I purchased this online, as a replacement fridge. I called Best Buy to find out what I need to do to get the optional icemaker, and was told that an icemaker was included, and the option was to connect it or not. When the fridge was delivered, there was no icemaker. (Best Buy, check your phone logs for my call regarding the icemaker) The front door of the fridge was crushed in in one area. The door need to be replaced. When I called Best Buy about the crushed door, and having it replaced, I was transferred to the main call number, instead of to someone who could help. The above took around an hour, and I could not take any more time waiting. (Best Buy, check your phone logs regarding my call about the damaged fridge door). I will not be able to try again to get my damaged new fridge fix arranged until several more weeks.

Sad to say but my purchase of this refrigerator turned into a return. Thank you Best Buy for your 15 day policy. I think that I received a lemon. The shelving was very poorly arranged and would not support tall items without moving the top shelf way down. The noise when running was a real disctraction, not to mention it seemed as if it was always running. Sometimes more than 3 hours before shutting off. It did hold it's temp nicely once it got there. I did some timings and it averaged 1.5 hours of run time to 1 hour of off time. Unless you were in it a lot then the spread widened greatly. The freezer shelf was so flimsey I would be reluctant to place any item weighing much more than 10 lbs with fear of bending it. It sagged with my small amount on it. The freezer would not fully defrost. I had a thick layer of frost on the back side within a few days of having the unit. The temp control is right in the way as you open the fresh food door making the top shelf a partial shelf. In addition there is only the one temp control, no option in adjusting the freezer separate from the fresh food. This unit replaced another GE that I had for more than 25yrs and was beginning to worry about it failing. This prompted me to go with GE again hoping I would realize similar life and use. My prior unit was light years ahead of this one in almost every way. Good luck.

First new refrigerator in a long time. It seems like a solid performer, but we are disappointed by the lack of adjustable shelves. Our last refrigerator (Magic Chef) had an shelf adjustment system that allowed you to adjust shelves every 1" vertically and divided the inside into 2 sections per shelf. This GE has fixed points that limit adjustments, For example, the top shelf is just a 1/2" too short for tall bottles (a milk jug just fits) and to adjust that shelf you have to drop it down 2-3" which screws up the middle shelf. The freeze comes with one wire rack that leaves a huge void for stuff, but no way to organize it. We had to go out an buy separate storage system for the freezer. Overall, fit and finish seem good. We had to get a refrigerator this size to fit into a built-in space in the kitchen.

The refrigerator started out great but after approximately one month it started to become loud. It gradually got so loud we could hear it throughout the entire house - including upstairs. The repair fixed the unit for another month and then same issue. The second repair lasted less than one day and have a third repair scheduled in TWO weeks. GE has been OK on the repair but I am trying to get them to replace the unit which they said they would do if it is still bad after three repairs. Incredible waste of time, my patience is almost at its end and I will never buy a GE appliance again.

I have to be honest, I'm baffled by the negative reviews... I did purchase it in black, unlike the other reviews (but not sure why the color should make a difference). Bottom line, this is probably the best appliance purchase I've ever made! We were reluctant to spend so much on a top freezer model vs. a side by side. However, this offered more capacity for the price. So we decided to sacrifice "appearance" for functionality... As it turns out, we did not sacrifice appearance at all. This fridge looks fabulous and with the textured finish, you don't feel the need to wipe it down constantly (this is a major plus with 3 small children). It also seems to be very durable and resistant to dents or scratches. We purchased the optional ice-maker and it works beautifully! As far as the "noise", I've certainly never noticed or found it bothersome. When the ice maker fills with water and when it dumps the ice you can hear it. Otherwise, I've never noticed it making noise. The temperature is well balanced, where as our (not missed) former fridge would freeze things in some areas of the fridge, while not cooling others enough! GrRrr! As for the shelving, it can be a little tricky ensuring they are properly affixed. However, once they were, we never had any issues there either. Trust me, with a family of 5 we keep it pretty full!
