    It's okay, not great

I bought this device because it's waterproof. I am a lifeguard and wanted to know how many steps I take in a day. It's fine, but really annoying that it tells me to move even though I am, it just doesn't recognize it. I understand it's harder for it when I was walking in the water. And one day it told me that I did 74 flights of stairs just walking across a parking lot. I gave this 2 stars because, as long as you're on land, it's decent step tracker.

Not as good as I hoped for...

My first tracker was a Jawbone Up. I had the first and second generation. They both petered out. Second was a Fitbit Force. That lasted me for over two years. It was recalled so I sent it back to the manufacturer. I purchased the Garmin vivosmart HR hoping it was the answer to all of my tracking needs. So far, it is not. I have noticed that the steps tracker (as with all I have had in the past) is most accurate when worn on my ankle (inside a sock because it won't fit around the width of my ankle). The HR monitor is pretty accurate during rest and normal activity. Although, in the water when I swim laps it doesn't always seem to be accurate. I know where my HR should be when swimming and the Garmin indicates my HR as being far below reality. I tested myself with manual readings using my finger which is the most accurate way to detect one's HR. The sleep tracker is not very accurate. Last night, it only registered 2 hrs and 42 minutes of sleep, showing that I awoke at 5AM. Well, I know that I might have woke up around that time, but I did go back to sleep for a while. I will give this one a few more days, but I don't think it works well enough for me, personally. Others might have better luck with it. I will probably be returning it. Had a difficult time with set-up as I had to try numerous steps to get it to sync with my iPhone 6. Another problem was that for some reason, while trying to fall asleep, it accessed my phone's voice mail section and attempted to make a call on its own. I believe touching the screen a few times while moving around in bed caused that. I would recommend turning off that function before someone calls a friend in the middle of the night by accident and thus losing that friend. :)

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I’m sorry to hear about the various issues that you experienced when using your vívosmart HR. Please be aware that Garmin activity trackers are not designed to measure step data from inside your sock and the data may not be as reliable. Garmin Activity Trackers, such as the vívosmart HR, have sensors that are designed to track repetitive walking motion as steps.

With regard to your heart rate inaccuracies while swimming, the optical heart rate sensor on your vívosmart HR uses light to penetrate your skin and estimate your heart rate. Because the sensor requires a constant seal against your skin to accurately estimate your heart rate, using it while swimming is not advised. While it will not damage the watch or sensor while surface swimming, the motion may cause water or light to disrupt the sensor and provide inaccurate data or no data at all.

The Sleep data trouble that you experienced may be fixed by setting up your sleep time on Garmin Connect. To do so, please follow these steps:

      1. Log in to Garmin Connect
      2. Click menu icon in upper left (Three horizontal lines)
      3. Select "Devices"
      4. Click "User Settings" under your device
      5. Enter your normal sleep start and end time (e.g. 11:00 PM , 7:00 AM)
      6. Click "Save" at bottom of the page
      7. Click "Connect" in upper left to return to your Dashboard

The next time you sync with the band your normal sleep time will be updated and the Sleep data in Garmin Connect will reflect the sleep period timeframe. As far as your pairing trouble goes, please ensure that you’re following the pairing steps as they’re listed within the following FAQ: http://bit.ly/1YwGR48

If you have any additional questions, comments, or concerns, Garmin Customer Care would be happy to assist you. Our contact information, including telephone number and hours of operation, can be found on our Support page (www.garmin.com/support). Again, thank you so much for your review! (KS) Garmin

    Not ready for prime time

First, the Vivosmart HR did not record heart rate accurately. typically had a reading 30 - 40 beat less than my Forerunner 310 XT. Minimum HR was always higher than average. Basically, the features I needed were basically useless. The features that I didn't need seem to be more accurate. ALL in all, not worth the price. I realized after 5 days of wearing that the unit was a novelty, basically something I didn't need.

Complicated and useless.Trashing this for my Fitbt

I bought my Garmin because my partner bought one that was a level higher than mine. I thought, the less options for me, the less complicated it will be to use. Wrong! Firstly, I read the manual twice. I am well educated so I thought this would be manageable to figure out how to set it up and then read out the reports. Wrong! The first time I tried it with my BlueTooth head phones at the gym, the music would not play. This is because the bluetooth on my headset was fighting with the bluetooth on the Garmin program on my phone. So I removed the app from my phone and was able to listen to my music again while working out. So now the only place I can get to read out on my performance is by connecting the unit to my lap top. Not very convenient. I still have my Fitbit and will probably go back to it as the programs are much easier to navigate and it doesn't interfere with my bluetooth connection on my phone in order to use my headset. This is $179 dollars that's just going to sit in a drawer with other obsolete or useless items. But then again, this is only a First World problems. Perhaps I should be content with what I have; bodily intuition and go with your instincts and know when you are having a productive workout. Don't rely on these gadgets too much as their benefits can be misleading, especially if they are not calibrated for your height and weight. Want to know your hear rate? Take your pulse rate at 15 seconds and then multiply by four. It's less expensive.

    Numbers Don't Gibe

I bought the first vivosmart bundle (with strap) when it came out. Since then I've used it daily and at the same time, I've used the MS Band, Band 2 and Apple Watch. The thing I can't reconcile is that all of the above devices come within low single digit percentages of average heart rate during extended cardio workouts. Yet the VS HR ALWAYS is way, way off of calorie burn. Today, the difference was 40%, a not uncommon result. It's hard to reconcile 1,400 vs 1,000 calorie burns with avg HR of 140 on all devices

    Not for me

I wish I had liked this, but I really didn't. My wrist measures about 5-3/4" and even though the specs said it would fit, it was a little big and clunky. I found the band tricky to get on and off. It was a little difficult for me to attach the charger also. It said it would last for five days, but I had to charge it every other day. The features were cool, overall, and I think it would do what you want it to if you like or can get past the aesthetics.

Item worked great at first but have not been able to use it since The beginning of December because the charger was lost. The problem is that Best Buy does not cell additional charging cables. I called Garmin and they do not sell them either. So what I have now is a 149 dollar fitness tracker that I can't use. I recommend waiting till charging cables are sold individually. Once charging cables are sold individually then I will post the positives.

This is a good tracker. It was bulky and I hit it off of objects cracking the screen. I went swimming with it and the screen got worse. While sleeping with it the band broke. Garmin was good about sending me a replacement. I then hit it off objects and broke the screen and then went swimming with it making it worse. I chose to try a competitor.

Have it for a week or so, seems like the product wasn't ready for sale, mostly for everyday basics, took it for work out and never get and even close read of mi hr, which was the main reason that I bought it, as soon as I finish something and try to see my hr, just give me a 00, and in top of day battery life with notifications off was roughly 3 days, such a disappoint, I was waiting for this product for a while,

    waste of money

The information this device tells you is completly inaccurate. From the sleep, to the heart rate to even the steps you walk. You can input your step length and everything but it will never be accurate. I'm very disappointed as this was my first Garmin device. I would never suggest anybody to waste their money on this product!

Good Step Counter But Don't Rely On HR

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Switched from a Fitbit Charge 2 to the Garmin Vivosmart HR because of the reviews. I would say it is of average performance for a activity tracker. The heart rate monitoring is not accurate. Way more sensitive to sweat effecting the HR reading than Fitbit was. If you want a step counter it works great but don't rely on the heart rate monitor it is far from accurate.
