GE Energy Star Refrigerator Freezer

The gaskets in both the freezer and refrigerator door have problems. For some reason, the inside capacity seems to be getting less and less as compared to my previous refrig/freezer. Temperature also is at 45-46 degrees Farenheit rather than the 40 degrees (on my previous ones).

Hello JSW808 - thank you for providing a review of your new refrigerator. We're sorry to hear that the gaskets appear to have problems. Please keep in mind that the refrigerator should be leveled so it is raised in the front so that the doors close easily on their own when opened about half way. If you have to close one of the doors, then the other door may slightly pop open. This is normal as long as the door closes right back on it's own. If this information does not help, then we recommend contacting GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance. Thanks for choosing GE Appliances! NANCYatGEA

QUIET ONE

I searched for a couple of weeks trying to find the quietest frdige I could as I couldn't stand another frige with whiny fans. Saw conflicting reviews on this model, but as more than one said it was quiet, I was interested. The no-clean condenser was also a plus, as we have cats.
Our new fridge arrived yesterday and I am quite pleased. The condenser was quiet and the large, low speed condenser fan made a pleasant, low pitched and barely audible sound, much like a big window fan on low.
Why only 4 stars? Well unfortunately, the freezer fan was making some noise when I first plugged the unit in and I had to pull the cover off the freezer fan and tuck some insulation back that was protruding and hitting the fan blades. Once this was done, all was quiet. I hope this was a one-off, but if the freezer fan is making noise, this was easy to fix. The cover pulls off from the top by pressing simultaneously on the top and side tabs (don't forget to pull the plug first!). An unfortunate glitch, but I was so happy with the fridge once this was taken care of all is forgiven!
For those interested in noise, smaller condenser fans in some fridges run at higher speeds and make a higher pitched and more irritating whine. If noise is your issue, look for a fridge with a larger, slower running fan like this fridge has and you'll be a Happy Camper like me!

good value but annoying noise

Roomy, looks good, fit well in my small space. But has a high pitched hum along with the usual frig white noise that is annoying, because in my small home my living room isn't far from the kitchen. If your home is bigger and you don't spend much time within earshot of this product, then it's a good buy.

Bought this to replace an old, noisy refrigerator. And got an even louder, noisy one. Very disappointed! If you put it out in the shed or porch, fine, but in the house, no way.

Hello ABCD - thank you for providing a review of your refrigerator. We are sorry to hear that it is noisy. The new refrigerators are more energy efficient and will sound differently than older models. Refrigerators will run optimally at half to three-fourths full. If necessary, we recommend placing gallon jugs of water in the refrigerator (not filling them completely full in the freezer) to take up empty space. Also, please make certain the doors are closing and sealing properly. We hope this helps! Thanks for sharing your feedback and for choosing GE Appliances! NANCYatGEA

I liked the size for our small space. Ice maker was great. Worked well for it's short life. Cold and quiet. Easy to clean. Very dissappointed to have it quit working 3 years 2 months after purchasing it.

Freezer will not cool below 15 degrees, should be 0 degrees for ice cream to be solid. Refrigerator turns on and off every 3 minutes. GE service was out twice. First time said I had too much in the freezer. Even though its 2 cubic feet doesn't mean you can actually use all 2 cubic feet according to GE service. Second time GE took a photo of what I had in the freezer and needed to send it to GE engineers to get a fix for the problem. Never saw such a circus. Up to now GE has done nothing but look at what I had in the freezer. AVOID THIS REFRIGERATOR.

refrigerator not working properly

For full disclosure the model number of the appliance I bought is slightly different: GTE18GTERWW, but otherwise it seems to be identical. fridge was installed by BestBuy on 8/29/16. Installation was not what I would call professional because the fridge wobbled and was jammed under a kichen cabinet such that I couldn't open the cabinet doors. Fridge worked fine for about 2 weeks. Eventually the freezer temp dropped to -20F (measured with a lab thermometer) and the fridge compartment got warmer and warmer - currently at 58F. Lots of ice buildup in the freezer. Fan runs continuously 24/7 - never stops.

This was a disappointing purchase. It's 7 year's old & the bottom level doesn't get cold anymore. GE has let me down. I will be forced to buy another brand now.
