A brilliant sequel

As a sequel, Ghost in the Shell: Innocence is both unusual and brilliant. While the story differs significantly from its predecessor, "Innocence" caries on the themes of humanity, self, and the nature of existence in a way that is provocative, as well as thought-provoking.
The film is a visual feast . . . one of those rare animated films which is worth a watch simply for absolute beauty of its imagined future. Aside from that, the film is worth watching for an incredibly rich story, and character development. While a familiarity with the first film will provide contextual background detail, the film can still stand on its own for a neophyte to the GITS univers.

A Much More Cerebral Film Than The First GITS Film

Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence is a great example of how to make a solid sequel while taking the series into a more philosophical direction. GITS 2 is a much more introspective film that the first one and it deals with such topics as what differentiates a human from a machine once A.I. and technology advance enough to have human-like machines. And what is a soul? You have to pay attention to this film to see all that it has to offer. If you're looking for a film just like the first GITS, this is not it. It has its moments of great action sequences, but it delves a lot more into the cerebral side of the GITS series.

I think this movie and the first movie are good companions if you're a fan of the manga. I've never read the manga, but I get the feeling that these movies are made for the fans who know so much more. Like I'm a big fan of Tokyo Babylon. BUT, I had no clue that I actually saw the OVA before I read the comic. And I loved the OVA. But after I read the comics the OVA just made more sense because the OVA left a lot of things out. So...yeah...I'd say read Ghost In The Shell before you watch either one of the movies.

This is one of my favorite anime movies and I jumped at the chance to buy it on blue ray.
My first thoughts were that menu screen is well done. Nice art,the cursor sound fits the material perfectly.
As the movie played I noticed how good the transfer was, especially after some picture adjustments.
The Dolby sound was excellent, accentuating the story with great bass and clear vocals. The ending credits song is stunningly clear.
The only way this could be better would be a Dolby Vision version with Atmos

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is gorgeously animated despite a wonky mix of traditional 2D and CG animation, and looks especially nice on Blu-ray. Batou's emotional journey in the wake of The Major's disappearance is an interesting one, wherein the stoic cyborg's sole comfort appears to be his basset hound. However, the movie often gets quite pompous in its repeated use of philosophical quotes, an aspect that doesn't lend itself to frequent revisits.

I thought I had all of the Ghost in the Shell movies. I thought this one was a rehash of the 'New Movie', which I thought was Ghost in the Shell 2, but, no! This is related, but different so I had to get it.
It's more like the original in the animation, and story. It's definitely not to be missed by the GitS fan, for sure...

The Major is AWOL in this. Batou & Togusa are investigating a recent string of gruesome Murders committed by a new line of 'Companion Robots'. There is a good exploration of the Morality of Cybernetics & what may happen to one's 'Ghost'. Then just as it's looking Most dire for the Duo the Major's Ghost returns to take control of one of the Companion bodies.........

This is a more thought provoking movie than the first one, focusing solely on Batou and Togusa, the latter who is still dealing with the disappearance of the Major after the events of the original film. This movie sees section 9 called in after robots start to commit murder, with each one being found to have an illegal ghost attached to it. Is this the Major?

Given the ending of the first movie, it's kind of a given that this one would feature much less Major and much more Batou. However, I still missed her. This follows on some time after the first film and gives us more crazy hacking and our detectives have to track down the source. Not essential, but still worthy of the title Ghost in the Shell.

Continuing with the finality of the first Ghost in the Shell, Mamoru Oshii expands on the topics of humanity, the web and technology with great detail. I had it in Japanese but acquiring it in English was a must for me. It is a great film, a bit slower than the first but the significance of the discussion could very well be life changing. Instant anime classic!

This film is a good sequel to the first and although not a direct follow up plot wise -- you should def watch the first one before this. The animation here is top notch and the plot is mindblowing in its intricate puzzles. Barto shines well here and the Major of course slays! also the slight use of CGI is a cool touch and not overdone.

Fans of the ghost in the shell series will love this movie, its a sequel to the original 90s film. Great movie, though if your wishing for the major, this story is focused on Batou. Glad it has both dubs, because the one I bought on dvd years ago at best buy was japanese dub only. ehh. Pick this up.

Please be ready to be enthralled. This is a beautiful anime film.
Please be sure to check out the original film first, though. Just a thought.
I don't know what to tell you about the film without saying too much, but I can recommend it firmly. Please give this a chance if you're fond of the series.
Enjoy!

I've been looking forward to this movie coming out for many years. It's great that Best Buy carries movies like this. It was missed stocked in the TV section but a Best Buy employee did a great job of tracking the movie down for me. They are always extremely helpful. Excellent fun well worth the wait... enjoy!

Ghost in the shell 2 is a decent sequel to the original. The movie though is not as good as the original Ghost in the Shell. The cgi presented is dated and I found the story harder to follow. It is still a good movie to watch if you are a fan of the series.

This movie tried to fill in the gaps of what happen to the Ghost in Shell characters years after the last war broke out. It still left a lot of questions but in the end the twists were worth the money. Not for young children though.

The story is a little hard to follow sometimes and there is way too much CG, also less than 5 minutes of the Major. It was still funny to see Batou's private life with his dog. I did like it more than the Arise releases.

This sequel to Ghost in the Shell has a better story than the first, yet I don't think the visuals are as dynamic. The blu-ray looks and sounds good and has both english and japanese audio tracks.

By was I wrong. It was a new program that has not been shown on Adult Swim on the cartoon channel. I have seen all of the episodes of Ghost in the Shell that they have shown. This one is new.

this is a revised version of "Ghost in the Shell". One of the best story lines in anime (IMHO). Bumped one star for delivery (drags in a few places). But still good entertainment anime.
