Excellent Upgrade from Windows XP

Our 2009 Toshiba Satellite Pro S300 laptop required an upgrade from Windows XP Professional SP3 to Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1. After running the Windows Upgrade Advisor, we learned our Toshiba met the requirements for the 32 bit version of Win 7. We downloaded, carefully studied, and printed selected pages of the Microsoft document “Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7". Then, the installation disk was started, and was finished in about one hour. There were no tense moments such as the appearance of popup boxes requiring choices between bewildering options, as has been experienced in previous OS installations. It turned out that all of our data files and those associated with Win XP were retained in the Windows.old folder. The desktop screen displayed only the Recycle Bin icon - no unwanted programs were loaded. Connection to our network for internet access, and installation of security software was done with no problems. Subsequently about 120 OS updates were automatically downloaded, and this took 20-30 min. It’s early, but it seems that performance and program compatibility of the instrument is as good as when it was running Win XP and compares very favorably with our newer laptops which have Win 7.
