Replacing a GE Profile Microwave with the updated

We purchased this GE Profile microwave to replace the our old GE Profile. It had the very same features plus Air Fryer and so much more. We are really enjoying it,plus all the similarities to our old microwave. If there is a negative, it is that some of the controls have moved, some of the features of our original microwave that were semiautomatic now appear to work through sensors without our being able to intervene, because the are automatic, and with the additional features, everything on the control panel is now smaller and harder to see. Still, we love the microwave.
Thank you for taking the time to send us you feedback. We are happy to hear you are loving your new microwave unit and appreciate you choosing us again for your purchase! This unit won’t disappoint. It’s got some really great features that you are sure to continue to enjoy using for a very long time.

Major upgrade from our old one!

Love my new microwave convection oven. My old one finally stopped working, and I had to replace it. Even though it fit in the same space, the inside dimensions are bigger, which is a big plus. Wattage is a tad higher, so warming up is much faster. The guys that installed did a phenomenal job. They went above and beyond to retrofit my cabinet to make it work. Buttons are a little hard to push, and I wish the time for microwaving was not just 15 second increments, but otherwise, a huge upgrade for us.

Fit the space my old profile was in perfectly. Had to change the wall hanger and drill new holes to secure the top screws but all is well. The vent is in a little different place so some duct tape is in order. Still getting used to the dial to set time and defrost level. Prefer the single button for 1-5 minutes but it works fine, just different. The air fryer works great, on more thing to remove from the countertop. Last one lasted over 20 years, hope this one makes it. Love the LG profile seres.

We really the easiness of using this microwave. Ours has the digital dial as and can also be used as a convection oven. It not only looks nice, it cooks incredibly well. We are very happy with this purchase!

This oven works as described. I feel at 950 watts it is underpowered compared to our previous GE Profile Microwave. Love having it at eye level. Would prefer a different control panel, one where you have a key pad and can just enter the time and temps rather than that dial. Also, the sound options are limiting. The HIGH volume is still to low to hear in a busy kitchen.

We have always purchased GE and therfore did so again. Overall a good product but expensive for what it is. It is apparent that over the years GE has cut back on quality of parts used. My one complaint is that the control knob is a bit flimsy. For an $800 unit GE should have done better. The unit is sharp in appearance with vibrant stainless steel. The touch pad is a bit busy and dull, sometimes making it difficult to find the desired feature. Overall I doubt anyone would be disappointed with this unit, as it is a solid product, works well and looks great!

As long as this one holds up better than the last GE Profile we brought that will be a plus. The one we just replace before this one only lasted 6 years. Not very long for a microwave that cost as much as these GE Profile costs. The reason we went back to the GE was it had all 5 star ratings not a bad star at all. So far so good.
We're so glad to hear that you're liking your new microwave so far! It's also appreciated that you stayed loyal to our brand. If you have any questions about features, we're here!

This multifunction, top of the line Microwave is wonderful. Many great features, including convection cooking and options galore. Very complex, however. There is a dial that you rotate for choosing many functions and setting cook times, etc. There are no numbers to enter. The dial is how you choose details. While the unit I have is still new, it has become evident that the dial, which not only turns but is pushed to execute functions, is going to be a weak spot for future failure. Any moving part is likely to wear down, and the dial gets used a lot! Make sure you have a good extended warranty contract as it appears as though this is a design feature that might easily fail. Make sure you get TotalTech from BestBuy. Otherwise great microwave.

Easy to use GE microwave oven. Heats food relatively even and is easy to clean. Have had two other GE microwaves and were both pretty reliable. This model is also a convection oven, so it has more use if needed.
We're delighted to hear you're enjoying your microwave and convection oven! Thank you for your continued trust in GE Appliances and for sharing your positive experience!

Very happy with the unit. The inside is easy to clean. The exhaust fan has 3 modes, so prepare for the noise when it's on high. I was initially concerned on the durability of the knob, as it would get lots of use, but it has held up well and we have zero issues.

This GE Microwave has an output of 950 watts which is significantly below the 1100 watt general cooking requirements for pre-packaged meals. This requires guessing how much additional microwave time needed to make sure meals are fully cooked to reach internal temperature requirements. Meals are only partially cooked without adding additional time beyond what is recommended on various packages, such as Lean Cuisine.
Twisting knob for setting cook time is awkward and sets at 15 second intervals, so cook time is unable to be customized.

TLDR- if you’re looking for a microwave with all the features, look no further. We wanted to consolidate a few one use appliances into one, and this does the trick. I’ve seen reviews complaining about the air fryer function, but I’ve had zero issues. It crisps perfectly!
As with every oven, it’s trial and error until you find the right balance of temperature and time. The microwave function does what it needs to do. Popcorn fiction, zero burning. Air fryer crisps perfectly. I’ve reheated crispy tacos from sogginess and they were just as good as the day before.
My only problem with this purchase was with my local store (Beavercreek OH). Purchased this open box and they refused to assist in helping me locate the microwave, just telling me it was unavailable. After walking the store, it was clearly there as their site stated. Always have had crappy service at this location, so what’s new?

Great purchase !! My wife loves using this product.
She uses the air fryer feature more often than he microwave. She used the convection oven for our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. everything turned out perfect. Highly recommend this product.

We originally bought 2, yes 2 of the defective PVM9179SKSS. Both blew-up before leaving the store when using the convection oven setting. We didn't want to drill new holes in the cabinet, so we decided to give the new PVM9179SRSS a try. Well, surprise, the new RSS doesn't match the holes from the KSS. This is good and bad. Good because it is a complete redesign of a defective KSS, bad because now our cabinet looks like Swiss cheese. But, so far, after one month of heavy use, it's working flawlessly. Note of caution: use a heat shield on the back and top to prevent heat scorching your wall and cabinet. We are using this in an RV. It replaced a worn-out Frigidaire.

We just recently installed the microwave and realized that the cooking time needs to be set by a dial, (there is no number pad) and only allows time choices in 15 second increments, starting with 15 seconds. I have many items that I want to heat up for less than 15 seconds and I am unable to do so unless I go to settings and set up a second cooking cycle. I set up a second cycle which gives me 5 second cook time intervals. The only problem is that it overrode the 30 second button on the touchpad, which is a feature that I also use. In addition, the start button or dial needs to be pressed twice, in order for the unit to start, which is totally unnecessary. If I had known this prior to purchase I would have selected another brand as this microwave's timing features are very inconvenient. it is also less powerful than previous microwaves I have owned.
Thanks for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. Your concerns are valued, and we welcome any additional insights you'd like to share as we continually strive to improve the products and services we offer.

I bought my first GE Profile Microwave January 2002, dependable for 23 years. I replaced it for another Profile that includes an air fryer and convection oven. What a deal. I’m am very pleased with this purchase, hoping it will last 20 years or longer. Best Buy is a company I depend on.

This is a really nice microwave / convection oven. But if I had it to do over again, I would have purchased the (equivalent) version that doesn’t have the knob. I thought the knob would make it easier to rapidly select times and what not. But the engineer at GE that worked on this neutered the behaviors behind the knob rendering it a “pretty” waste of time. It’s also annoying to keep clean. So, just go for the flat panel sibling. Otherwise, it’s a really good if not outstanding (finishes in “show” position) oven.
