Good HR monitor
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Probably the best optical HR monitor on the market. It is comfortable to wear and gives the best data. Still has a little bit of bigs to get out, but that is for all HR monitors that don't require a strap. I'll definitely keep using

Great deal on a versatile fitness tracker
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife got one of these and it was only a matter of a few days before we went back to get me one. Our decision was between this and the Fitbit Charge HR. This product won out and its versatility and synchronization with the Garmin app have been great. Pro: Watchband style wrist strap, notifications pushed to wrist Con: Cannot add third party widgets to display.

Don't waste your money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased my Vivosmart HR on Black Friday 2016 and at first it seemed to be nearly perfect. The initial drawbacks are mainly the size and that the HR monitor sticks out so far. I have 4.5inch wrists so the band sticks out over my wrists on both sides which is kind of annoying but the HR moniter is what's the main problem. Because it sticks out so far it presses into my wrist and causes shooting pains. I keep it super loose but it's just the design and won't be stopped. Other than that it seemed perfect at the beginning. However, it's now only 4 months old and I'm fed up with it. The consistency and accuracy of the HR moniter has slowly gone down hill in that time. Sometimes it takes nearly 5mins for it to get an accurate reading and today isn't the first time I've found myself screaming profanities at it before I have to stop my workout around 10mins in to restart my watch. Today I was literally dripping sweat, panting, and feeling my heart rate pound through my body but the monitor was saying "88-95" range and even dropping down to "45"! That's absolutely unacceptable for a device that's main purpose is fitness! Upon restarting it the reading promptly jumped to "175" and that was after standing still for over 30 secs waiting for it to get back up. I'm grateful that it started working, however this shouldn't be a problem for a device that's not even 6months old. I paid for a working product and that's exactly what I should receive. This has become a regular problem too, happening almost every workout now. I'm replacing it with a different brand as soon as I can and I won't buy another Garmin product again. The only reason it got 3 stars is because it has an incredibly easy interface and if you can get it super cheap then it could be a great starter watch to help you decide if you want something better but I wouldn't spend more than $50-$60 on it because you're going to want to replace it within a few months or you're going to realize you don't want/need one anymore. I'm also unable to sleep with it on anymore because I wake up with that wrist aching and with shooting pains so the sleep monitor is useless to me now. But it is still helping me hit my goals and loose weight, albeit with frustration and profanities.

Great product but not the band design
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought my Garmin in 1/2016 and have loved it. The band has now broken and there is no easy way to replace it which I consider a serious design flaw. You have to send to Garmin and they will replace for $89 - which is outrageous. A brand new Garmin is $109. It will definitely affect me buying their product as a replacement. Buyer beware. I would recommend it for the features but not for the hardiness or ease of replacement of the band.

Hard On the Eyes
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Vivosmart worked beautifully, however the screen is really dark and the font is really small especially on the Smart Phone notifications. These notifications were one of the main reasons I purchased this product so I was very disappointed that I couldn't see the screen very well. I was constantly trying to angle the product in just the right light to be able to see it. Unfortunately I returned it and will go on the hunt again.

When it works, it's great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this device on Monday (2/1/16) and the first 2 days were EXCELLENT. However, since I wore it to the gym for the first time last night, it has not worked properly. The move bar will not reset no matter how many time I get up and walk around my building. The heart rate monitor kept my heart rate at a decidedly wrong 72 bpm for an hours cardio workout. Since leaving the gym last night, my vivosmart HR has not gotten a single notification from my iPhone (even after restarting both devices). I'm trying to re-pair it with my phone and it is not working at all. I will be returning this for a product that doesn't fizzle out after 2 days.

Need more and more and more improvement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very execiting when I saw Garmin announced this. Turn out I returned it 10 days later. I have been using activity trackers since Nike band, xiaomi band, Fitbit Charge HR and Vivosmart HR. Vivosmart HR seem like everything you asked has been pack in there. Water proof, idle alert, steps, active calories, sleep count, .... Your named it. As someone mention above, heart rate sensor is a big problem. I have 3 days in a row my resting heart rate under 45. No way this to be true even a professional althelte not able to get to this low. Then at a 2 hours cardio training, my heart rate got bump to 190 at some points (not one points) when my max should be around 165. Second problem is step count. In the same 2 hours intense cardio training (most are sprint and running) with an ex-national team members, I drank 4 bottles 33Oz water and the device gave me roughly 7000 steps..... Really? I train twice week and It happens on all my training. So, it you are looking for 10k steps a day, good luck. Third problem, within 10 days of use, I was unable to sync data to the app and find out Garmin server down. When it came back up (2 days later), I was unable to see my steps detail. I went on forum and ask question, my question even got delete by mod. I don't know if they are Garmin employees. Enough rant, here are some positive future: hand up the idle alert. I love it. This is the reason I buy this and let go my Fitbit Charge HR but I am wearing my Charge HR now. Notification alert: you got email, phone call and text message event from 3rd party app. Sleep Analyst is another plus. Overall, Vivosmart HR failed on the features that it should have done it correctly no matter what. So, it went back to Best Buy yesterday.

Posted .Thank you for your review. I’m sorry to hear about the heart rate and step troubles that you experienced with your vívosmart HR. Although you already returned your device, I would like to address some of the concerns brought up in your review.
The optical heart rate sensor on the vívosmart HR uses light to penetrate the skin and estimate your heart rate. To ensure that you’re getting the best heart rate accuracy, please follow these guidelines:
- Ensure that your wrist is clean and dry.
- Ensure that the watch is snug fit.
- Wear the watch on the outside of your wrist, away from your wrist bone.
- Avoid wearing the watch over dark tattoos.
- Ensure the green lights on the watch are functioning.
Keeping the device software up to date is important as well, as updates are released periodically to improve the watch’s functionality. Software updates can be done through Garmin Express, which can be downloaded here: j.mp/GRMNXP.
With regard to the step inaccuracies that you experienced, this FAQ may assist you: http://bit.ly/1vHEFYc. It explains how Garmin Activity Trackers (such as the vívosmart HR) have sensors that are designed to detect natural movement like walking or running. And as far as our servers are concerned, we did experience a bit of a hiccup which affected step detail that has since been resolved.
If you ever have any questions or concerns about your vívosmart HR, please visit http://www.garmin.com/us/support/ to contact Garmin Customer Care for assistance. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to write your review. (KS)

Does not make coffee
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This gadget does just about everything that you expect with a tracker. I find the HR monitor to be consistent. The app is good but not as great as Fitbits. However, I believe the technology is better with the Garmin for the device.

HR very sporatic
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very excited to purchase this device today but I have to say I am very disappointed with the hr monitoring feature. It seems to have a hard time finding my hr. I have tried moving it around, other wrist, tightening and loosening the band but no luck. So let me use a competitor device which has been rock solid so far with tracking hr. I love the look, the fit and all the other features and have owned other garmin devices but this is a deal breaker for me.

Don't waste your money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this as a gift. I found it to be very inaccurate at recording distance despite trying to set a custom step length. I walk a 4.5 mile route and the Garmin records it as less than 2 miles. It also does not count stairs climbed. I cleaned the barometric sensor as recommended by Garmin and still no luck. It also doesn't record length of time exercising accurately. I walk for a little over an hour and I'm lucky if it records 30 minutes. I do think that the heart rate monitor is fairly accurate though. Because of all of the beeps and vibrations, the battery dies down quickly and isn't superfast to recharge so it sits attached to the charging cable. But I guess that's alright because I have given up wearing it. I might also add that I tried to get a replacement within the warranty period and Garmin tried to replace it with a reconditioned device! I am very disappointed in the device!

Some good features. Failed with others
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had 3 Fitbits prior to this and decided on this for the music control and other features I thought would work similar to Fitbit. I do like the music control feature but this tracker lacks in simplicity of use. I feel I should be able to have activity intensity tracked without having to set the start and stop minutes- some times bursts of activity are not planned. It should detect the vigorous, moderate and sedentary intensity as it can detect the sleep quality without setting it to an activity mode. Then again, after a few days I had to start entering sleep start and end time before it would register. Stair climber way off. Sometimes I climb 20 flights and it doesn't detect any. I went on a trail that usually give the inclines about 9-12 flights depending on the part of the hill I walk at the end but I got 42 flights on flat terrain (and still no activity minutes because I didn't press a button again after setting before I started). Fitbit much more accurate stairs and intensities and is user friendly with a nice site. This tracks steps accurately but needs improvement in many areas before I would recommend to patients I coach to track activity.
