The goggles themselves are nice, and the remote works well with them. This type of VR is still limited by the screen resolution of the phones though. (The pixel grid is clearly visible, and I have a 1440 x 2560, 535 ppi amoled display.) The phone also gets plenty hot, and battery life is not so great in VR mode. Overall, it is a fun, but probably something that needs another couple of years before it is really a top notch experience. Still, very happy with the purchase.

Priced really well this handset is a better build than the predecessor which was more of a cardboard. Instead of a hard plastic frame and some complicated snap-in phone holster, the headset feels far more organic, like it's crafted from a comfy pair of sweatpants. It's covered in soft fabric, with ample padding around the eye area. And when slapping your phone into the viewer, the handset's held in place with little more than some springs and an elastic band

Good holster, fits my phone well. Only slight issue I had was that it doesn't quite fit my head the way I'd like it to. Slightly loose/open around the bottom and lets in a bit of light. Nothing too distracting, but keeps it from being a perfect product. According to what I saw online, this is so it fits people with glasses too. Whatever, overall I'm definitely happy to be able to play all the VR games and apps!

Tried iPhone and Androids and works great. Please note, the iPhone Plus models will not fit well as their buttons always touch the headset causing the viewing experience to not be ideal.

Lightweight and very comfortable. I use it with a Galaxy S8 and it works with a light case on. Google's catalog is growing and they seem committed to the platform. Great purchase.

Great VR Experience for the Money

If you happen to own a Daydream compatible smartphone, the VR headset is a really great first step into VR. I never sensed any slowdown in head tracking or in the remote. As a product itself, it is impressive. But the product is really nothing more than the apps it supports, and unfortunately the available apps are pretty limited. The Google maps app and Youtube vr videos show how this could truly be an essential piece of tech in the future. However, the game selection wasn't great. (I found one game I bought particularly frustrating, an "archery" game that utilized head tracking to aim instead of the controller.) On the smaller Pixel, the individual pixels are very noticeable. I've heard this is better with the XL, but I was unable to test that. The "VR" apps from Netflix and HBO are nothing more than virtual movie theatre viewing experiences which display at an effective size that equates to a very large screen. However, the quality of the movies is severely degraded by the size of the pixels. It might be useful on a plane, but it's not going to be a substitute for anyone's regular movie/TV viewing. Obviously it's worth noting that most of the apps are very processor heavy and burn through battery life (and may also literally burn as the phone gets very, very hot). The price point at $49 is really pretty low considering the tech it features (NFC, Bluetooth), but whether you actually get $49 worth of use is questionable.

While this piece of hardware is beautifully elegant and well constructed it works with only a limited number of handsets, be sure to verify on Google's Daydream View page before purchasing. That being said it is not without its issues, mostly thermal related due to its materials not conducting heat very well. Check online about DIY foil heatsinks that can significantly increase heavy game time.

This gaming system is lightweight and offers a great VR expierance. There is a little light that comes through on the sides but it is still emersive and offers lots of VR games.

Definitely feels life like using it. Easy to download apps and play. High quality software although the hardware isn't set as high. Would perfer remote with headset and getting the back on to it has been a hassle. I would recommend to anyone wanting to experience V.R. as it is outstanding for this component!

Runs better than expected on my Axon 7. Games are fun, but Google Street view in VR was one of my favorite things to try. You can watch Netflix in VR, but resolution is just too low compared to watching on a tv. The remote works decently well, and the Daydream VR is a good way to experience VR for a much lower price than sets like the Oculus or Vive.

The daydream view is like Google Cardboard on steroids. It's a fun distraction if you have a supported phone, but there's no killer app or game that makes it a must-buy. Hopefully that will come out soon, but if you're interested in getting your feet wet in VR without spending too much, this is a good way to go.

This offers a lot of VR fun time for the price. Very cost effective way to try it out before jumping into something like the Oculus Rift. The remote device is nice for controlling your experience while you are in VR. Easy to setup. I think it will only get better as more and more people try out VR software.

The design is really good and comfortable. It does make your Pixel phone burn up after a few minutes. They should've added some sort of heat sink. What works for me is putting a piece of foil on the back of the phone before inserting to help with heat dissipation. Otherwise it turns off after 15 minutes.

    Good Entry Point with Caveats

The Daydream View is a decent entry point for VR if you already have a compatible phone. The hardware uses soft cloth-covered materials compared to the hard plastics of the GearVR. This headset and included remote control only tracks rotation and acceleration, so it will not translate positional movement like PC-based headsets such as the Vive and Oculus CV1. The controller has a clickable touchpad along with menu buttons. It would have been nice to have a trigger similar to the GearVR. In terms of software, the main hub is well realized. The support for google apps such as youtube is nice. Games are a mixed bag, but there are certainly some gems like "Along Together" that showcase what can be done with the hardware. Overall, the Daydream View is a nice first step for Google and is a great entry point to VR until the wave of self-contained headsets with positional tracking come to the market.

I bought this to pair with my Axon 7 now that it has Nougat. I'm very pleased. It's not perfect, but no VR that's out right now is. It works great and it's fun to use. I just hope they come out with more apps.

Purchased as a gift for my boyfriend, this portable VR headset has already been very valuable to him in the classroom and and school events. He's an art teacher, so he uses the art-related-apps to have students look at museums they may never visit, or to step into paintings. Although his students rather play games on it, it's a pretty interesting educational tool, and the portability is fantastic for school recruitment events. (Plus the VR is a great way to get the kids interested.) We also have the Playstation VR, which has a lot more games available, but when it comes to easy of portability and educational use, I think this is a pretty awesome little headset. (Plus the washable cover is amazing. People sweat in these things and get them so gross that washing it is a fantastic feature, and I also recommend getting a pack of screen-wipes.)
