Very new wave, sci-fi movie of revenge and how you got there to kill and be killed! New bodies, eyes, legs, ears and a nice shinny suit that is almost see-through for the main "Female" character. Good action, good plot and very nice effects. Scarlett is in her element, beating everybody up and looking good while doing it!

Ghost in the Shell got a lot of flak; and while it’s not a perfect movie; I really enjoyed it. The visual effects and design alone are worth seeing and the 4K Blu Ray was an obvious purchase for me.

A great display of a Neo Tokyo that is just a treat for the eyes. The plot is actually good, couldn't find any strong complaints to write about, would recommend for a sci-fi action movie.

I realize that based on the anime series that there were issues with the casting. In spite of that I found the movie entertaining and the blu-ray audio and video quality is high.

Not a bad movie but a bit formulaic. Star provides a good performance but the story has the limits of low creativity and over used tropes. Worth watching on a rain soaked day.

The Science Fiction movie is somewhat unique. Based in the future, it features the classic Hero VS Evil plot. That all changes as it progresses. Entertaining. I recommend.

I loved the original anime and seeing this in the big screen was great. They do change some things from the original story, but overall very entertaining.

It has beautiful visuals and some great fight choreography, I still prefer the original anime film over this one but it definitely worth a watch.

One of my favs. Great picture and music. Solid acting. I'm a Ghost anime fan but this picture should work with those who are not and know nothing about what a "ghost" is. Things are explained nicely by events. A rich story.

Surprised by the movie. It was not what I expected but it was a lot better than I thought it would be. Would recommend it and would watch it again.

It was an alright experience. Nothing amazing, but nothing terrible either. Makes me want to check out the original as the story is interesting.

I am not deeply familiar with the original Ghost in the Shell Anime - but I am aware of it, particularly the influences that fed into it, and the influence it would go on to have. So I'm not really one to judge whether this film was a faithful adaptation of the source material. What I can say is, this was a beautiful film with incredible production design! The cyberpunk setting is executed to perfection, recalling shades of Blade Runner, Syndicate/Syndicate Wars, and other seminal works. The look of the main characters was distinctive and interesting, with great casting (and - no surprise - Scarlett was stunning as usual). The story kept me engaged, with enough depth to tie the action sequences together, but admittedly a little shallow in the interest of keeping things moving. Little touches, like the brief cameo by Michael Wincott (a criminally underused actor, in my opinion) were appreciated as well. So what about the disc itself? Well, I would say it benefited from 4K resolution and HDR for sure. It is largely a dark movie, but there are a handful of scenes that really jump off the screen - the cityscapes are an obvious example, and another highlight (no pun intended) was the attack with the electrified cattle-prod type weapons.

First a short evaluation of Std Bluray vs 4K on a First I watched the std Blu Ray on my LG DB670 to get a feel for the image quality The I watched the same Bluray on a new LG-UP970 and then the 4K version on the LG-UP970 all on a 65" Sony X900e), The Blu-ray to Blu ray comparison on a 4K player; the 4k player certainly improved the std output,mostly in the darker scenes where more detail could be seen "in the shadows"; and the new player was much faster to get started and react to commands. No onto bluray vs 4K... well initially is was just better, but as the action got more intense the quality of fast moving images the picture improved, they we more three dimensional, the shadows had more content to them, the wide angle shots were gorgeous. With really no way to exactly compare side by side images, the original blu ray, seemed flatter, the 4K version was voluptuous (in a good way) just more ripe with detail. On to Ghost in a Shell, again the colors and cinematography were outstanding, and with the movis have many "dark" scenes where picture were outstanding. I'm officially a fan of 4K films. Ghost in a Shell tells a scary story of "Drs" making quality decision and then doing more research to improve their 'product' discarding that deemed inferior; don't think this give anything away, but the "Dr" never expected their research subject to interact with each other.... It a good suspenseful sci-fi movie, that really touches on moral decisions.

This movie has received a lot of negative and controversial reviews like the Hollywood phenomena of white washing and just unfaithfulness to the source material, both from critics and consumers. I love the Ghost in the Shell franchise. It was one of the first animes I saw back in the mid 90s and it has stayed with me as a measuring system for other movies, particularly cyber punk and other anime. This movie, though it removes a lot of the philosophical elements that made Ghost in the Shell great, it does a very faithful job as an adaptation. I approached this film, not as something replacing or re-doing what's already been done, but as a tribute. I love going to the theater and so I've seen like 12 different versions of Hamlet, all of them drastically different, but holding on to the same material. I approach cinema the same way and maybe that's why I enjoyed this movie. The movie recreates many of the iconic scenes and though it doesn't really add much too the film, it does leave out parts that I think made fans upset. I wasn't really planning to buy this, If found it rather mediocre, but I see now it's cheap plus it includes the Dvd, Blue-ray and a digital copy. I'd like to rewatch this film and study it a bit more, but I think it's also entertaining. All the actors did a superb job and the sets are amazing. I feel this film got harsher criticism than it deserved

First, I've been a fan of the original 1990 manga by Masamune Shirow. I was also very impressed with the 1995 anime film. So I'm afraid that after hearing initial lukewarm to bad reviews, I kept putting off seeing this movie until I missed the theatrical release. However, I am very pleased to say that this live action version of the film delivered on a lot of levels - color me impressed! Although the director chose to exactly replicate key moments from the anime instead of producing a truly unique take on the material, I do applaud the effort. And if given a choice between honoring the source material versus a complete Hollywood rewrite to appeal to the taste of a perceived "current movie audience" (hyper-fast and incoherent editing, CGI overload, and major destruction/bombast at every turn)… Well, I'd choose the former every time! This story, like many of my sci-fi favorites, deals with a lot of cool themes: sense of self, what is consciousness, what does it mean to be truly human, the vital connection to others, etc. Like Blade Runner, Total Recall and Moon, Ghost in the Shell needs time to unfold the story and let experiences impact the characters. And speaking of characters, ignorant outcries of whitewashing regarding the role of Major-- All I need to say is if you're familiar with the source material, then you would see how misguided those protests are. Sad, self-righteous people just looking for a trigger to be offended… pathetic. I regret not seeing this in the theater-- It's a gorgeous visual feast, tells a great story, and has a high rewatchability factor! And I'm a big fan of the gorgeous steelbook graphics as well… Two thumbs up!
