Matthew Broderick plays an excellent part as a brilliant scientist which the military government ignores his intelligence and advice. One of the best Godzilla movies ever made with lots of action and destruction! Who does more destruction to New York, Godzilla or the military? And it leaves you with a cliffhanger. A five-star production with five star acting and all around awesome movie!

As a hardcore Godzilla fan, this is one item that I've been waiting for to come out in Steelbook and was not disappointed in what I received.

Godzilla is a monumental cinematic achievement that pays homage to the iconic monster while delivering a thrilling and visually stunning experience. The film masterfully balances the awe-inspiring scale of the creature with heartfelt human drama, creating a compelling narrative that keeps audiences engaged throughout. With its impeccable special effects, powerful soundtrack, and outstanding performances by the cast, Godzilla reigns supreme as a must-see blockbuster for fans of the legendary kaiju.

A different take on The King of Monsters

Ok..so this movie came out in 1998 and it had HUGE expectations due that this was America's first true take on telling the tale of Godzilla. I will say that Godzilla enthusiasts like myself felt that it came up a little short, but to say that this movie is bad is incorrect. It is an action packed roller coaster ride that has all of the things that a summer blockbuster of any time period needs. The intial arrival in NY city was amazing and although I have not watched my 4K transfer, I am so pumped to see what it is going to look like, I believe if you are an action movie junkie, monster movie fan, or even a Godzilla enthusiast then this movie is a must own for y our collection.

The picture is the best the film is going to look. I was torn buying it because I did t want ANOTHER copy with the big eye poster. When I saw the slip I thought I might get it instead because of the foot poster art used instead. Well i picked the steel anyway and I’m so thrilled to report the foot poster is on the rear and it has spot gloss. Really this is one of my favorite steelbooks. Couldn’t ask for better

My review is strictly in regards to 4K presentation. This is a demo 4K disc. When you have friends over and want to show them the PQ and AQ that 4K has to offer, this is what you pop in. I won't get into a review of the movie itself. I will say the current Godzilla and Godzilla King of the Monsters blows this away as a film. However, this is still a fun movie. This is a "popcorn movie" which means you don't need to analyze it. You just go with it and have fun.

With so many different versions of Godzillas out there and various movies, this version may not rank as the best but I always found it a guilty pleasure. The 4K version is the one to watch if you're in the same situation. Picture has the expected uplift to 4K but it's the audio and the Dolby Atmos soundtrack that really takes it to the next level. Much more enveloping and pulling you into the movie over other versions.

Sony brings the 1998 Godzilla to 4K Blu-ray, and it's awesome. Superb video quality, with a good amount of grain, along with a high quality Dolby ATMOS soundtrack - both of which should please fans of this movie.
Packaging also includes a digital copy and the previously released Blu-ray, which still holds up.
Worth adding to your movie collection, especially if you have a 4K TV and a good surround sound system.

The 4K transfer is solid. There is a lot of film grain - as to be expected = but the fidelity of the image is wonderful and true to the source material. The HDR and WCG really shine in many scenes. The Atmos track is reference quality, with prodigious bass and some very refined uses of the height channels - this may be the most realistic rain I've yet heard in Atmos! Overall, just a very fun movie!

Scientist Niko Tatopolous is called in to investigate the matter, and he quickly arrives at the conclusion that a giant, irradiated lizard has been created by the explosions. Godzilla® then makes its way north, landing in Manhattan to begin wreaking havoc in the big city.

This is a good (not great) giant reptile flick, but Godzilla should look more like a t-rex and less like an overgrown monitor lizard. I probably would have accepted it more if they had given it a different name. The disc picture/audio quality are quite good, which shows what a studio can achieve with an older film when they try.

I prefer this 1998 Godzilla film over the current movie productions of Godzilla. Godzilla is suppose to be super cheesy-that’s the way it’s meant to be! This version is just that! Fun! Totally 90’s! And enjoyable. The 4k is a beauty. I purchased this around Black Friday-so I gotta great deal. Recommend this for your collection

This blu ray exceeds the quality of the 4K mastered 1080p blu ray from a few years back. This is one of my favorite movies form growing up, and although it’s not a great movie, it’s entertaining and I enjoyed it. Also, I’m a fan of the Godzilla verse so I have no qualms about it. Add to your digital collection, it won’t hurt.

I know a lot of people didn’t like this movie because of the way Godzilla looks like an iguana. I’m a huge Godzilla fan myself & I had no issue with it I thought the story was fine & all the actors did a great job. I’m really glad they decided to rerelease this movie on 4K Blu-ray Steelbook a few weeks before the new Godzilla King Of Monsters hits theaters this month on the 31st

Ok. So It's not Citizen Kane but it's a lot of fun to watch. I bought it really for the special effects and to have a fun, nothing film to watch when it's a rainy day. So many things wrong with this film but don't try and look for logic, just enjoy. So many Godzilla films out there, I know, but Rolland Emmerick directs a fun version. I'm still not sure if it's supposed to be a comedy or what! Mathew Broderick is totally miscast as Nick Tatopolis ( and what is with that name??) Vickie Lewis is supposed to be his boss and she is hitting on him the second they meet??? Very smarmy. Doug Savant is acting in another movie. And why on earth is it always raining??? Just sit back and have fun...……...

Godzilla movies are always big on urban destruction, but generally do a poor job of explaining where he came from. This movie devoted a large part of the early development to explaining this (big worms!).
I also appreciated the humor woven into the story line, and “Ferris Beuler” was outstanding in that role!
