The actual frame for the microwave is plastic, but sturdier than expected. It's not quite as sleek as I'd like it to look; it's a little bulky and projects out from the cabinet face by about a half inch. But the options are limited and this is super easy to install so it's worth getting.

I was able to get an open box item so the price was a bit better. The kit to mount the microwave is metal and the trim kit is plastic. The price is a bit high for simple metal and plastic. It gets the job done and looks good.

Getting an open box saved me a bundle! These trim kits are so expensive and GE makes it impossible to reuse an old one. Very happy with my purchase. There were no signs of this being used other than the box being open...

I am still trying to find the correct screws to assemble it. When contacting Best Buy they were not able to send me replacement screws. I am still looking for replacement screws. I am hopeful that it will be an easy assembly once I find screws that work.

From the sides, you see a black plastic edge which looks a little cheap.

We did have to do some cutting on the trim kit so that it would sit evenly. Not sure if that was the fault of the builder or the trim kit itself.
