An unusual entry in the Godzilla series

This is best thought of as a stand alone movie. It really does not fit into any other Godzilla continuity. In this movie, a series of natural disasters heralds the reawakening of Godzilla after fifty years. The only thing that can stop Godzilla are three legendary guardians of Japan, namely Mothra, Baragon and King Ghidorah (Yes, King Ghidorah fights on the side of good this time!) The movie leads to an exciting battle with Godzilla on one side and the three guardians on the other that features a nice blend of CGI visuals and some well designed monster suits. The story is interesting enough, but not developed as much as in some of the movies to follow, such as 'Tokyo S.O.S' and 'Godzilla against Mecha-Godzilla', but it makes for entertaining viewing. The beautiful Chiharu Niiyama does a good job as ace reporter Yuri Tachibana. All in all, this is an entertaining, if unusual Godzilla movie.

Godzilla,Mothra, and King Ghidorah-Giant Monsters All Out Attack, it just rolls off your tongue. There's also a fourth monster- Baragon, but he's not too great. The plot goes like this: The origional Godzilla is ressurected by the souls of the dead from WW2. So yes- we are quite literally dealing with a "zombie" Godzilla. Japan's only hope are the three gaurdian monsters: Mothra- a giant butterfly, Baragon- a giant pink lizard, and King Ghidorah- a giant three headed dragon who- wait, WHAT!?! King Ghidorah is a GOOD guy in this movie? I don't care what his origin is: be it an alien, a mutation, or said "gaurdian", King Ghidorah is supposed to be a VILLIAN. Anyways I wasn't impressed by this entry of the Godzilla series, hardcore fans might get a kick out of it, but, it fails. And it plays out too much like a Sci-Fi origional movie.

I love this movie. This is a return to the darker side of the Godzilla franchise, and it is just AWESOME! With a limited budget, the director was able to pull off some pretty amazing moments never before seen in a Godzilla movie. Is it perfect? No. Is it close? Yes.
