Hi MikeC, we appreciate your feedback. We´re sorry to hear about the inconvenience with having to get a private installation for your Nest Learning Thermostat.

We don't normally recommend getting a technician to install the Nest Learning Thermostat. However, there are cases where you may need to have an extra wire installed like a common (C) wire that requires a technician. This happens when the wires from your heating and cooling system aren't delivering enough power to your Nest Learning Thermostat. The common wire will help solve by providing a dedicated power.

Another instance that would require us to refer a technician, would be when your old thermostat isn't working with your heating and cooling system. Either the old thermostat is broken, or that your system may need some maintenance check before the Nest Learning Thermostat can be installed.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you still experience some issue with your Nest Learning Thermostat even after having a private installer check and set it up for you. You´re more than welcome to contact us once more here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

This is my second Nest thermostat. It does not work as well as the first one. It behaves erratically as far as the próx sensor is concerned forcing me to touch it. The learning portion is also not really reliable and so far the notion that you don’t have to lift a finger is false advertisement.

Much trouble to operate and troubleshoot, and, getting a replacement battery seems to be problematic. This thermostat lasted less than two years, before its internally-rechargeable battery became so weak that the device could no longer connect to WiFi. NOT recommended. I did just buy a second one, but only because we are experiencing this Christmas week 2022 arctic blast, making it necessary to act quickly.

Alexa integration is rudimentary at best Letting it “learn” does not work well at all. It “learns setpoints never used and then adjusts temperature with idiotic settings. No savings recognized

Connects to your WiFi and then lets you control the temperature from the app or through your Alexa devices. Has a nice eco mode and tracks when you’re not in the house so the AC or heat doesn’t turn on while you are away.

We bought this so excited to use it - newer house and boiler. We put it up - and we swear to GOD it was insanely inconsistent with doing it's only job - keeping the house warm! Read up on it - it saps power from your boiler - and really needs a dedicated power line to run. If you don't have that - don't buy it!

While Nest products have been great for me thus far this item would not work in my home making it a poor purchase. Even after contacting Nest and them giving me another one it continued to drain the battery and not work with my WiFi. Even tried new service and router.

    Good - Battery Annoying

    Posted .

As a learning thermostat, the Nest is a great option. It does learn and help you with a variety of schedules. Being able to remotely control the settings help when you forget to reduce your bill when you go on vacation! However, the battery is a PAIN. If you have a C wire, you're fine. If you do not, you likely will not get enough power to your Nest from time to time. GOOGLE - PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL TECH ADD A BATTERY LIFE INDICATOR EVEN WHEN ONLINE. USB charging is an option, but it will not run your heating/cooling while charging unless you have a really interesting setup to force it to. Going to look into the new C Wire "adapter" to see if that helps. NOTE FOR NORTHERNERS - you will have to remove your AC wire for Nest to work below 0 as AC units typically disable themselves at these crazy temps.

Hi Beebs, thanks for posting your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you’re having battery issues with your Nest Learning Thermostat.

If you repeatedly get low battery messages from your thermostat, or if there’s another power-related message, you may need to check the C wire connection or install a C wire to provide consistent power to your thermostat and prevent the backup batteries from draining. Some systems, including heating-only, cooling-only, zone-controlled, and heat pump systems, require a C wire or the Nest Power Connector.
