 4hrs was on the phone with customer service, Was getting notifications from last week and they were no help with the problem and i continued to get the same notifications. Their "fix" was to turn off the notifications!!! The display is terribly hard to see. Impossible to see in the dark. Can make it "brighter" but it looked the same to me. The font is small and hard to read. I ended up taking it back to Best Buy and getting the first generation Microsoft fitness band and LOVE it. Display is perfect to see at night and in the day.
