Comedy's better in twos: GHOSTBUSTERS 1 and 2 GHOSTBUSTERS: This is it -- the first comedy that dared to cross big-budget fantasy/SFX with 2nd City silliness. It opened up the genre in a way that hadn't been seen since Abbott and Costello met Framkenstein. And it was the first movie to take the top summer box office away from Lucas and/or Spielberg in many years. Not an easy feat back then. This movie is silly and grand and spooky at the same time. I can't say the clarity of Blu Ray makes it any funnier, but it does bring out the beautiful colors and the surprising special effects especially in the final climax. If you like your comedy big and epic, "Ghostbusters" is the one to call. GHOSTBUSTERS 2: The summer of 1989 was one of the biggest summers ever for movies. Expectations were high for so many films and sequels, and none moreso than the sequel to the biggest comedy of the decade, inventively called Ghostbusters 2. Unfortunately, the innovative silliness had worn thin by the second go-around. There's some good bits but overall the film falls flat and feels repetitive.
