Great streamer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: 1. Relatively inexpensive ($35) compared to other options (Roku, Apple TV,...) 2. Easy to setup (takes only 5 min) 3. Can control using multiple devices (smartphone, PC, tablet) on multiple platforms (iOS, Android, Windows) 4. Can stream anything on the Chrome browser (duplicating what's on screen) 5. Can cue up multiple play items 6. Doesn't consume battery on the smartphone (initiate streaming and move on to do other things or even put the phone in suspension mode 7. 3rd party apps will continue to make this device more useful and will eventually allow streaming of anything on the PC or phone to the TV 8. Tiny footprint that can easily hide away in the back of TV (if the TV has a USB port, then the device can be powered by a USB cable without a power supply connected to the wall outlet) 9. Can connect it to an audio device/receiver and stream Spotify or Pandora continuously without turning on the TV- this is a very good feature! 10. No additional service fee or subscription fee other than services that you choose to pay for (such as Netflix or Google Play) Cons: 1. Doesn't support any local storage media directly (you can connect the storage media to your PC/laptop or smartphone and stream from there if necessary, though) 2. No remote controller (you can use your PC/smartphone as a remote, though) 3. ... can't think of any more cons!

Limited but has a lot of potential
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I saw the price tag on the Chromecast I had to get one right away. It is great for using netflix and it's being the size of a flash drive minus the power cord, makes it easy to bring with you anywhere you need. It was very easy to set up and netflix streams very smoothly with a decent internet connection. The overall functionality is rather limited compared to all the apps/channels on Apple TV and Roku, but over time I'm sure we'll be able to see what Chromecast can really do.

Excellent streaming device.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own a number of streaming media devices, and the Chromecast is definitely the winner in terms of Price:Performance ratio. It's cheap. Nothing more to say really, it's cheaper than devices it competes again. It's high quality. The device is simple, but you can tell it's sturdy and well made. It does just about everything. A huge number of apps work with Chromecast, and it is my absolute go to device for streaming from Netflix, Hulu, Youtube and HBOgo. Unfortunately Amazon doesn't enable streaming from Amazon Instant Video to the Chromecast, as they sell a competing device (which I also own.) The only reason to opt for a different streaming stick is if your primary service is Amazon Instant Video - if that's the case, you want the Amazon FireTV stick. Anyone else? Buy a Chromecast, end of discussion.

CHROMECAST IS ALL YOU NEED!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this thing. I got my first one as a Christmas gift a little over a year ago. It turned my dumbTV into a smartTV and so much more. I quit paying for cable years ago and used to use my PS3 for Netflix and Amazon, it wasn't the best UI and was frustrating if the PSN went down. The chromecast solidified my anti-cable view. I can stream from my browser. Cast my phone screen, stream music, movies, you name it and its streamable. I loved it so much i bought another one for my other dumbTV in the bedroom. I highly recommend cutting the cable bill and moving to this. There are so many free news apps and netflix that you don't even miss it. (I AM NOT RECOMMENDING D/LING ILLEGAL TORRENTS).... but if you do... then save yourself 100+ bucks a month and pick up a Chromecast. I haven't looked back.

Great for watching movies on yourHDTV
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SETUP: very easy. Simply plug into an HDMI port in your TV and plug in the power, which can go into an outlet or an available USB slot if your TV has one (mine does). You download a program on your computer or an app on your phone, setup is very straightforward and not difficult at all, even for a non-tech savvy person. PERFORMANCE: great with few hiccups. One problem I had was that the strength was very weak when using it on my TV downstairs when my router was upstairs. I was not using the HDMI extension cord at this time (which comes with the product). I was thinking that the HDTV was acting as a giant reflector and blocking my router's signal. So I attached the extension, and it works better now, much better! Product is silent and makes no noise. It does get a bit warm when you feel it though after watching a movie. When streaming Netflix, there are times when it has to pause and load again. When watching Netflix through my Xbox, it did not do that, only on the chromecast. I am so happy with this product, I bought 2 more (for upstairs, downstairs, and my room for 3 total). They never interfere with each other. APPS: only downfall, which will probably improve, is the lack of apps able to utilize chromecast. I use Netflix for my streaming, and I also use Avia to stream videos from my phone. Avia is a free, very basic media player app for phones. However, you pay $2.99 and it allows you to connect to your chromecast. This works fairly well to stream videos from my phone. However, it does not recognize certain videos with certain decoding methods. Attempting to cast it results in chromecast displaying something like, "this file is incompatible". However, it plays fine on the phone, it's only when you cast it to your TV. Fix that, and It'll be 5 stars all around.

I'm amazed at how well this system works!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A new favorite thing I love to do is to stream music videos to my Google Chromecast. For those of you wondering what a Chromecast is, let's call it a HDMI thumb drive. It plugs into an open HDMI port on your HD TV and then it also requires a power connection that can usually be plugged straight in to the TV's USB port or the small power supply that comes with the device. Once it is connected and setup you simply stream content, videos and music from a device, to your TV. Currently the apps that are supported consist of Netflix, YouTube, HBOGo, HuluPLUS, Pandora, and GooglePlay Movies. You can also mirror stream right from Google Chrome from any PC, which means what you see on your PC's display in one tab of chrome.. It is also cross platform, Apple and Android devices are able to stream. Keep in mind that to use this device with Netflix, HBOGo, and HuluPLUS you have to be a subscriber to each service. With GooglePlay Movies, you just have to purchase the videos or watch ones that are free. I am absolutely amazed at how well this system works. There is talk among the tech communities that there will be more apps available in the future. I can't wait to see what is next for this little device. The price of my first Chromecast was $35.00, which is it's typical price. I recently picked up two more at Best Buy while they were on sale and I had a reward certificate to use as well, so I payed $26.00 for each them. This would make a great stocking stuffer for those tech enthusiasts in your family. Keep an eye open as the Holidays are approaching, they will probably go on sale.

Great for so much
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Chromecast soon after it was released and it worked fine but didn't have very many apps and products that were supported. Now there are tons to choose from and so many applications in which to use it. I stream plex sometimes and also share my chrome browser. Every app that I have used with it has worked flawlessly and Google sends updates for the device itself all the time. Great product!

Turn your TV into a(n even better) Smart TV!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the google chromecast! It's tiny but packs a big punch. Allows me to watch YouTube, Netflix (subscription required), Hulu (subscription required), Viki, as well as watch media I have stored on my computer on the local network using Plex Media Server. It also has other services, such as HBO GO, Pandora, Google Music, Vevo, and more, but I don't use these quite as much. You can also cast your chrome browser tab from your computer to your TV! Set up is super simple. Very straight forward and takes about 5 min, then it'll probably run an update on itself which will take another couple of minutes. Then install the Chromecast app on your phone or tablet. You control the whole thing via the respective apps on your smartphone or tablet, or through the chrome browser on your computer. Works flawlessly! video quality is great. Sound is as good as any. I literally use mine everyday! only tiny gripe is that you have to either plug it in for power either via the USB port on your TV (if you have one) or plug it in to the wall with the supplied ac adapter, but this is understandable since there is no power run through HDMI. Oh one cool thing is it comes with an extender so that if your TV is wall mounted and you can't have the chromecast sticking straight out the back, you can use the extender to bend it down for a lower profile. They really thought of everything. I would HIGHLY recommend this device. Even if you already have a smart TV, this would be a great addition. Controlling it via your smartphone or tablet is great, and so much easier than trying to type on your TV to search for videos.

Great for making an older monitor/tv smarter.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most TVs these days are smart but if you're like me you have one or two older ones which are perfectly good for casual use but you'd like to get more from them. Usually you'll just get a smart-bluray player or a gaming console to add that functionality but a cheaper alternative is this chromecast. I setup my older 40" in my gym downstairs and use it in conjunction with a Plex server to stream media from my PC upstairs which was easy to setup. You can also use a streaming service like netflix or hulu, throw some pictures on the set or even use the tv's built in speakers to blast music. The chromecast does many things and it bridges a gap for legacy devices.

Streamlines Productivity
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is by far, the most simple piece of technology that I use, yet it is the highest used device in my home. Not only do I use it to expand my laptop/phone/tablets, I can stream music to my TV and have it play over my surround sound system. The only reason I won't give it 5 stars is the fact that it drops the quality and signal. Sure, it is possible that my data connection through my wifi could be the culprit, but I highly doubt a dual band router working with 60 down and 30 up could really be affecting it that badly. It's possible that the amount of data being streamed is affected it. But nonetheless, very very very satisfied with this product!!

Loved it so much I bought 2
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second google chromecast. My family "cut the cable" years ago so streaming content is our go to entertainment option. The Chromecast is great for the standard streaming services like Netflix, etc and makes streaming Youtube and other online media a snap. It has also brought streaming audio to our older but still awesome Panasonic receiver. Chromecast was also the only device with a Yahoo Screen App so we can now lie in bed at night and watch our episodes of "Other Space" and "Community". The Chromecast could use more apps (no Amazon Prime app) but you just have to love these little technical wonders for the things they do well.

Worth more than I paid :-)
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I waited to so long to buy this little doo-hickey, and no idea why I did! For $35 I got my money's worth the first night. It is very easy to set up, and I have used it every day. I use it mostly to stream Netflix to my big screen t.v. from my phone, as well as YouTube. You can stream, I think, mostly anything you play from your devices (phone, tablet, etc) but I believe it is tailored specifically to work with Netflix, YouTube, and some others. My son has one also and he has some trouble streaming NCAA games on that app - but like I said, for $35 you really cannot go wrong!!! I LOVE IT!

Great for those who love YouTube
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: This is GREAT for watching YouTube videos on your TV. It's really easy to use and the responsiveness of the device is incredible. You can set up queues for videos you want to watch or play one over another. I really love how the video will automatically play at the highest resolution available so there's no need to manually adjust it on the video. And this is great for you Chrome users as the Chromecast addon is a quick install and VERY easy to use. It's also great for those of you who have a Netflix and/or Hulu Plus account! This device almost functions as a cordless HDMI cable for videos but is BETTER in so many ways. The Chromecast interface is user friendly and nice to look at when it's not being used. Sometimes I like leaving the TV on to let it display all the beautiful standby background photos it has. Cons: It's very MISLEADING how in photos they show the Chromecast device by itself when it actually has another cord meant to be attached to its back end in order to reach a power source (Chromecast goes in the HDMI port and the other cord goes into the USB2 port). It would be so much more convenient for me as a solo plug in device since my HMDI and USB2 ports are side by side (this leaves a bundle of wrapped cords just sticking out like an eyesore). I'm not a Chrome user so it's a bit of hassle having to switch between it and Firefox since there is no Chromecast addon for any other browser. I also don't have Netflix or Hulu Plus accounts so it's only limited to YouTube. This isn't a huge problem but there are a lot of free Hulu movies I'd love to watch through my TV.

Worth every dime.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product has ease of use and just using your phone or tablet to send video or music to the TV is awesome for any person in the house to use. Setup is done with an app you download after you plugged in the dongle to the TV, and just a few steps in the app you are done. The power plug can be either plugged into the USB port on the TV or into an outlet with the provided adapter, and if you have the power going to an outlet you can turn on your TV if you send video to play if the TV was off. The applications available are plentiful but not all video services are offered yet amazon instant video comes to mind and HBO Go, but it has really all the other basic services. I highly recommend this device for people that don't have a smart HDTV.

Excellent device for streaming and connecting.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great device that seems very powerful for the size. You do have to figure out how to connect initially but after that it was very easy to use. I was able to connect to HBOGO from my computer, iphone, or droid. Can stream from Netflix and a number of other services. When it is not connected the TV screen shows pleasing background images and the time. A lot more than I expected including the surprising price. Good buy, good price, quality device. Well worth the price. Great value.

Great Tool for Streaming
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using my Chromecast for about a year and I loved it so much, I bought one for my mother for Christmas. The Chromecast is great because I can stream video/pictures from many apps through my phone/tablet as well as being able to stream anything that will play in a Chrome window on my laptop. It's quick & easy to set up & very easy to use. Google has also added support for several Games to play through the Chromecast & though I haven't tried this out yet - the possibilities for this are wonderful. I would recommend this for anyone looking to stream mainstream apps (like Netflix or Ultraviolet movies). With a little setup & know-how, you can stream anything via Chrome on a desktop/laptop.

powerful streaming device with easy installation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.the chromecast fits extremely well for my need to watch various media (photos/videos/music on my phone/ipad or from internet). There are so many apps on the mobile devices and tablets that can use chromecast to stream contents to TV. I mostly use WatchEspn and youtube to find videos that I am interested, and Pandora to stream music (my chromecast is plugged into my home stereo). the installation is pretty easy. It's plugged into the stereo. It's always ON. even when my TV is off, when I stream to chromecast, my TV will be ON and tuned chromcast. it's rpetty easy and useful. Bestbuy also has sale on chromecast from time to time. I have 3 chromcast for each of the TVs at home.
