It’s ok. I’m not the target audience. Probably will sell it.

This was my first time seeing this. Although it was fun to watch, I prefer the Scarlet Johansson one. As far as the 4K picture quality, I wasn’t impressed. Colors pop here and there, but overall the image of the animation is flat and soft, with some decent grain. The SteelBook is the only thing saving me from regretting this purchase.

I need go watch again, it was hard for me to follow. Might enjoy the movie more after another rewatch or 2. The actual movie looks really good for a 4k however.

    Not worth it in 4k

I had a feeling that a cartoon in 4K from the 90s would not translate well im 4k and with Dolby Vision to boot. The picture is clear but the animation is not smooth and 4k does not do the artwork any favors. I did not look at the blu-ray version, but it may look better. DV does not show up with any benefit, it was probably a marketing gimmick. I got it for Atmos, which was not strong. If it were not for the price, i would not have bought it. If you like it, then get it, but if you wanted to see stellar 4k cartoons, then this is not it. The 60s Jonny Quest blu-ray looked more pristine and 4k, even though it was 1080p...

I bought this because I wanted to know what the live action movie was going to be about. This anime was ahead of its time. Now, it's something you can pass. The conversations and ideas are still very thought provoking but that's all you really get out of it. I'm sure the movie will be nothing like its anime but at least I know what they started with and why they would make changes. If you're fan of anime, this can hold its own right next to Princess Monoke, Spirited Away, and Akira. If you're not, you won't get the idea nor keep up with the great artwork that goes into making these older animes. I'm not recommending this to everyone, only the people that value good anime stories that make you think.

The image quality is not what I expected, it looks like 1080p upscaled, kinda blurry, and I'm certain I was playing the 4K disc with 4K output on a 4K TV. There's also a caveat with the digital copy, this is a Lionsgate film, which means it's not eligible for Movies Anywhere, so choose wisely before you redeem the digital copy. It can be redeemed for VUDU and another one I can't remember, no iTunes, nor Amazon Prime, nor Google Play.

Movie looks and sounds amazing but digital copy is NOT for Movies Anywhere - works only for Vudu which is not known until you open up the movie and attempt to redeem the code

An anime classic that needs a better edition

Considered to be a benchmark by which many other works are judged against, it's still relevant today. I would have just gone for the 25th anniversary edition but the upgrade to a steelbook edition nabbed both and English and Japanese digital copy. The only thing I can sing it for is that this release is from Anchor Bay and they used to dig up incredible extras for their releases and this is movie only. There are pluses and minuses to this release. It's finally in HD but it appears to be an old transfer. Can't recommend for the collector.

Same as the last release but in a steel book and the disc has much better graphics no extras and lacks the booklet from the anniversary release. great movie a really thinker and much different than Stand Alone Complex. The franchise has been basically been going down hill to please a larger audience. GitS: Arise and new the movie changes the direction of franchise again becoming more similar to the first and second film but not as philosophical. Video is good but the whole picture is windowed, still needs a proper release.

Im only giving 3stars because i should of bought more to make the value worth it instead of getting hit by a shipping fee.... I love the design which the steelbook and slipcover are 2 different designs that blend together for a whole.... I still recommend it even so i paid more for it...

Great film, Non CG version, bad subs

This is the 25th anniversary version. Transfer is good for quality. All original 95 visuals no sub par CG. Sadly the subs are bad, really doesn't match the dialogue and hard to follow. Not sure why the older subs from the original DVD weren't used. Dub is good though, with original 95 English cast. If subs were better this would be a great version, but if you understand Japanese or enjoy watching in English it's as great as ever.

The first (or second?) Mondo steelbook to be released in the United States follows in the same footsteps as its Canadian and foreign predecessors. The packaging and artwork are astounding in typical Mondo fashion. The flip side is that the movie itself is a rehash of prior releases, so the only thing that justifies its purchase is upgrading to fancier packaging. For die hard fans only.

Not a great upgrade over a basic bluray... the case is ggorgeous so you can just get a bluray, buuut if you can find the 4k steelbook at a steal, and you don't own it, then pick it up.

The steelbook and slip are gorgeous, but unfortunately, the 4k disc isn't that much of a looker. Likely true to the source, it felt like watching an old DVD most of the time. Note: this was my first time watching the film

The movie is a classic, but it does not look like it had the treatment it deserves for this release. Some of the audio and subtitle issues have already been mentioned. There is simply no excuse for not having any bonus content for an anniversary edition. I think real fans would have to wait for yet another future edition and hope for a better release.
