Can say i know Gintama till i watch it. At first i was deeply worry that i was going to hate this, but it's like watching an actual Manga. Didn't get the characters at first but it made sense at the end, Dont worry if the film feels childish and stupid, but if you see it like your watch an actual manga, this is how it actually looks like and it is. Ofcourse it also depends on the manga. Warning this is no Naruto Shippuden or Akira, if you do you will be most definitely be disappoint. It's very goofy and don't expect some serious action but fun to watch.

Was surprised to find this at a best buy as this seems to be not a popular anime here in the US. But it happens to be my favorite anime! This live action adaptation is very true to the series. Very cool to see live action actors accurately playing my favorite characters. The only drawback is this is yet ANOTHER retelling of the Benizakura story arc. There's plenty of other story arcs of the series more deserving of a movie adaptation.

This movie shows that it's possible to pull off a live-action adaptation of an anime/manga series. Sadly, some of the subtitle translations are off, but it's still a fun movie.

So like other page to screen films, eg Cashern, Gintama delivers for many fans but is asking a lot of the uninitiated. if you like fast flashy weird films then try it.

Based right off the anime. I was hoping it’d be a different story line but great acting for a real-life anime-based movie.

As a big fan of the Gintama anime series since 2011. I was kind of skeptical to see how well. This live action adaptation could portray the world of Edo (Tokyo in modern day Japan) and the anime’s popular cast of characters. Such as the main characters Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura. But this live action adaptation does the anime justice. From the wacky one off scenes that leave you going “wait, is this still the main show or filler?” To the funny banter between those three and other characters. I was laughing and smiling a bunch of times. And the main actor Shun Oguri is definitely Gintoki in real life for me now. He did a fantastic job along with rest of the cast. If any Gintama fan is wondering this movie retells the events of the Benizakura arc. Which is one of the most famous arcs in the series. But if you haven’t seen the anime or this arc in particular. I’d recommend watching that first. Because the one thing I will say is this show has a lot of references to other anime and Japanese culture in general. And the action scenes are good. The CGI becomes more noticeable as you go along though. Looking forward to the sequel that’s coming out too! Hopefully it’ll get localized as well.

Thought it was anime but its live action anime is the best description I can think. Has action, fights and just crazy scenes. If you are into anime go for it and want something different.

I recently saw this in a Best Buy and thought it looked really interesting. I opened my phone and watched the trailer online and knew that this movie would be a perfect addition to my movie collection. Its bright and full of color and just a fun movie to watch.

Goofy movie. I expected more, but it was a pretty goofy movie. The action was not bad, but the special effects and costumed “aliens” were really low budget.

I will admit I am not really into anime movies that much. It was interesting, but I felt the whole story was drawn out a bit to long for my taste.

The 2017 Gintama movie is one of the best movies of the year and ever made! However the BluRay is terrible, it does not have extras like the story with Sugo´s sister. And they force you to see the trailers of 2 waful South Korean movies.
