Customers are delighted by the 4.5 cu ft Top Load Washer's cleaning performance, large capacity, and ease of use, frequently praising its spacious tub and the inclusion of an agitator. However, a significant number of customers reported that the washer is quite loud and that the spin cycle could be improved. Some also mentioned issues with the washer's balance and occasional reliability problems. A few users expressed concerns about the lid lock feature.

Now five months old, this washer has performed well from the day it was installed.
My only real complaint is that it REALLY could use some sound-deadening material on the inside panels. The exterior shell acts like a metal amplifier to the cycles, making it noticeably louder than our previous washer. It's not a deal-breaker as it's in a laundry room that's closed off. But if this was going to be installed in a place in the house not closed off, or next to an office (or anywhere that sound might be an issue) I might consider looking at other models/brands.
In terms of cleaning efficiency and all the other aspects you buy these for: no complaints at all; it just works. The interface is pretty straight forward and easy to use for whatever cycle you need.
Installation was likewise simple if you've got a basic understanding of how to connect up a couple of hoses adn where to point the drain.

My New GE Washer

I got this GE after my 10 year old Maytag stopped working, and I love everything about it. It's very quiet and barely vibrates. There is enough cycles for everything you'd need to wash, and the basket is HUGE! Even though it's a top loader, it seems to be saving me a couple bucks a month with my water and power bills. I mean, it seems to be very efficient. I was skeptical at first, considering I was coming from a older top loader, but my clothes come out cleaner every time, and the Deep Fill option is a life saver when it comes to bulky comforters, which I can now fit in my washer!! I would absolutely recommend this machine, but the one negative thing I can mention is the quality control of this washer. I can tell the lid and controls are much flimsier than my old washer, and GE is no longer a very good brand when it comes to reliability, but I gave it a shot, and for now, I love it!

Great machine. Clothes come out softer and cleaner than with my old machine. I don't have to use as much detergent either. The size is HUGE and I've been able to wash queen size comforters and really big stuffed animals that haven't been cleaned for ages (I'm sure king size comforters would fit fine too). My machine is in the basement so I can't speak much to the sound level. I can just hear it running from the first floor (I have a small house), but that helps me determine when it's finished and ready to go to the dryer, so I don't mind.
Only 2 complaints:
I'm 5'4" and it's difficult to reach the last few clothes from the tub, my arms are juuuuust long enough.
You can't use the bleach dispenser and the autofill option because it fills a little and runs a little then fills a little and runs a little, causing the bleach to dispense prematurely onto the clothes ruining them.
All in all, I really love this machine. Would recommend!

For a normal load of clothes I bump up the water level to HIGH--medium seems too low. I also need to give the clothes an EXTRA SPIN, otherwise it takes longer to dry in the dryer. The agitator column does twist the clothes a bit too much. Some reviewers complained the agitator column came off during the wash. I have had no problems like that at all! I can live with all the little quirks knowing the clothes come out clean and it has more than enough settings for my needs. I think it's a fairly quiet machine and balanced well ..The heaviest load I've done is 4 small throw rugs but I made sure to adjust .the settings to adequately fill, rinse and spin the rugs. This model will do the job without spending a fortune. It sure beats the wringer washing machine and beating the rugs, :)

I hunted far and wide for a model like this:
- Top-loading. No smelly residue as with front-loading.
- Simple to use. Well laid-out controls, big knobs, absolutely no need for Wi-Fi or fancy electronics.
- Big enough to handle a pillow.
- Unlocked during water fill. I want to be able to put in detergent, adjust load spread, etc., while it continues to fill.
- !! Most Important 1 !! Manual water level control. I do Not want the washer to decide the water level for me. I want to make good and sure there is enough water to get all of the suds out of my clothes! It even allows a second rinse to ensure that. Also, I find that the loads I considered Large with my old 3.5 washer now only require Medium with this 4.5 one, due to the larger tub allowing the clothes to spread out more. So, even without using its auto-water-level feature - which it has, even though I don't use it - I still use less water than I did before!
- !! Most Important 2 !! Drain/Spin cycle. Many new washers have only a Rinse/Spin cycle and not a Drain/Spin cycle. If I have something soaking wet and want to get it un-wet, I do not want the washer to add more water to it before spinning.
- Another plus that I didn't have before is the timed auto-soak feature. It is great to be able to let whites sit in soapy water for a while before the main cycle starts.
So far, this washer lives up to my expectations completely!
Some have complained that it is noisy, but mine lives in the basement and I don't notice the noise at all. It's definitely not any noiser than the 30-year-old one I replaced! Besides, when its noise does come through, I enjoy hearing it, because I know how far along it is. I'd much rather know this information that way, than having to be glued even more to my phone while waiting for a WiFi notification.
Simple and easy! I hope they don't stop making it, because someone out there needs to continue making washers like this for people like me!

First of all, I was very happy with Best Buy delivery service. They called the day before and gave me a window, and the next day they showed up on time. The delivery men were very polite and careful. As for the washer, I've had it about a month now. It is very well built and good looking. This is a high efficiency washer so it senses the clothes load and automatically adds the appropriate amount of water. If you are washing a very large load you can set the water level to manually fill the maximum. The washer also has settings for extra soak time, extra spin time and settings for many types of fabrics. The tub is very large and deep. This may be a challenge for a very short person. It is a little noisy in the first cycle. I have found that the clothes come out very clean and water spun out well. So far I am very happy with this washer.

I am totally in love with this washer. It has more capacity than my front loader and cleans much better and more quickly. I love that I can open the lid to add things during a cycle. The front loader had something of that capability, but it would leak onto the floor every time I opened the door. This washer is so easy to use, and I love all the options available for the different cycles. I am so happy with this purchase. I think I did 4 loads of laundry the afternoon it was delivered!! I highly recommend this to anyone in the market for a quality machine.

You want a washer that is easy to use and just plain washes your clothes, this is the washer for you! It is an old school style agitator that uses WATER (imagine that?) to wash the clothes. The last “fancy” HE washer we tried some clothes came out dry or barely damp. How were they even washed?! This washer has no complicated computer screens that could eventually burn up and almost catch your house on fire (like our last model). Just look at the knobs and select your choices. My husband even enjoys using the washer now. It’s so easy! You can look inside the washer mid cycle and see that there is plenty of water getting all the clothes wet and washing them. It is louder then our last long term washer, but I enjoy the sound of something working hard to clean my clothes.

We purchased this washer to replace a 30 year old one that was still working but was probably at the end of its maintenance-free life. We had no need for a lot of bells and whistles, since were looking for a basic washer. In looking at the various models, we knew that we did want one with an impeller, because we thought that they would do a better job of cleaning clothes over the long run. This meant a top loader (same as our old one) which was fine with us. We also wanted a washer with a relatively large capacity,
We have been using the GE for 4 months and are very pleased with it. Best Buy delivery and set up went smoothly, and the washer has been working great. It isn't loud when running, and does a good job of cleaning clothes, towels, sheets, etc. The washer has a large capacity, but, with the multiple levels of load size, appears to do a good job of conserving water.
If you are looking for a good, efficient washer, this one should work for you. We made a great choice and are very happy with it.

This is a good washer for seniors and folks who want something simple. Easy to understand but still has good options. Provides enough water and clothes come out clean. Only thing I do notice is that it makes a bit of noise when agitating. It plays a little tune when your wash is finished but it is not loud or obnoxious. Easy to see dials.

I’ve had this washer for three weeks and I love it!! GE is the only manufacturer to make a washing machine that I can determine how much water I want when running a load of clothes. I can choose for the water to fill all the way to the top of the machine! Other washers don’t fill up with water that high so your clothes aren't fully immersed in water. Don’t let the salesman tell you that the water doesn’t fill all the way up because it does. Read the instructions because if you hold the Deep Fill button in for three seconds it will fill all the way up. The washer holds a lot of clothes, there’s plenty of settings to choose from and I love the soak feature! It’s quiet too! No lid lock while you’re filling the washer with clothes and water which makes it nice if you forget to throw something in. We just threw out our Maytag washer because one of the corners totally rusted out after only five years and it lost it’s balance feature. My clothes come out feeling and smelling fresher then when I used my old Whirlpool too! NOTE: Before installing it, get the diagnostic codes - they’re located underneath. Tilt the washer and you’ll see them taped along the inside underneath the washer. You’ll need those codes if you need to reset the washer.

This washer is huge and can handle very large loads. However, when washing blankets or heavier items, it gets off balance easily during the spin cycle. We have had to re-start the cycle or cancel it when that happens. Otherwise very happy with the functions of the washer.

We recommend checking to be sure the washer was leveled properly at the time of installation. When the load becomes unbalanced, press the Start/Pause button and wait for the lid to unlock. Once unlocked rearrange the load, close the lid and press the Start/Pause button again to complete the cycle. For additional information, refer to the online Owner's Manual. Click on the Features tab and scroll down till you see the link for the manual. You can also search our GEAppliances site using your model number to locate the manual. -Vikki@GEAppliances

I purchased this washer in July 2019 and have been using it for the past 2 months. So far, I am very impressed with the unit's overall performance. I read other reviews stating there were problems with inadequate fill levels but I have not encountered this. I have been using the "precise fill" feature and every load I have checked, the water level covered the load completely. Just the right amount of water to get the cloths clean without overfilling and wasting water.
I have used several of the settings (delicate, sheets/towels, etc.) and have been impressed with the cleanliness, the fairly quick wash time and the spin cycle... even heavy items like blankets and towels are spun so no excess water remains.
If I had to list one con, it would be the noise. The unit is a bit on the loud side but it is certainly tolerable especially if the unit is in a laundry room or garage.
The controls are a bit confusing at first so a good read through the manual before using is recommended.
Overall I am extremely happy with this purchase and would recommend.

I love this GE top loading washer. It was so reasonable price and it fills up so high with water and cleans so good. Other new modern machines do not fill up with water and this machine has a huge tank to get your clothes clean. My daughter bought a very expensive washing machine and she wishes she had seen my washing machine as her washer control the water level which she has to do smaller loads as she wants enough water to clean the clothes. I can put six regular bath towels in a load and there is still plenty of space and water. I do love my washer machine.

Does what I needed: actually get the clothes clean! Solved years of frustration with 3 different low water use machines that had a zillion bells and whistles, but didn’t clean the clothes. I insisted on the model with the agitator - yay! No more pants legs tied in knots! Whites are now white! Only reason for 4 stars is it’s hella noisy. We don’t do laundry at night anymore. I definitely recommend though!

I have heard a lot a trash talk about the GE brand lately. I just want to say that I have had this machine for at least 6 months and it has worked great. I have not had one issue and it gets my clothes clean. Its easy to use and I do at least 3 loads a day. I recommend this model to moms that need to do large loads of laundry who are looking for a model with an agitator.

So this a great washer especially for the price. Washes well, has a big drum (fits a lot of cloths), has lots of features and options, and is easy to use.
The only negative I can say it is loud. I didnt downgrade the overall rating though because of all of the other positives and I feel that it should just be something to share, because it is not loud enough to bother us.

This washer replaced an old model. I was immediately impressed by the size of the washer, the HE feature, and the ease of using this model. We’ve never owned an HE washer before and now I’m glad we purchased this one. I only need a fraction of the detergent I was using before. Not only am I happy with how clean my clothes are, but the washing machine itself looks clean when I’m finished too. We have 4 people doing laundry in our home and it works out quite well for all of us.

GE Washer vs Family of 8

This washer machine has been WORKED and it holding up admirably at 2 years in.
Allow me to disclose that we’re a family of 8, with 3 of my children being into sports, and I still run cloth diapers for my baby. It cleans really well, it holds up to the 2-3 washings per day at a consistent level. I love the controls are easy to understand and the agitation gives me clean laundry. My machine hasn’t started rusting out yet either like they usually do around the hinges.
Let’s talk the cons. It is a bit loud, but it’s a washer. The agitation that gives you clean laundry can be hard on your clothes. Two years in and it wore out a couple of towels I own, but these towels were used minimal of 4 times a week so it is possible that they were just used to an excess manner as well. It does lock the lid so if your load goes uneven, it feels like you’re waiting for years for it to unlock for adjustment.
Overall: I would buy this again. It works hard and does well.
