It's Kreator (Utterly essential for any metal fan)

The main thing I feel listening to this is excitement. Excitement at listening to new Kreator, excitement at listening to Kreator at all, and excitement that Gods of Violence is so darn good! One of the reasons why Kreator have always been so good is that they have always put the song first. Production, musicianship, performance; all of these things are important and Kreator have them all as they need them to be, but ultimately it’s the quality of the song and the songwriting that’s the most vital component of the thrash metal mix, and Kreator have always written some fantastic tunes. Blazing aggression, stick-in-your-head melodies and catchy choruses abound, and on Gods of War everything sounds massive and perfectly realised. And the riffs? Well, this is quite the masterclass in infectious thrash riffs. Holy cow, this album completely shreds and slays in the guitar department! I love that Kreator have never lost their passionate, aggressive streak. No matter what else they do, this aspect of their music is always there in some capacity or other; sometimes less, frequently more. Kreator know how to destroy with their songs. Other musical influences other than pure thrash can be heard across the album, and these extra flourishes work well to enhance the metallic core of the music. The album frequently has classical or orchestral enhancements, (including bagpipes); these parts are not overbearing or too much, nor do they dilute from the metal. Kreator know what they’re doing and judge and deliver everything to perfection. Professional, polished and with songs that are hugely catchy and memorable, this album has the complete package. Chock full of bona fide metal anthems, Gods of Violence is a first-rate addition to Kreator’s catalogue of material.

Kreator has long been one of my favorite metal bands and they rarely disappoint. When they came back to thrash in the early 2000's, they did so with an injection of melody and each following album added more and more into the mix. Gods Of Violence is the next step for them, but they still havent let up on the brutality. The album is relentless with its crushing thrash onslaught that will make any metalhead bang their heads in approval. Album highlights include the opener World War Now, Totalitarian Terror, Lion With Eagle Wings and the grand closer in Death Is My Light.

Continuing the feel of their previous album ("Phantom Antichrist"), Kreator expands upon that with "Gods Of Violence". A solid metal release, offering up the doses of thrash Kreator is known for, along with improved songwriting that emphasizes diverse harmonies and melodies. Not necessarily directed at the commercial metal masses, but certainly appealing enough to entertain and win over more than just the underground or extreme crowd. A must have for any true metal fan.

Kreator don't really surprise listeners anymore, but that's ok since fans know what to expect. This latest slab of thrash onslaught contains 10 tracks (11 if you count the opener Apocalypticon) with just a bit more melody injected into the proceedings. As a bonus there's a DVD with a full performance from the Wacken festival in 2014. A must have.

After 30 years Kreator still are at the top of their game. This CD is flawless and powerful. Seeing them 30 years ago at City Gardens to next month at the Fillmore - they rock..

This album doesn't miss a beat. Kreator continues to put our quality music. This album has the feel of Enemy of God but even more evolved music composition wise, if that's even possible.
