After reading all the terrible reviews I felt like I should leave some constructive feedback for those on the fence. I have now had the two pack for two weeks. I have used the nest doorbell cam for a few years and also have a nest thermostat. I do love using the nest app but I don't mind transitioning to the google home app either. Change is hard but it's bound to happen in technology. Luckily I also have many google home speakers and google's mesh wifi so I am somewhat familiar with the app.
I have had these cameras set up as both battery and now I have them set up hardwired. I made this change due to the lack of notifications at night. I would walk out in my drive way during the day and it would have no issue picking me up. I walked out at night and I would have to get right in front of it for it to kick on and record it as an event. I decided to up my current nest subscription to the plus version and these cameras work great with being on 24/7. If you are serious about security, having the plus subscription is a necessity.

Decent entry for Wireless Nest Cams

People are throwing a fit over having to use two apps when all you have to do is hit "Cameras" in the Google Home app to see all of your cameras. The only reason I could see throwing a fit over the Nest app is if you were using it on a browser. Work around? Use Bluestacks and add your google account on there. Problem solved. I also own a Nest Doorbell and Temperature Sensors around the house. Switching takes like two seconds.
Complaining about the battery life? It automatically estimates a time frame to where your battery will die. Mine has been sitting at 1 week for days now even though I initially thought they were losing charge incredibly quick. To be fair though, I do wish the battery life was improved.
Setup was a breeze, drilled two screws, added to google app and they were ready to go.
Events are 50/50, sometimes they will detect the end of vehicles moving on the zone I have but it'll detect people a mile away.
If you want to use your Nest Aware subscription you will have to buy an additional cable to plug these into an outlet.
The microphone on these cameras are actually INSANE. It can pick up audio EXTREMELY well.
Video quality is pretty meh... but having them wireless makes up for that.
Familiar faces still work relatively well.
But overall, I'd give these a 3. While I had no issues with the camera themselves, you might tilt because you cant use the Nest app. Events could also use some improvements, but that could be a simple update to fix. Battery life is okay, but also could use some improvement. I'm just glad Nest finally came out with a wireless solution.
Definitely a good entry point, but you'll have to decide on how important some features are to you.

Hey Andrew, we appreciate your review on the Nest Cam (Battery). We understand using one application for all of your Nest devices would be more convenient.
Our goal is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Cams. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place.
For the video quality, adjusting it in settings might be helpful to balance high resolution video with longer battery life and lower bandwidth use. For optimal video quality at 1080p, an internet connection upload speed with at least 2 Mbps per camera is recommended (DSL may not qualify). Please check the steps below: - Open the Home app Google Home app. - Select your camera. - Tap Settings Video. - Under “Video quality,” tap High.

I generally like my NEST cameras. These are kind of a toss up as any battery powered cameras would be. There are settings use use to make it more sensitive to motion and sound, that affect battery life. Also the temperature can affect the battery life. I do like the video quality I get from them. They can be set up wired for power, but that will limit where they can be placed.

Hi OutlanderNC, we're glad you liked your Nest Cam (Battery). It's also great to hear that you were able to figure out the settings for the motion, sound detection and video quality.
Battery life for Nest Cam (Battery) will depend on factors including activity, temperature, and camera settings that you select. Users can extend the battery life of their camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Here are some typical scenarios: Busy: About 1 month battery life (About 25 - 30 recorded events per day) Typical: About 2.5 months battery life (About 13 - 16 recorded events per day) Quiet: About 6 months battery life (about 2 - 5 recorded events per day)

This is a must have. I love this device. Very easy to install took me only five minutes wireless easy to charge. The cameras are even magnetized if you want to stick them to metal surface no need to install, but the most important thing is the camera in the kitchen the kids are no longer up late at night sneaking snacks. :) lol

I have had many cameras and camera systems over the years, but I keep coming back to Nest. (No pun intended.) These cameras are bulletproof, and they just work. The Nest Aware video cloud backup is the best, allowing you to go back seamlessly to search and find video footage that you may need. Many of the other camera backups out there only take a 30-second to 1-minute backup. When things are happening, the cameras need to be recording. Period!

These camera were very easy to install and to view online in my Home app. I set up access on two phones without a problem. Our HOA, which is particular about the appearance, gave us approval within 24 hours. They are under the eaves and out of the weather, and the picture is great night and day. Now we feel more secure having this view of our yard 24/7.

The cameras are great if you get a working set. I bought the 2 pack and 1 failed to work after a day and a half of running. I went back to store to exchange the nonworking camera and was told they couldn't trouble shoot the camera and would just replace it but i needed both camera. So had to go home and remove and uninstall the other camera and get a completely new 2 pack of cameras. So far they are both working just fine.

The battery doesn't last long. I ended up purchasing 2 wires for the camera, which defeted the whole purpose of it being battery operated. At night it shows black and white instead of in color like my first nest cameras. Also, the cameras only show and work on the google home app instead of the nest app. Instead of clicking on the google home app and automatically seeing the footage, you have to click on the app, then click the "camera" icon to see the footage. The camera is on "idle" mode (if its running on battery), so then you also have to click on "live" mode to see the live footage. Customer service says that once I plug the cameras in, it will show the live footage automatically.

Hi Amanda, thanks for trying out the Nest Cam (Battery). We do apologize for any disappointment you may be having with some of the features including the battery life, night vision and the Google Home app.
We wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place where you can control all your favorite Nest devices and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. Here are some benefits you can get by using the Google Home app with your Nest Cam (Battery): - Automatic security protections such as Suspicious activity detection, 2-Step Verification and Security Checkup. - Your Google Nest devices and services will work together. For example, if you have a Nest Cam and a Nest Hub, just say, """"Hey Google, show me the backyard camera” to cast your camera stream to your display without any additional setup. - One account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps. - Your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.
Also, the information you got from our support team is correct. Nest Cam (battery) can accommodate up to 10 days of continuous video recording (CVR) and 24/7 video history if hardwired to power and subscribed to Nest Aware Plus ($12 a month for all of your cameras, speakers, and displays on the same home structure).
We'll make sure to pass along the details of your feedback to our product team and see how we can improve our products and services further. For any other support needs you may be having, please do not hesitate to contact our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Where to start…
1. Camera can only be viewed in the Google home app. Very inconvenient if you are already a Nest user.
2. Camera is not capable of constantly streaming video. What this means is, when you pull up your cameras you only see a black screen with the word Idle on the top left and a button for live feed. Sure, you’d expect this to be the case for a battery operated device to conserve charge. But, what if it’s constantly plugged in? This leads to my third point.
3. I bought the weatherproof cable to have the camera plugged in and not worry about battery life. Here’s the catch, while the device is mounted to the magnetic mount, it will not charge. Furthermore, if you find a nifty way to hold the camera in place without the mount, you won’t be able to see the video until you place the device back on the magnetic mount AND unplug the power. WHY WOULD YOU EVEN OFFER A CABLE OPTION THEN?
The camera itself is easy to configure, like any previous Nest device. But unfortunately the functionality is not there.
Google should just rehire the original Nest team so they can produce great products.

Hi there bengtglave, thanks for choosing Nest Cam (Battery) and sharing some insights. We´re sorry to hear about your disappointing experience with the Google Home app.
The new Nest Cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Google Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with other Google Nest speakers and displays. We wanted to make the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices with the Google Assistant. If you already have some Nest cameras installed in your home, you may transfer them to the Google Home app. Check out this help article for more information: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532

We'd like to learn more about the charging issue with your weatherproof cable when the camera is mounted to the magnetic plate, and understand the reason why it isn't charging. Please reach out to our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

After over a year with Apple HomeKit cameras that were constantly offline and not working, these Google Nest cams are exceeding all expectations. The thread and matter connectivity keep these always connected and I even replaced my doorbell to the Google nest doorbell after two weeks with these cameras. Easy to mount. Picture is clear, recordings are excellent and notifications are accurate with Face recognition, package recognition, etc. Highly recommend!!!

I bought the 2 cameras as open box in excellent condition. I may be biased but this is the best camera out there. I got the wired so I could have 24/7 recording (w/ nest plus for a cost but so worth it) granted going to google home is little more cumbersome that the best app but overall I will recommend this to anyone looking for cameras to monitor their property.

Hi there, EricC. We’re glad that you love the recording feature of the Nest Cam (battery). We hear your concern about the battery charging behavior during cold weather. At temperatures between -4°F (-20°C) and 32°F (0°C), the battery can still power your device, but it won’t charge. It may also drain more quickly than usual. At temperatures close to -4°F (-20°C), your battery may have less than half the life that it has in warm weather. The camera will continue to work, but the battery will drain because it can’t be charged. You need to bring it inside to a warm place, preferably at room temperature so the battery can start to charge slowly once its temperature rises past 32°F (0°C). It will charge faster when it warms up.

I was hesitant with having to use 2 different apps to access my Nest thermostat and door bell after reading a few older reviews. To my surprised when this was installed today, they're all there!
I do like the Nest app a little better since I can open the app and it shows my front door but Google Home is functional with all of the products I am using.
Geek Squad did the install and Jake was great. I did learn that they can't install through walls so I had to change where the cameras would be mounted. I'll be installing another one of these after I boost signal strength towards the back of the house.

Unlike reviews i see here, i have no problem with this camera.
- After 3 days batteries only went down 2%.
- I was already using Google home, adding the camera was no problem.
- Only 1 cable for 2 camera. That's true, but since i am not charging the camera very often i can do 1 camera at a time without problem
- No problem with video quality, i can clearly see what's happening in my house.
So so far very happy with purchase, next is Nest doorbell.

Hello BostonVaughn, thanks for leaving feedback on the Nest Cam (battery). We hear you, and we understand that having to charge the camera more often than you should could be an inconvenience.
