The sequel to "Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla" (not to be confused with "Godzilla VS. MechaGodzilla"; these are entirely separate films), that places the metallic doppelganger in the hero role.
It's pretty standard kaiju (giant monster) fare, and you'll either be here for the overall story, or just to watch men in rubber suits duke it out over fake cities. And there's a decent amount of both, so no one should be disappointed.
All in all, if you're a fan of the big G himself, there's no harm in picking this up. Just sit back, grab some popcorn, and enjoy some kaiju chaos!

Figured that I already owned all of the Godzilla films or had seen them on the Sci-Fi channel in years past, but this one escaped under the radar! Managed to find a copy and I'm definitely glad that I did.
Tokyo S.O.S. is a follow-up to the previous Mechagodzilla film and acts as a direct sequel. Humanity seeks to repair Mecha-G in hopes to defend against Godzilla, but its construction is what is leading Godzilla back to Japan again. And to make matters worse, the fairy twins associated with Mothra have declared that Mothra will become humanity's enemy if they don't stop the construction and let it sleep in the ocean.
Godzilla, Mecha-G, and Mothra all in one film...gotta love it. Always love it when you get a good battle royale possibility. Music and visuals are great as always. The CG portions tended to blend very nicely and didn't stand out too much. Never even think about the "man in the suit" while watching. The music isn't quite as good as the original "King of Monsters" or "Godzilla 1985", but it's still pretty good. There's even a "making of..." special features attached on this DVD.
Only downside would have to be the English dubs/voice acting. It's not terrible, but it doesn't compare to the original Japanese. 5.1 Dolby audio makes this sweet on a sound system, though.
If you love Godzilla, buy it. Even if you don't; still buy it. A great addition to any collection.

Tokyo S.O.S begins with a warning from Mothra (a giant moth) to the people of Japan. 'Do not use Mecha-Godzilla!'. What follows is an exciting sci-fi action movie that leads up to a great battle in Tokyo involving Godzilla, Mothra and Mecha-Godzilla.
Tokyo S.O.S boast a fine array of visual effects and some well-designed monsters. The monsters and the Tokyo sets look realistic. Masaki Tezuka (who also directed 'Godzilla against Mecha-Godzilla') proves to be an excellent director. He ranks with Ishiro Honda (who directed the first Godzilla movie) as one of the best directors of the Godzilla movies.
The English dub is not up to the standard of the original Japanese dialogue, but the DVD has the Japanese dialogue.
I recommend this to any fan of sci-fi or Japanese movies. Godzilla truly is the King of the Monsters!
