After years of being shown in black-and-white only public domain copies, Kino Lorber has finally released this film based on the UCLA restoration, and it's a beauty! Now, for the first time, the Technicolor sequences are shown in color, which brings Ziegfeld's costumes and headdresses to life. The black-and-white portions and the sound quality too, are greatly improved. Offered as extras on this glistening showcase of the past are LA CUCARACHA, the first three-color Technicolor live action short film in a stunningly restored print with beautifully enhanced picture and sound, along with a 7 minute travelouge short about Hollywood and a 2 minute clip of Ziegfeld rehearsing chorines for an (unnamed) show. Richard Barrios, author of A SONG IN THE DARK, offers a commentary track. This is a very worthwhile disc for the fans of early sound cinema.
