Average gaming power and quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Gigabyte makes excellent motherboards so I though I would try their laptops. While this is not the top of the line, is does provide enough power and speed for the FPS games I play. Video quality is great with no glare at any angle. The speakers are not something to brag about, but then again, it is best to play with a good headset. The keyboard only lights up in one color or at least I have not found a way to change color from the stock teal bluish. The touch pad is very responsive and has marker for 4 different areas to play. This particular model I received has a clicking sound when opening the screen from the left corner as if it was touching the bottom bezel. It is a bit heavier than a non-gaming, same size laptop I have. It heats up quite a bit when using high video demand and performance games and the fans get a bit loud, however, this is not a major issue when using a noise-canceling headset. I usually upgrade the RAM and HD but this model does quite well right out of factory. I it is a bit too heavy to carry around compare to other models with the same specs. It has enough USB connectors for additional back up drives. The battery does run out quickly while playing so it is best to use the power connector which has a straight as opposed to an L shape connector. All in all, it is an average gaming machine, with great potential for other tasks.

Solid gaming laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unboxing this laptop the first thing I noticed was how beefy it is. For a 16" laptop, which I have a couple of similar size, it is noticeably heavier. But it also did give me a feeling of a well built solid laptop that may be able to take some abuse. I understand that gaming laptops has different hardwre and software that probably needs more components than regular ones, therefore the size and weight. This being a entry level laptop, I was very happy witth it's performance and design all the way around. First the screen is bright and sharp. The bezel around the screen is a good size meaning not big which I don't like. Makes me feel the screen is smaller than it actually is. Trackpad is centered and smooth. No issues with tracking with my fingers. Travel and size on the keys where nice, I didn't feel cluttered and didn't have any issues with hitting the wrong keys. Screen is hinged so it will go to 180 degrees, so very adjustable. Plenty of ports to attach most of what I needed. As for gaming itself, I found no issues in any of the games I play. It was smooth and without lag. Mind you, I'm a casual gamer. Nothing that is graphic intensive like some other's in my house. The only thing that I found as a negative is that the fan did kick on a lot and was a little loud. The laptop did get warm at times, but nothing that had me worried. Did really is a solid gaming laptop and I can see that it can definitely even useful as a work laptop, even though it might not be the most portable.

Versatile RTX 4050 Gaming Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have spent a couple weeks with the GIGABYTE GAMING A16 series, and so far, it brings a good combination of gaming performance with day to day productivity, no complaints. I has a good first impression straight out of the box. The laptop has a solid build and Black Steel finish which looks solid and understated. GIGABYTE's Golden Curve Keyboard provides a comfortable typing experience with a reassuring amount of key travel to allow for comfort for both writing and gaming with ease. Internally, the 32 Gb of DDR5 RAM and Intel Core i7-13620H processor keeps the PC running smoothly. I tested the system with many browser tabs open and a VM running. Even while running a lightweight game, I did not experience anything noticeable. Even when diving into more demanding games, the GeForce RTX 4050 card plays games well at high settings, in 1080p resolution. I was averaging around 60 - 70 FPS on the new AAA titles. The 165 Hz, 16:10 display provides a nice smooth experience while playing fast paced games while allowing for a bit more vertical screen space for pages and web pages with spreadsheets. Storage performance is solid since you will find a 512 GB Gen4 SSD. Windows 11 booted in less than 10 seconds, and applications loaded almost instantly. If you need more storage space, the chassis supports a 4 TB SSD too. One downside would be the fans can get loud when they are under load. The battery life was peaking around 4 - 5 hours off of mixed use so you will want to stay near an outlet for long periods of time, and the stereo speakers which are only internally and are enhanced with Dolby Atmos, sound decent, but could use more bass. Overall, the GAMING A16 is a great system and delivers on performance for the price point. Overall, I think that if you want gaming performance that will be reliable for other daily tasks as well, the GAMING A16 makes sense!

Nice mid tier gaming laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Gigabyte A16 gaming laptop is a great laptop for those wanting to get into PC/ portable gaming without breaking the bank. You get very good overall performance, with a couple things that are upgradeable. The laptop itself has an amazing build and design that I really like. Especially the large logo on the bottom. Most companies wouldnt care to think about the look of the bottom, but the attention to detail here is awesome. My favorite color on devices is matte black so I love its looks a lot. Its got a nice heft to it, but not too heavy. It also has all the ports you will ever need. The 1900X1200 screen looks great with a nice high 165Hz refresh rate. This makes for some very nice detail and smoothness that really adds the immersion. As far as performance goes it has a Intel Core i7-13620H Processor and a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 GPU, combined with a 512gb SSD and 16gb of DDR5 Ram that allows very good gameplay and overall performance. 1080P gameplay is plenty for me. Battery life is on par with most other gaming laptops and of course completely depends on what you are doing. Heavy gameplay from something like a first person shooter is going to zap it a lot faster then something like a puzzle game. But overall I am OK with the battery life. The Dolby Atmos speakers sound pretty good for small speakers. You can crank them up and still get very good clear audio. Of course bass isnt going to blow you away, but that is to be expected. Overall I am happy with this gaming laptop. It is the perfect entry level laptop to get into gaming. Its not going to be playing Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K, but most games play nice at 720 and 1080p.

Awesome Value for Money
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop will be classed as entry-level, but the processor, graphics card, general build quality, and display quality mean you're getting a lot more for this "beginner's" model than you would with a laptop priced at least twice as much. The first thing that may give a buyer pause is the RTX 4050, which isn't as adept at handling the high end graphics as other graphics cards and is kind of a "budget" card. This works beautifully with the 1080p laptop display, though! The pair - the display and the card - work extremely well together, and you'll have no trouble with games (even more demanding ones) provided the settings are capped at 1080p. And the display is of such good quality, you won't care that you're not playing at a higher resolution. The laptop and graphics card are equipped with enough RAM to handle a heavy gaming load, so you won't have to worry about upgrading your system shortly after it's out of the box. The build quality is pretty solid overall, with no audible squeaks or flexes near the hinges or the edges of the laptop frame. Despite being a large machine, it's not uncomfortable to hold or work with for extended periods of time (though it does get a bit warm from time to time). My only real gripe has to do with the size of the keyboard. It feels a bit squished, especially when you take the gigantic track pad into account. They keyboard isn't uncomfortable to use, and the keys have excellent responsiveness and travel. They just feel a little... crammed, but this could just be me. Lastly, I didn't expect a gaming laptop to ship with an i7 for a price this low, and it's a powerhouse. This machine will handle anything you throw at it and it's CPU performance really impressed me. Highly recommended to people looking to get in to gaming, or to anyone who simply enjoys a great value.

Good Enough
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a casual gamer, this pc is great. For me, it checks all of the boxes one would look for who enjoys gaming at a not too serious level. It's look amazing. A little heavier than I thought it would be, but is extremely portable and durable. The 16 size makes it a perfect screen and the graphics are great as well. As I mentioned it checks all of the boxes one would look for in a gaming laptop. It's stacked with all of the ports needed from usb c to hdmi to usb a. Battery life is satisfactory along with the cooling fans to keep things cool in the heat of whatever game you're playing. The audio is mediocre but it's not a big deal for me because I just connect to a bluetooth speaker to get better sound if needed. With 64gb of ram, I haven't had issues with lagging during gameplay but I really haven't tested the limits. I like that there's room to upgrade if I did run into problems with RAM or storage. This is a beautiful laptop with multiple uses. THere's no way one can go wrong should they select to buy this pc.

Soild (meaning heavy) ENTRY LEVEL gamer laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price under a thousand dollars, this is a capable laptop. The CPU is i7 13th generation, with 16 G of RAM. Solid state hard drive is half a terabyte (512 GB)-plenty of room (until you run out)-but no memory card slot, which is a shame. The screen is full HD (1900 x 1200) IPS / LED (non touch) and it's beautiful. The refresh rate is 165 hz - right for most games. The GPU is RTX 4050 (not bad really). Took almost all day to download Windows 11 Home patches and updates. No fault of Gigabyte (nor any computer makers out there), but those users who have never used Windows may find it frusterating. There is no numeral keypad - this keeps the size down (16 inch screen). It comes with GiMate - Gigabyte's own program - and it deals with various settings (including update that Windows Update doesn't can't find). Dolby Atmos makes Netflix shows (or others) fun to watch. There is no optical drive (hardly any laptops come with one now), but my external blu-ray drive works fine with it. It's not something you may want to carry around (say, to class) - as the box it came in was > 10 pounds, and the laptop itself is almost shoulder-breaking. Thankfully the power supply isn't that big (compared to another brand). RAM can be expanded per their website to 64 GB (and SSD too), but I am not ready for that. The screen opens up all the way to 180 degree ("hinge design"). This means it opens up to a flat position. Some people may find it useful (but the screen isn't touch-sensitive.. ) Time to try some games. I have some old (and recent) games that were recomplied for current Windows. Dead Space, Quake 4, BioShock Remaster, Aliens vs Predator. I ran these games at the maximum settings and they didn't studder. The screen responded as it should (and beautifully, too). I also tried StreamFab and was able to download a show and played a game at the same time-no hick ups there. Lastly I installed and ran Nuance Dragon Medical (voice dictation). It works perfectly fine. The computer is fast enough for real time voice dictation (and even for a slower computer, the program will buffer the data anyway). The driver for Nvidia card natually had to be updated. It takes time to download this. Battery life? I charged it up and let it run for about 8 hours and the battery life was down to 25%. (Note: you could and should go to Windows' power setting and play around with how much power it uses..) USB 3, HDMI, ethernet, USB 2 connections are there. But no memory card slot??!!! By the way the GiMate, if you dig deeper into what it can do, you can play around with user interface by downloading models from hugging face. This is quite complicated and I am still learning.. Just remember-this has RTX 4050 GPU, and it's an ENTRY LEVEL GPU. It works, but don't expect it to be anything more (you kinda get what you pay for (for a laptop) except when it comes to 4090 or 5090 which aren't exactly the same as the desktop ones. So if you need a GPU with a load of memory built in, this is not it. But it does play games that I have well at 1080p. Is worth the money? For what it is - yes. You can't and shouldn't expect more out of this. But if you want to use it for business or school, it's a fine computer. It feels solid (it's heavy) and should last a while. You kinda get what you pay for when it comes to high end laptop (you'd get more if this were a desktop and you know this), but it's a capable laptop that should be able to do what you need with it. Recommended - if you know what you are doing.

A decent entry-level gaming laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With the advent of devices like the Steam Deck, which make getting into PC gaming much cheaper and more accessible than ever before, it's a little difficult to justify the cost of a full-fledged gaming laptop, even a budget one. There may be compatibility issues, and there may be some games you just can't play, but for most people, the Steam Deck is an excellent place to start exploring what Steam and gaming on non-console devices is like. With that said, it's hard to deny the additional functionality of gaming laptops for applications outside of games, and if that's something you care about, I think this is a great place to get into it. It's got a number of quirks. For starters, it doesn't charge over USB C, or least it doesn't as far as I could find. The charger included is a standard barrel-jack charger. There's a USB C port on the laptop, but it doesn't seem to accept power delivery. Not a big deal, but it's a little annoying if you're like me and like to have as few extra chargers around as possible. The keyboard backlight is permanently stuck at the shade of blue shown in the promotional photos. It is not RGB, it can only be that blue, or turned off. Speaking of it being turned off, it seems to only turn on when the laptop is plugged in. There may be some setting to change that somewhere, but I couldn't find it with a cursory search. There's only 16 gigs of RAM. I imagine it's upgradable (I didn't open it up to check), and you're probably going to want to do that. With some more RAM heavy tasks running, it can start to get a little bogged down. With all those caveats out of the way, I really should iterate that this is a fantastic computer, and performed much better than I expected. It's fast - you can get to webpages and navigate the computer without having to wait longer than an app or website's splash screen, or however long it takes for your internet to catch up. It games, and significantly better than I thought. I didn't test with particularly intense games - Dark Souls Remastered, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, Elden Ring DLC - but in all of those games, it ran at either medium or high settings at a clean 60 frames per second. The screen has a high refresh rate, so if it's not FPS locked, you could probably do better than that and it would be worthwhile. The screen's colors are a little washed out, compared to something like my HDR QLED television, but that's not a fair comparison. It looks great, and it's matte, so you don't have to deal with glare. It has solid viewing angles. It's great. The speakers on this also surprised me. They get loud, and they sound crisp and clear. They lack bass, but that's pretty par for the course with laptop speakers. These impressed me. I think this is a great gaming laptop for people who don't want to make a massive financial investment into it, but want more flexibility than something like a Steam Deck offers. You'll be able to play most of the games you want to without having to worry about tweaking settings too much. You could probably upgrade RAM and storage for pretty cheap, too, but again, I never opened it up to check. Would definitely recommend.

Great gaming on a budget... with limitations
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While this isn’t the prettiest or the most powerful gaming laptop, the GIGABYTE A16 does well what it needs to do… game! Before I could get to gaming, I, like many others, had the hardest time just getting the laptop up and running. I got stuck in several failed windows update loops during setup. Even after setup, windows updates dragged on (in fact a week later I still have a Windows update lingering in the background at the same 94% since day 1). However, once I got the laptop up and running it was game time. Download speeds are great, my Steam downloads were hitting my max bandwidth for the office side of my house. It also has an ethernet port alongside 3x USB-As, 1x USB-C, 1x HDMI, and luckily, still, a headphone jack. Gaming on the actual laptop is decent, you can see the raw power under the hood but unfortunately it’s lost on the poor IPS display and weak, tinny speakers. In terms of performance, I’ve had no issue running many indie games as expected based on the i7 and RTX 4050. I wanted to throw at it Elden Ring because who doesn’t love Elden Ring. It worked mostly great! See below the settings but I was averaging around 60fps. However there were occasional, significant dips, dropping all the way down to 25fps briefly before back up to the 50-60 window. It seemed to become less and less the longer I played, maybe due to shaders being cached in the background. I also wanted to play a more-resource intensive game so I booted up Pacific Drive, again see below for settings) and I was getting an average of 50fps with much less hiccups. Elden Ring: ~55fps Avg (but with some major occasional dips), full resolution, Maximum graphics settings, no ray-tracing Pacific Drive: ~50fps Avg, full resolution, ultra graphics settings, no ray-tracing I think this goes into my next point of, if you have this much cash to spend and are debating a handheld or a gaming laptop, it really depends on what you are looking for. For Pacific Drive, I have to crank the settings down to medium and even then I’m getting like 30fps. Playable but not anything to write home about. My handheld was the same price. It is more convenient since this laptop is large, but also this is going to get you a lot more power for the buck. At its price right now, it’s a solid budget gaming laptop choice. On a sale, this could be a killer deal… as long as you come in knowing the limitations of the storage, the display, and the speakers. Pros: Solid price for great performance All the ports you could need 512GB storage doesn’t get you many games these days Variable refresh rate display Cons: Had to restart during setup due to failed windows update Severely limited on battery (graphics not available, processor severely throttled) Updates after setup were taking literal hours while steam downloaded at full speed Display is a rather subpar IPS Speakers are weak and tinny, but you won’t necessarily hear them over the fan noise.

Good gaming laptop with a slim profile
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The GIGABYTE Gaming A16 laptop is a good gaming laptop for those on a budget. It comes with a 16" 165Hz 1920x1200 WQXGA screen. The screen quality and color saturation is pretty good. It’s not as good as some of my higher end laptops, but it’ll suffice. It has an Intel Core i7-13620H processor. I thought it would be a lot faster, but it’s not as fast as I would like for some games and certain tasks. It has plenty of space for files and downloading games with its 512 GB SSD drive along with 16 GB of RAM. I noticed the laptop wasn’t as fast as another laptop I own when it comes to downloading files for a game I wanted to play. I had both devices side by side sitting close to my WiFi router. This laptop download speed was about 25% slower than my other laptop. I ended up plugging this laptop up to my Ethernet port so it would be comparable to the speed of my other laptop that was using WiFi. The keys on the keyboard are of good size and have good key travel. The keys have backlighting that can be turned off if needed by using the keyboard combination of Fn + Spacebar. The trackpad was decent. It’s not the best and tend to lag slightly at times. I will most likely revert to using a mouse with this laptop. This laptop is very portable for a gaming laptop. Other gaming laptops I’ve used are bulky and heavy. This gaming laptop would be good for traveling and on the go. Overall, this isn’t the fastest gaming laptop out there, but for those on a budget this will get the job done.

Decent entry-level gaming laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've spent a week with the A16, and used it for a variety of tasks, from schoolwork to streaming, and some light to moderate gaming. I am not a huge gamer, and many of the games I play might not excite the avid gamers, but they can bog down a lesser unit and make it run hot. In the case of the A16, the processor is quick and handles schoolwork, everyday tasks, and light gaming super smoothly. Typing feels great with super responsive keys, and a nice layout which makes it so it’s easy to knock out assignments or type for long stretches without getting annoyed. In fact, I love how nice the keyboard is for typing. Often, gaming laptops don't focus on ergonomics, but the A16 is extremely comfortable to spend a long time on, with solid, tactile keys, and a cool surface. Graphics are solid too but nothing overly crazy. It handled my war games and simulators and Hearts of Iron 4 without too much trouble. The fan’s not loud either, which is super convenient and not distracting when gaming or working on various assignments. I was able to play Sea of Thieves with friends online without too many issues, except for one: the Wi-Fi. During downloads, gaming, streaming, or working online; I noticed connection speeds would suddenly drop off. Thinking it must be my network, I tried several different checks on my router and mesh system but couldn't find anything wrong. It got a little frustrating when I was in the middle of something online or trying to install updates, games, software etc. Other than that, its a well-rounded laptop, and gets the job done for both productivity and light gaming. If you don’t need top tier specs but want something that feels good to use and holds up through everyday use, it is definitely worth looking into.

Very nice laptop for the entry level gamer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My unboxing of the Gigabyte gaming a16 - 16" laptop was a pleasant experience. The quality was pretty obvious when I pulled the laptop out of its cloth bag. It felt sturdy and solid. I plugged it in, powered it on and the setup process for this laptop was a breeze. With the Intel Core i7-13620H and the RTX 4050, this is a solid entry level gaming laptop. It can handle most modern games without issue. There is the option to upgrade the RAM, but I had no issues with the 16GB DDR5 single channel RAM that comes installed. The keyboard is full size ten keyless. The keys have a nice travel and pressure making for a comfortable typing experience but I wish I could change the backlight color. The display is very nice- bright colors and great refresh for smooth motions. Sound was much nicer that previous experiences with laptops. Sound was clean with pretty decent bass. The battery life lasted for about 4 hours but I rarely use the battery saver settings. I prefer performance settings at all times so I can understand the battery not lasting all day. My only ding on this laptop is that the power adapter wasn't a USB-C port. I think using the adapter plug that it comes with is a step down. It's a small thing but why not use the C port power options and add an additional C Port on the opposite side of the other two to allow for some versatility. I would recommend this laptop for any casual or newbie gamer.

Good price for good performance.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The A16 Laptop is a good performer at a descent price. It has 3 USB-A ports, 1 USB-C port, a headset port, a full-size HDMI port and an RJ45 ethernet port for wired internet. Its power adapter does not share the USB-C port, instead it has a dedicated power jack. It used a full size NVME 2280 drive size; to install a smaller 2230 you would need an adapter. It has an empty memory slot, I assume you could install more memory, I don’t think they would bother putting the empty slot on the board if it could not use it. The touch pad is a really good size and is very responsive. Watching full frame video, I played a movie for 2 full hours at a normal listening level, and it took the battery from 100% down to 81%. After that it still registered over 9 hours of run time available. I believe the run time might be a little less than the reported 9+ hours because it took 19% for 2 hours of use, only time will tell. The battery charged back up fast enough once plugged back it. When unplugged from the power adapter the display dims and the power of the system is cut back some, it also seemed to turn off the NVIDIA GPU. While playing games, with the power adapter plugged in, it consistently produced 280FPS with a normal amount of fan noise. There is a backlit keyboard that only seems to be blue. This could be from the software issues I had, or it could just be blue. In either case the blue backlight was easy on the eyes. There is no lighted power button, the button is easy to see but is not lit at all. There are lights on the side for charge and power. For the size of the laptop, I would have liked to see a number pad, but there is not one. The software issues I mentioned came from an out of the box setup/install of Windows 11 that was, to say the least, broken. It refused to finish updates taking HOURS to do basically nothing but wasting time. I tried every possible “Reset this PC” option to no avail. On every attempt it would finish after many hours and still be unable to install Windows updates and be very sluggish. I contacted Gigabyte about the defective restore partition, they responded fast and gave me the link to download and install all preinstalled drivers and their basic software package. Once the drive was formatted clean, and a clean download of Windows 11 was installed, I reinstalled all the drivers and software from the supplied link. This time around it took only about an hour total to fully set it up and download and install all updates from Microsoft. So, for whatever reason the restore partition was corrupted on the unit I received. It's all good now with a fresh install of Windows NOT using anything that was preinstalled on the recovery partition. The laptop is running smooth and is quick to respond. My bottom line is that once the Windows 11 installation was corrected it is a good usable, affordable laptop with good battery life and plenty of power to play some of the latest games. 1 start taken off only because if I didn't know how to format and install Windows from an external drive this unit would not have been usable.

Great entry level gaming laptop at decent price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For an avid gamer, you want a solid machine that can handle anything you throw at it and especially graphics and speed. I have owned a few different gaming laptops and some very fast and higher end. This laptop I would say is good for an entry into the gaming computer world, decent enough size screen at 16 inches, entry level processor that can handle most games and moderate graphics interface. This is nothing compared to some of the insane higher priced models on the market, still it can handle everyday tasks like work and school and internet browsing while it can also handle streaming shows and movies. What I did like about this system was it was not a lot of bells and whistles that sometimes bog down a system and create complications. This is basic, straight forward and easy to set up and start using. Not only is it decently priced, it still can keep up with most of the latest games, granted the graphics wont be as great, but its well worth it if you are just starting out in gaming.

Gaming performance at Great price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very nice laptop! This thing is NICE! Standard packing and unbox. Get the laptop and charger. Charger is USB end. Build is nice and seems rugged. Screen sits nicely over the top with no exposed hindges. Nor does the screen hindge around the back. Screen is 16" with high refresh rate. Great for gaming and smooth image. Paired with the 4050 Graphics card. It will handle whatever game you throw at it. Power is good. Able to do all tasks. Never really had any lagging while using. Mated with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. All are expandable to 64GB RAM and 4TB storage. Fit and finish are really nice. All smooth lines to the body. Full kbd that is illuminated Lots of real estate space on the machine. I really wish they would have added a few media buttons for volume. Large track pad is usefull. Ventilation is very good - Vents places bottom, rear, and side. Works very well to displace heat and fan noise is at a minimum. Overall, nice laptop with gaming performance at a reasonable price. Ability to increase specs is a HUGE bonus.

It's very sleek and the black is very nice. The biggest downside I have with it is the material used for it. It is a bit "cheap." You can tell it's plastic and that's not necessarily a good thing. It doesn't feel like it will just break unnecessarily, but it's definitely a downside for what is a great gaming laptop. I'm very pleased with the i7 core and the 4050 graphics card it has. Its very capable of running competitive games and it does it all without hiccups. Running more modern games at max settings does take a set back but you'll be able to play with a decent FPS on it still. I suggest making the settings lower to ensure a steady fps. The keyboard layout is great and doesn't look goofy either. Being a TKL keyboard ensures the layout doesn't look clunky and it looks to be more professional that you can use for office work and not just gaming. The keyboard is lit and Gigabyte does provide software support as well. It's a solid laptop for a solid price.
