James Bond prevents an attack on Fort Knox

GOLDFINGER is arguably the best Bond movie ever made. While the first two Bond movies (DR. NO and FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE) were hits, GOLDFINGER made the 007 franchise a worldwide phenomenon and established the blueprint for most of the future Bond movies. It also was Sean Connery's finest performance as James Bond and set the standard for his portrayal of Bond which no other actor has equaled. It was the first 007 movie to introduce high tech gadgets such as the Aston Martin DB5 ("the most famous car in the world") with its ejector seat, machine guns, bullet-proof rear shield, etc. and also introduced the first larger-than-life Bond villain in Auric Goldfinger and his henchman Oddjob. Q also became a prominent character in the Bond movies for the first time introducing the DB5 after a minor role in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. Another first was the major battle scene involving the attack on Fort Knox which led to future final battle scenes in THUNDERBALL, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, MOONRAKER and others. Lastly, John Barry's theme for GOLDFINGER (sung by Shirley Bassey) is perhaps the best Bond theme song recorded in the franchise's long history and a classic movie theme. The remastered Blu-ray video quality is extremely impressive, especially when taking into account GOLDFINGER was released in 1964. GOLDINGER set the gold standard for the Bond movies, so if you only could buy one Bond movie, this is the one.

HD Transfer the best for a great Bond film.

The movie has always been one of the best Bond films. It created a lot of attention by exploiting the myth that if a body was covered entirely by paint, that the skin would cause the body to suffocate and lead to death.. This was disproven. The imporatnt thing about this film is that it shows that the restoration process is getting better and better. The extras are identical to the ones that are simultaneously released on Standard DVD's but the DTS enhancement that is not as great on the SDs is far superior. The trailer for the film is not only fully restored, but it is presented for the first time I believe, in the 1.85:1 (16x9) ratio, not 4:3 as on previous releases and with grainy image. The overall image is great. I did not notice any grainy spots on the image and the 1080P looks awesome. I purchased it in the 3 volume set that also includes Moonraker, and World is Not Enough

    The all-time Bond classic

Goldfinger is THE Bond film. When we think of Bond as suave, clever, and as the top spy of the British government, this is the film that comes to mind: a fun but brilliant film that contains everything that the name Bond brings to mind nowadays. The story is this: Bond is assigned to use the pretense of a golf game for a bar of gold to look into an Austrian industrialist named Auriic Goldfinger (whom Bond has run into in the past) that the British are suspicious of. It turns out that Goldfinger is behind a plot to detonate a nuclear device inside Fort Knox in order to cause the value of his own gold supply to skyrocket. The film is great in part thanks to its believable plot, but what makes it so great even today is the quotes ("No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!") and the overall greatness of agent 007. This film epitomizes the reasons why we love Bond.

    Good as Gold

Considering he's one of the few villains to double as the film title, it's not a surprise to find he's one of the more memorable ones. Gert Forbe via the dubbing by actor Michael Collins delivers one of the classic hero/villain exchanges with Bond strapped to a table with a laser slowly inching closer and closer to splitting him in half; "You expect me to talk?", "No, Mr.Bond, I expect you to die!". The laser beam sequence is a standout scene that still plays out very suspenseful and tense. Die Another Day had a callback to the Goldfinger scene with multiple lasers and Halle Berry strapped down under interrogation that paled in comparison to the singular laser that threatened Sean Connery. No discourse on Goldfinger can be complete without talking about Sean Connery and his definitive portrayal of the super spy. His is still the standard by which all actors in the role are measured by. Connery was suave and witty when needed, but delivered the cold-blooded ruthlessness that made you believe he was licensed to kill. In Goldfinger, he's still enjoying the role and taking it seriously.

    Stunning HD transfer

The first blu-ray upgrade of the Bond movies that I bought. I must admit that I was sceptical given the films age and the care devoted to the transfer to many of the older films in the cataloges. I was pleasantly surprised. Goldfinger is the finest of the vintage James Bond restorations and a great example of what can be accomplished when older films are given the care and attention necessary to make the leap to high definition. Highly recommended!

    The best Bond movie ever!

Many regard this, the 3rd Bond film, as the best of the entire series and rightly so. Sir Sean is at his most suave as 007, and he's matched by great villains (Gert Frobe & Harold Sakata), a great Bond girl (Honor Blackman), & a great title tune (sung by Shirley Bassey). Unlike later Bond pics, this film has many great gadgets AND genuine suspense.

This has it all! Connery, Girl in Gold, Aston Martin, Oddjob, the gadgets! A story that is great, not dark and moody like Daniel Craig's. Lines like: 007- "Do you expect me to talk?" Goldfinger-"No Mr Bond, I expect you to die". Just perfect writing!

Sean Connery is my personal favorite of all the different actors who've played the role of 'James Bond.' 'Goldfinger' is Bond at its best, and any fan of the series wouldn't want to miss this one. Widescreen, with some decent bonus features, but die-hard fans will probably want to try and get the 2-disc special edition instead. Recommended!

This is my favorite Bond movie. From Russia with Love, Dr. No are both classics as well but this one gets the nod. I've always loved Bond...he reminds me of my husband...only not quite as cool...
