If you like magnificent acting, history, cinematography and let me say it again acting. This cast is made for this film like a tailored suit. The emotions you get from these performances are nothing short of amazing. It is a roller coaster ride. The writing takes you all through an historical setting and time in the Cival War that is loaded with increditable emotions and factual realism. You will be captured from the minute the movie starts to the end. If you do not find yourself emotionally choked up at the beginning of the last sequence to the final end of the movie than I must have missed something. I am not one who believes in giving the story away but I can say Denzel Washington' s protrayal and execution of character growth within the setting of this movie, of his part, is nothing short of brilliant. It is one of the greatest assemble cast work I have seen, I could not notice one actor who stole from the assemble. Rent it, watch it and I will give you odds it will be in your collection if you do collect within no time.

Glory is a story of a minor regiment that had a profound impact on the future of blacks in the Union Army. One can still see the prejudice that is held by many of the North and how the race is view as a whole, but it also give the view of what they had to endure amongst themselves. As for actors selected, I found Matthew Brokerick and Cary Elwes harder to believe in thier roles of Col Shaw and Major Forbes, but that may just be I had seen them star in comedies before and this was the first major drama that I saw them in. As for the black actors, they did very will and were very believable in thier roles. Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman are dramatic actors and fit thier roles like a silk glove on a lady's hand. For those that are historian buffs that do not mind the added elements that Hollywood adds for story, then this is one that should be considered as a part of any Civil War buff's collection.

I've always loved Glory, but ended up buying this Blu-Ray because my son watched a scene in his grade 8 history class and wanted to see the whole film. It's an important story that needed to be told, but the film also has some great cinematic photography and musical score. I've heard sections of James Horner's score from Glory used in so many trailers for other films that it has become that epic score that everyone recognizes, but can't identify. What really impressed me about this disc is the depth of mini-documentaries about the real people involved in the events surrounding the film. I highly recommend.

Based on the writings of the regiments young commanding officer to his family, the story tracks the formation of the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts, the first black regiment to fight for the North in the Civil War, from their formation as a rag tag crew with no discipline or uniforms to their transformation into well disciplined fighting regiment that volunteered for an impossible mission. Half the regiment, including their CO, died that fateful day. President Lincoln was made aware of their valor on that fateful day and the rules were changed with many more Black Regiments being formed in the Union Army. Some academic's attribute these regimental formations as the reason the North won the Civil War.

Saw this movie many years ago in school and it opened my eyes to an aspect of the Civil War I'd never considered before: black soldiers helping to free themselves and their enslaved race. The movie is based on the true story of one of the early colored regiments in the Union army and illuminates the issues of discrimination that they faced in terms of pay, supplies, and capability even among their fellow (white) soldiers and from their army superiors. The actors chosen do a wonderful job of bringing this story to life and expressing the diversity of backgrounds among the soldiers. Good film and special features.

When I first encountered this film at the cinema, years ago, I knew I wanted to add it to my video collection. Now that it is available in HD on Blu-ray I have finally done so and glad I did. This film tells a little known story from American History that deserves wide recognition -- an important reminder of the price paid for the freedoms we enjoy today. Beyond that though, this is also an entertaining film that features excellent performance from a most talented cast. This is a worthy addition to your video collection and a film you will watch again.

Even though it is a bit dramatized, Glory is one of the first films to highlight the courage of both free black men and aristocratic white men in Northern States during the 19th century American Civil War. While there are examples of black men fighting in earlier American wars, this film makes a fairly successful attempt to illustrate how the collision of general prejudice and progressive political ideals of the time compel a regiment of men to serve with distinguished honor and courage against military, social, and even self-perpetuated enemies. A good film to watch!

I was too young the first time I viewed this, about 10yrs old and all meaning and significance was lost on me. Later In high school I remember watching and discussing it in my classes for black history month. And since that time I have really come to appreciate the film and it is my favorite war movie. It has all star cast, Denzel Washington's Oscar winning performance, and I absolutely adore James Horner's moving score (also worth purchasing if you can find it)! Definitely a worthy addition to any movie collection!

Still holds up as a sentimentalized portraiture of newly freed men and their desire to serve in war. War is no joke and along with the seriousness of the engagement, and the necessity of obeying orders (the latter then turned to romanticize the bravery of doing so), comes the fear and isolation even on a field surrounded by dying friends and enemies. In some ways it's better for soldiers to think of themselves as already dead. Certainly for some it shows in their inability to cope back at home. War kills now and later.

I've seen this movie and have a thing for history. Though the movie glamorizes the actual civil war story (what movie doesn't), it still shows the tenacity of a soldier willing to fight and the issues the northern white folks (including military officers) still had with African-American soldiers! I gave the movie 4 stars because the Blu-Ray didn't enhance the movie much. Then again, most of these era movies (Terminator comes to mind) weren't shot that high-res as today.

This was another movie I had been looking for for years. Found this one in the $9.99 Savestation, so I couldn't pass it up. I loved Matthew Broderick's work in this movie. This is a great Civil War movie about a white commander of black soldiers. I think the most poignant scene of the movie is how one white soldier in particular comes to respect his African-American counterpart during battle. If you appreciate historical movies, look no further than this movie.

Can’t shy away from the importance this film has on showcasing the history of our nation! Young Denzel and Freeman are phenomenal in this film. Pq looks clean and updated given for its time. Aq is a little lacking in the vocal department and a few moments where bass is a little loose. Overall it’s the best version of the film available!

I had seen this movie before and was impressed with the story, production, and acting. When I saw it in the discount bin in Blue Ray format, I had to buy it. Some people don't like war movies but this one tells the story of a Civil War brigade from Massachusetts comprised of African Americans and the tribulations they went through to become a crack military unit.

Set in the height of the Civil War, the Union established an all-black infantry to fight against the Confederacy. Staring Mathew Broderick, Morgan Freedman, and Denzel Washington (won an academy award for his performance), they go through the struggle of an infantry to be given supplies and convincing higher ranked generals to fight for the Union.

This film is a wonderful tribute to the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, the first Civil War unit to be exclusively comprised of Black soldiers. Performances across the board are excellent and the special features are educational and entertaining. The video and audio quality is top rate. I highly recommend Glory as a worthwhile purchase

A most wonderful movie that moves along with the daily lives of the first black volunteers and their officers who fought in the Civil War. This also covers some of the prejudices they suffered with both those whose side they were fighting with and also their enemies. The subject matter is so relevant.

It goes without saying, Glory is one of the best (war) movies of all time. The acting is excellent. Hard subject matter to watch, but very well done. Watching it in a 4k remaster does make the film feel more vivid and intense. Absolutely worth upgrading to the improved picture if you own on dvd.

This movie will interest anyone interested in the civil war. It tells the war from a perspective rarely seen in mainstream accounts of the civil war. In addition, the extras, especially the interactive battlefield maps are a great addition to the blu-ray. The sale price these were available at sweetened hte deal even more.

This has always been a favorite war movie. I saw it in Junior High the first time and it left a powerful impression on me. Great movie. The blu-ray quality was very good. Audio quality was excellent, big booming cannons and the like during battle sequences and the video quality was very good.
